Just did this on my 2006 Lancer ES. Super helpful video. Taking off the tire would have made it more comfortable to do the install, but I decided not to to save time. All I did was jack the front end up. You can still access the bolts to remove the plastic panel with a 12mm socket wrench. There's also a couple of plastic rivets that you'll need to pull out on the bottom side. After removing that, accessing the belt pulleys is a breeze. Make sure you get the belt on the A/C compressor pulley before the crankshaft pulley, otherwise you'll have a hard time fitting it.

Thanks for the video, just did mine today. One call out, I also needed to loosen bolt A in order for the tension on B to begin to loosen. Just used a simple 14mm combination wrench.

I've seen about a handful of videos covering this particular vehicle model and honestly yours is the best I've watched. Excellent work and presentation.

Great video, invaluable as a guide for doing the belts on my 2005 Lancer Equippe 1.6L 16v (4G18?). Some slight variations though, such as no tensioner pulley on the PAS belt - instead there are 14mm bolts which need to be loosen through the actual PAS pulley itself, and on the right side, which allows the PAS modeule to pivot and acts as the tensioner.

Even with 8 years a navy mechanic on jets under my belt, I was slightly intimidated. I haven't had to work on any vehicle I have had in the last 8 years. The last car I had to work on was a 85 Camaro not fuel injected and was just all around fun to work on anyway I got 220k out of that car and wish I still had it now. However my Lancer has treated me right.I bought the 06 in 2008 with 32K it & promised God & my wife not to fix it if it wasn't broke lol. The only thing I have had to do to it was the radiator at 86k (piece of cake). Unfortunately for me I have lost a bit of that edge you get from doing stuff like this often. Anyway it has 145k now and the timing belt went. no sweat I thought. OMG the balancer bolt took 2 ppl with a 5' breaker bar ext. to get off, the air ratchet was just not doing it & after that it was down hill for me from there. I did got the timing belt back on started fine and runs good but I wasn't the one who took it off the serpentine belt. I guess what I am ultimately saying here is THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO. It showed me the right way of removing & >>re-installing that belt.

look at the adjuster nut in the front of the tensioner pulley. Thee biggest problem i had was over tightening make sure you only tighten as much as you can twist the belt no more than 45 degrees or so. if you can ywist the belt more than that it is too loose.

I bolt is located close to that hard thingy(sorry i dont know the name of it) so i cant loose that bolt 😪. How did you get it out? I love cara but i hate how they make it so hard like that. That bolt could have been a few inches up

I can't help noticing that in Europe/US etc. you work on vehicles with high distance, as example 170,000 mi.
Here in sunny Japan it often makes economic sense to scrap at 100,000 km and replace. Obviously you need to be able to buy at auction. You wouldn't put out much more than $1,000, but "unavoidable charges" can double this. Scrapping is foc. Keep in mind that 100,000 km often comes up at around 10 years.

Does anyone foresee any problems with bypassing the AC Pulley with a shorter belt. And would anyone know what size belt since they never made this car without AC?

Did you find a solution to this question? I want to bypass the AC compressor on my Lancer and I wonder what size belt I need for that.

Hi Salman, I not sure exactly whats going on, but based on my experience it took me a while to loosen that bolt due to tight clearance. I would also suggest to tighten the bolt first and then try to open, and pay attention if you are able to see if there is any movement. Like I mentioned before due to tight clearance it took me a while to loosen the belt. I hope it helps, good luck.
