Contra: Operation Galuga - Arcade Hard - No Death Clear (Bill Rizer / No Perks)

- Following my previous Operation Galuga video with another Arcade Hard clear with Bill this time, who's essentially the default Contra character. His weapon set is a bit different from Browny's; most notably, he doesn't have the super powerful homing lasers that take care of almost everything before it poses any threat (though his missiles aren't bad). And that's a good thing, because it means you have to learn the levels more thoroughly and play more carefully, which makes the game more fun to play. He still has some strong weapons though. The classic spread shot that everyone knows and loves is great as an all-around weapon, so I stick with it for the entire game. There are points where I think it would be better to switch it out for the homing missiles, but I didn't want to really test it all out. This works perfectly fine. And the crush gun is the perfect secondary weapon, as it not only deals massive damage at close range, but once it's powered up, it shoots black holes that absorb enemy bullets as well. It's incredibly useful.
For me, the three main difficulty spikes are the stage 6 midboss, and both bosses on stage 8. For the stage 6 midboss, the Gradius dragon he summons can be hard to dodge if he does it in the middle of the screen, or something. He usually goes all the way to one side though, and just going to thee opposite end and moving along the wall works pretty well to dodge it.
The first stage 8 boss is still the hardest part of the game imo. The electric balls he summons can really limit your evasion options, and you have to be careful to not hit him when he starts parrying. The parry seems to come in intervals - I've never seen him use it multiple times in a row, and he usually takes some time to go for it, so you should be free to unload on him in between the parries. His shurikens can also be dangerous, but you should always be able to dodge them with a dash and jump if you're positioned right. I try to keep a lot of space behind me at all times, so whenever he jumps at me, I try to switch sides. That didn't work out for me here, because a big electric ball was blocking the safe spot...
Then there's the last boss. His last phase can be very dangerous. I didn't destroy his second eye here until he used an attack that gave me enough time to switch hands. That might not be necessary, you might just able to shoot his other eye out without having to move from whichever hand you start on, but I haven't tried that to be honest. I think it'd take a while with the spread shot, anyway. But after that, just keep that block hole on his third eye to block the bullet spam, and be sure to move back to the safe(?) area (back towards his thumb) when he starts his regular attacks. Getting smacked from behind by a worm really sucks.
Next, I'll try out the other characters and figure out if I want to do more Arcade Hard runs with them, or just play Extreme and Extreme Ultra. I'll probably just use Browny for those runs (at least at first), so maybe it'll be more fun to experiment with the rest of the cast for a bit. I dunno.
I'm still enjoying this game a lot by the way. I just wish they would cut both of the autoscroll stages in half. Oh well.

I got to say truly love the game the game plays phenomenon was always. An the story was pretty decent it was like a Saturday morning cartoon. and the voice acting was on point 💪😉💯🔥 and I also heard that in the next update they might allow weapon overload swaps and allowing you to change certain characters mobility options. For example any character that has like a grappling hook can be swapped out for a dash/slide
Whoa, really? That sounds cool if they have those updates coming. It might make me use certain characters more.

@@LeoHoldenCrossYep. This can be helpful for various characters, like Ariana having a dash would help a lot, or if they would go as far as to give characters like Lucia a double jump. But yeah experimenting around with mobility would help a lot for characters that didn't originally have them.

Great job! Was curious to see how you deal with stage 6 boss' ''rotating laser beams'' but he didn't attack with those.
Yeah, I'm not sure what the best way is to deal with that. I've been dashing to the side and jumping on the wall as soon as I hear it coming, but last time I did that, the lasers trapped me instantly. Maybe just going into the corner and deciding where to go from there works better.

I agree, they are unbalanced. But there's only be a few runs of Extreme on this site and at this point he could be up for the challenge.

I always thinking to do a run with using Hard Corps Uprising BGMs but I even didn't own the game so it's impossible to me

My brother told me about this last weekend on the phone and I had a feeling you'd be giving it a go. It doesn't seem too bad to be honest, clearly being a 2.5D reimagining of the first three Contra games. Kind of surprised they didn't include more elements from them though, such as the corridor & overhead sections, instead of those pretty obnoxious scrolling levels. I mean, it's not supposed to be a copy of Gunstar Heroes now, is it? (^_^;)
It also has Contra 4 influence in it, even the same devs who made that made Operation Galuga as well.
@@mitu123Copper Hmm, I never got round to playing the fourth one myself, but I checked it out and you're so right. Very heavily influenced by the first and third games without a doubt - it even has the original corridor sections - with the final boss from Super Contra making an appearance at the end. I agree that this is an enjoyable game. My main problems with it are the art direction and the awful story. It's a shame cause I think most of the Contra games are awesome, especially hard corps

What’s wrong with the story? Story was actually decent with great voice acting. You must haven’t played other Contra games? I like Neo Contra but the story was ridiculous. They had a guy named plant Contra who behaved like a villain from scooby doo and had a talking dog name Dog Contra. Then there is one stage where you are running on the helicopter propeller blades like sonic the hedgehog while it’s air borne and you shootings down combat planes and even airborne battle carriers😂. But guess what, even while being over the top crazy it was a blast. So like others are saying the story is not really a negative of the game since it’s mostly just there for those that maybe into story modes. Shattered Solider story basically told us this was all a misunderstanding because the Aliens only attack earth because our government stole something from them and they wanted it back so humanity was the real villains.😂
But guess what, it still was a good game.
This is how I know some people are not real Contra fans. They will complain about something on this game but praise other games in the franchise that either has the same problem or worse. Meaning they are pretenders and may have a favorite Contra game and disappointed that this game is not like whatever Contra is their favorite which 9/10 it won’t be none of the 1st four Contra games which is Contra, Super C, Contra 3 and Hardcorps. As stated above some of them can’t even be a true fan of Shattered soldier or Neo considering the story. I promise you the majority of those trashing the games are mostly Shattered soldier and Hardcorps uprising fans. While both of those games are good too these individuals must have grew up on these games. So this is mostly a generation thing. Do know about this guy though, I’m pulling his Contra fan license just for complaining about the story mode. I wouldn’t be surprised if some these guys are undercover Contra legacy war fans
Maybe I understand the art direction, but I don't get your beef with the story. Contra has always been a Gameplay>Story series, so I don't really get that part. If you want a more story focused run and gun shooter, play something like Cuphead or Huntdown.
