- Every single canonical 2D Contra Boss/Boss fight since the first Contra. We have the NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis, Gameboy, and Playstation 2 games all in one place. You are not gonna find Contra Force, Hard Corps: Uprising, C: The Contra Adventure, & Contra: Legacy of war here. Those are all spin-off or non-mainline games. I might do this another time. If anything I'll just focus on the non-canonical 2D Contra games.
Neo Contra didn't make the cut because the file was already getting to big and if I included Neo Contra I would have to include Rouge Corps. I never played Rouge Corps before. I would like to do a canonical timeline video after I play that game and have it down. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video. It took a lot of time not to just play these games well but to edit and get all content I needed. A subscription and a like here would be very much appreciated. Especially if you liked at least one of the boss fights.

I loved as a kid how in Contra 4 the final area of the game is literally the entire body of the alien. That's probably one of the reasons why I love monsters so much.
That is one of my favorite stages. Still unique in the contra series

Shattered Soldier is basically one long boss rush and i love every moment of it.

If I remember correctly, this takes place several years after alien war, as bill was put in cryo jail for a crime he didn’t commit, until they made him an offer to help stop a terrorist organization. It’s hard to tell how exactly long bill was in cryo jail, but the wiki state that this takes place around 2000 years before the last in the timeline, neo contra
SS was what happens when Konami creates a 3d contra game for the first time on ps2 console. Contra Neo cleaned up some of those problems- but storywise made alot worse problems for continuity
Boss rush levels are somethat common in Konami games such as in Gradius II / Vulcan Venture and much more.
Can I just say I really appreciate a "boss showcase" vid that looks like the player knows what they're doing and isn't just sandbagging or giving up damage?

Man, Contra Hard Corps has so many bosses. Sure, i beat them all back in the days when i was a kid, but man, i didn't even count how many of them there are and how long it takes to beat them.

I agree, unfortunately, when I almost called it a game, I even agreed when Bahamut gave a choice and at that time I didn't know because I was playing the Japanese version

But the problem back then was that, i didn't understood english language like i do now (i'm from Ukraine by the way). So i had to learn in order to know, what those games want from me and how do i play it. But yeah, in the NES days i played japanese versions of the games and had to play it like that, without knowing what is happening. Like, there was a game called Flying Warriors, that was sort of like a beat'em up/fighting game, and i loved it, but i didn't know what that game wants from me, because it was japanese game, and i had to play it randomly, by doing stuff and see if it does any good to me or i will have to restart whole game.

Hard Corps is like an endurance boss run! One after the other, there are less "normal" enemies in this game. It's a hard and good Contra, but my personal favourite is still Contra 3 - The Alien Wars, I like the game's structure and gameplay a little bit better, it's just a little to short, that's the only flaw, Hard Corps has different paths to choose and different endings, which is a nice feature! Both are great Contras!

@@mikelisteral7863 oh yeah, definitely, I've got an art book of blood borne, and saw some concept art of Metroid. It's really high quality stuff, but the thing with these old games is, concept art wasn't so accessible back then.

Love seeing all these bosses masterfully beaten. Contra is a series I’d grown up playing with my dad, though by the time it got to the PS1 3D entries he’d lost interest in gaming altogether, but I’ll always have memories of us sitting down and playing through the first few together.

I used to have nightmares about being transported to a biomechanical alien hellscape. After watching this video, it was probably all the Contra games I enjoyed. Worth it though, what a great series. Thanks for the video!

Contra 3: The Aliens Wars. The only that I never was able to finish alone... and when "We" made it, was with the help of guy I met in arcades in 1998.

Contra 3 is a solid one. On hard mode it's still manageable. Shatter Soldier though, that game is hard!

With Konami code, it's pretty simple. The hardest Contra in the franchise is Super Contra IMO. That game waa relentless and unforgiving. Even the first arcade title was easy by comparison.
They gave me nightmares when I was a kid. But I still played Contra anyways. Oh I see you left the intro for Shattered Soldier. My most sincere thanks. That one rocks!!!!

The soundtrack to super c was still probably the best in the series I kno most won't agree but I honestly feel that way
It's a lot better than the og Contra. I enjoy the alien lair theme a lot. Some times I listen to it in the car.

I used to watch the boss runs for these games so much as a kid. Hard corps was great.
Contra 4 was brutal on hard mode and the challenges aswell, it was AMAZING to discover that after completion you unlock the first 2 contras and you can play them aswell, great game the nds sure was hell of a handheld console.
I wish more games unlocked their earlier games. Splatterhouse did the same thing

This made me curious about the Contra lore, again. Used to play Super and one on PlayStation, with the demo of Shattered Soldier.
It's wacky for sure. The main character pretty much lives through the penal colonization of earth

Hard corps has a huge variety
I'm a little surprised to say this, but the fully 3D Shattered Soldier holds up surprisingly well to it's processors. They really squeezed the most they could from the PS2 to make the game hold up aesthetically. Admittingly, it's noticeably mute in it's color pallet. That appears to be an artistic choice rather than a "limitation" one though.
Contra 4 had such a unique way of introducing bosses and stages. I loved the presentation. Amazing game, wish it was on console hardware. The split screen killed it for me. Still my favorite contra.
They could've ported it to Nintendo Switch and players can play with the screen detached vertically.
This is basically the entire series in one video, and I loved playing these to this day cause they never get old to me. Will you do Neo Contra next? That game is also canon, and it's after Shattered Soldier.

And yes, Operation Galuga is probably my third favorite Contra now. I like how it more-so borrows from the original trilogy, very much reminds me of Alien Wars.

Weird how in contra C, you beat the main antagonist 2 levels before the final boss. Almost as if they had a backup plan in case their leader fell. I guess they learned from the previous loss

So many creative angles. Ive notice many games influenced by contra. Even early metal gear is almost hard copy of these.

I forgot just how few polys the first XBox and PS2 were able to push in real-time. A lot of the models are on the order of 1999-2002-era PC games.
Some of these were nightmare fuel.
Contra 3 had the best bosses in the final level it was epic battling all the old bosses from the older games

The one I remember most is the 3rd one. My cousin and I used to use the game genie with it. Lol. We thought they sounded hilarious when they died and spun through the air, so we picked infinite lives and died a bazillion times. Falling off cliffs was the absolute funniest. 🤣 Good times good times. I still have that game, but no TV to play it on. Lost my power cord. Lol. My bad.
Those were the day man. If I had a time travel I would go back to those.

Oh hell, when I was kid I wasn't ever fast enough to try Fang B to D conversion that way (I always paused to give myself more time)
I was really surprised by Shattered Soldier.
Most of the 2d action platformers that went 3d for me just weren't done well, however this was epic.
The bosses, the weapons, the creepiness and gore ... it really made me feel like watching all the other Contra games, just in 3d and a bit improved as any sequal was before that.
I even feel that the second last boss with the worms like creatures around him, could have had a progression part where the worms go crazy and instead of attacking you, they start attacking him, thus morphin him into the abomination that is the final boss.
Even Operation C was like a great trailer to the next instalment.

In Hard Corps, is possible to defeat Powered Ninja Murasame before he tears the building down with brownie. You need to detonate the bomb right when he starts spinning, and then hit him immediately and repeatedly with the Chain weapon (C)

In shattered soldier, for the 1st boss (the turtle), 1st phase: if you align your feet with the second piller and use the grenade launcher, you won't be hit by none of the attack.

Honestly though, it's the most fun boss IMO. I like how you have to stand in the middle and required to be a sharp shooter. The crowd management alone can be tough.
Still hard to believe that Contra 3 last boss used the form of the boss from Super C in the final rush.
@@sinfulkivisian20 It ties it all together, which I like. You've got the Java, his Super C form, and then finally the true essence of Gava, Searle. It's a neat little call back, done in a way that actually mixes up the fight. Instead of it being just another overhead section rehashed, you get to fight him from a different perspective.
One of the many reasons 3 has always been my favorite, is that it neatly ties together the series, while also being, at least originally, the final chapter of Contra.
Even if they didn't make any more after 3, I would have been satisfied, as nothing comes close to it.
@@AltairEgo1 you are very right to say that. Contra 3 is still to this day a classic. It was one of the 2 games my brother and i owned when we got our first SNES. The 2nd game we had was TMNT 4:Turtles in Time. I actually made an attempt a few years ago to try and beat it on hard mode by myself after some trials and errors...and i finally beat it

The character I use can quick swap weapons to do ludicrous damage. You can see me swap weapons

does anyone know if there was any mention of copyright violation of the first game using either H.R. Giger works or facehuggers? I tried searching to see if anything comes up but nothing appears to come up regarding Contra's use of facehuggers in the game.
I never knew of such a case but it's well known that the series burrows heavily from the action film genre.
In Contra: Hard Corps, why are you switching between Fang's weapons often? What does that strat do? Thanks!
It eliminates the charge time for hist explosive fist, allowing to do the charged move right away

In Hard Corps, what's the trick to combining your weapons? I see your inventory scroll through every time you fire, but I can't tell what you're doing.
Looks like they shoot the 2nd projectile then quickly switch to the 4th, cancelling the wind up animation of the 4th one while still mantaining the projectile. I'm not sure but that's what it looks like. Never knew about it, it melts bosses.
You are absolutely right. This allows the charge up time to be negligible and allows the player to shoot as fast as they can as long as they have good rhythm.

Yes! Some also say it’s a different timeline. For example Contra Rebirth is a different universe

Browny is strong. His electric yoyo takes down a majority of the enemy cast easily
