Members of the Royal Family were today travelling to Scotland as doctors made a rare expression of concern over Her Majesty's health. In a special edition of our royal talkshow Palace Confidential, host Jo Elvin speaks to Richard Eden about the worrying news.

The Queen is so dedicated to her beloved kingdom. Feeling unwell, obviously, she met the outgoing and incoming Prime Ministers. She is a marvel and deserves all the respect of everyone on earth. I'm so sorry to hear she is this Ill. God save the Queen.

That last photo of her. In a tartan skirt, in a cozy cashmere sweater. This was the Queen as she wanted to be. A quiet country life, revolving around family, horses , her dogs and outdoor life. Yet out of almost unimaginable reserves a sense of duty bound her to be Queen, with all the demands and formality that entailed. And she did it all without complaint or whine. No, we will not see her like again.

This was an excellent and thoughtful conversation. Your point about people staying in power past when it’s wise. Richard makes an excellent point about not up to sitting at a desk really highlights her inability to carry on. We have this problem in the US government of people being allowed to stay in office with dementia and past a reasonable old age. I get people feeling a duty to carry on and do the work, but at whose cost? There are other people who can take up the office and duties. Now you’re going to have a 73 y/o king, when you have a 40 y/o William, that easily could take on that role. Let’s hope King Charles is able to pass the crown onto his eldest son while he’s still alive. RIP Queen Elizabeth and thank you for your historic 70 years of service.☮️❤️🇬🇧💙💜👑

Grateful thanks to you both for your tasetful programme in light of HM the Queen's declining health. Watching the gallery of photos at the end, one realises how LONG she has been around and how her resilience and determination to serve her beloved country, is truly an example of inspiration.

I feel so sad for the family, especially Charles who was denied a proper childhood because the Queen was grieving for her father and assuming the responsibilities of State. His younger siblings and her grandchildren were in a better position in their relationship with her as she had his support as the Prince of Wales.
I remember seeing an interview with him when he replied to a question about becoming King by saying it would be the worst day of his life because it would be when his mother died.
So very sad.
she swore to it, she promised it, she did it. Until her dying day.
I really hope she lives a while longer, it would be sad for her to go while Europe is at war (admitting it or not) the USA is falling apart and her grandson is trying to destroy her legacy. I really hope she stays a little longer when things are somewhat peaceful.

I’m still in a state of shock and disbelief that our Queen is now gone. She was a remarkable woman and we will never see her like again. My family was so nice to leave plenty of information tracing them back to England on my Father's side and Scotland on my Mothers. I'm 70 and got an emotional call from my friend this AM.
