I do not know why the critics dumped all over this game. It is super nostalgic, extremely fun and very well made! I never could understand why the newer critics (ones who grew up solely on ps2 or later consoles) have such issues with 2D games and platformers like side scrolling games and the like. If the game is not absolutely perfect (like cuphead or hollow knight) then they seem to always find some kind of problem with the game. This game took me back to not only the Nintendo Contra game but the arcade version, the snes version and the newer game that came out for the PS2. They did a good job in my opinion and I am a huge fan of this game.

I wish they re -added black viper from contra 4 as a miniboss inside of gava. Ya know as a miniboss and yes you might say that's disgusting but Contra has alot of disgusting things in it that totally don't make my skin crawl
The final boss is actually supposed to be a souped up Java, the giant xenomorph head you'd fight in the original Contra. Wayforward decided to give him the Black Viper treatment and give him a full ass body.

@MegaYoYo Oh. Sorry if I never responded to this, but I was so busy, and I needed time to think this through. The story is a complete mess and is derivative from the original source material to the point that it doesn't feel the same as the original. I'm also not a huge fan of the visuals tbh. They make the whole game come across as cheap-looking and plasticky. The new story that they invited for this game not only comes across as an absolute mess, but it also feels like a complete betrayal to the original storyline established since the first game. Shattered Soldier, Contra 4, or even Neo Contra feel like they provide enough closure for this series since the original storyline is pretty much done, at least in the case of the PS2 games. There's no need to keep rebooting the games over and over again. Either way, Contra should have stayed dead a long time ago since its story is already completed and that there's no need to keep dragging this IP to the ground and milking it dry. Especially when it comes to the more recent crap that we got after Uprising.

Castlevania music pack as well as other music packs (Contra 4 music pack) in Contra OG is one of the many Perks unlockable for use in Arcade/Challenge Mode.
Very well played but with upgraded C and switching weapons it looks some kind of easy? They should fix that switching weapons glitch and remove upgrading weapons in harder difficulties to make it challenging.
Every single Contra game has had an upgrade weapon system since inception, how about you play however you want to play and leave the rest of us alone with your masturbatory obsession with difficulty.
gameplay looks great but personally i dont like this stages theme, i do much prefer hard corps style stage theme, the city in chaos, industrial factories and that style they were much more atmospheric specially pointing out dark scifi, galuga stage design is kinda too colorful/positive for me. hopefully in future versions we see some hard corps style stages

@@MegaYoYo mmm, a replayable arcadey Contra experience that is… at least three hours long and has some unlockables that include characters, concept art, etc. Ideally - a roguelike/Endless mode that throws random terrain/weapons/enemies my way that should be completed in one-go. But I know that’s too much to ask for in the base game release.

Any character can do the weapon switch technique. It's easier to do it here than previous games. Just hold fire and tap the switch weapon button
I was surprised that Wayforward brought back the pick-up aame weapon twice to make it even strong from the arcade game.
