    I got my Orlimar 11 degree from my dad’s pile of old clubs when I was younger and trying to fill out a bag to go drink beer and goof off during a scramble. It was the only club I hit well that I remember. Fast forward 10 or so years and I’m playing with my dad, much more to his standard of the game, 7am tee times and no mulligans. I topped a 3w and had 205 left into a par 4. I pulled the head cover off my previously untouched Orlimar and set up behind the ball. My only swing though was “you never let me down”. I hit the shot of my life, only problem was it probably carried 205 and ran out the back of the green. My dad asked what I hit and I handed him my club, head facing him. He started to cry and took the club from me. The Orlimar 11 degree I kept in my bag for 10 years as an excuse not to buy a rescue hybrid was my grandfather’s trusty old favorite club. My dad took it after my grandpa stopped playing and loved it. He put it aside and moved on to another club, but decided to always keep it. A couple years later he couldn’t find it and feared he had given it away or thrown it away. He was devastated. That day he hit the Orlimar for the first time in 15 years, put it back in his bag and that’s where it sits today.

    Orlimar Trimetals with Ping Eye 2s and a Ping Anser putter make up the greatest golf bag of all time
    Still using them today after 25 years since my high school golf team

    My step dad gave me his orlimar 3 wood, the head is so small and im still getting used to hitting it. I hit a 227 yarder for my 2nd shot over a pond on a par5 landed just at the front of the green. Haven’t been able to clear it since I’ve started golfing it’s been kicking my ass. Thanks to this thing we finally did it 😂 It was a perfect ball, I can’t wait to hit more like it, the sound alone was amazing !

    I have 7 of these orlimar trimetals lying around, 3 drivers and 4 fairways. I still game them occasionally and they still compete with the modern stuff.Thanks for the great content. Subbed.

    I bought this club new many many years ago and it's still in my bag. It's hard to replace a club that simply keeps working for you.

    Interesting enough, I recently put my Orlimar trimetal 7 wood and 5 wood back in my bag, and my long game is so much consistent, again. I was following the trend and technology of today, and decided to buy a set of 2019 hybrids (I won't mention the brand), but wasn't consistent enough. I'm glad I didn't get rid of my woods.

    When this club came out I wanted it but i was just about 14 and couldnt afford it. A few years later when I was playing high school golf I was able to get 11 degree for used that i used as both a driver and a fairway wood. Believe it or not its a club that I still use sometimes because I know how consistent I can hit it off the fairway and it still gives me the condidence to try to get on the green in 2 on par 5's where im im about 250 out and have a lil wind at the back. I would say it is my favorite club of all time. I still use some of those clubs of the late 90s and early 2000s. Golf technology was starting to really modernize with titanium around this time and some of those clubs are still really good imo especially for people just getting into the game. Subscribing .

    I found an Orlimar 9 deg fairway wood at Goodwill. Looks brand new. Small head, shallow face and 9 deg. It's my go-to long range hail- mary rescue club.

    I have a 17 degree and I love it. Bought it for $1.99 at my local Goodwill. I would say it is my all time favorite fairway wood. My second is the Ram bore thru 5 wood with steel shaft. I also got it from Goodwill for $1.99.

    I still game the 17 and 21 and I have hit EVERYTHING. For me these are unreal, I'm a picker, a sweeper, not a digger, and for me theseget the height that others dont, and the length, awesome.

      Haha just found a 10.5, 19 n a 11 degree trimetal clubs today in my lil bro club pile😂😂 I am so ready to hit them, they feel so amazing to hold, amazing what some clubs from the 90s can do man

    Thanks for sharing!!! Agree 100 percent. The maraging face was crazy hot. The ball rockets off the club face. The sound the Orlimar used to make at impact is crazy. One of my all time favorite fairways with the callaway steelhead. Thanks man. Great review. I used to hit the 11 degree off the deck like a 2 wood.

    last year was having issues with shot #2 on longer holes. Needed a reliable 200 yard club from fairway and shallow rough. My Taylor Made 3 was fading too much. Now in the bag, the 1999 Orlimar Tri-metal 17 degree 4 wood. It seems to be the answer after two full rounds using it and replaced my 15 degree Taylor Made. Hit it probably it four times today and dead straight 200+ yards from fairway.

    My all-time favorite club is my Orlimar trimetal II 21° 7W with an Aldila Chrome shaft. It's my Swiss Army knife club.

    For years my favorite 3-wood was the Callaway Steelhead III. I got one when the came out and it was in and out of my bag constantly. However, I got a Callaway Rogue 3-wood this year and have to say it is now my favorite 3-wood, it will be my gamer for many years to come.

    Currently playing p7TW irons and PXG woods, but there is still a place in my bag for my 2 favourite clubs. Orlimar fairway wood and the Dual Force Rossie 2 putter. Just can’t take them out because of the utter confidence and joy when I pull them out the bag.
    P.S great videos by the way. This is what golf is all about. Keep up the good work!

    TGIF!!! Oh man now this is a blast from the past! I had that same club! Love love loved it! Didn't care for the driver but the fairway woods were awesome! Now I wish I still had it...........Hmmmm Ebay here I come. I have to agree with Jesse Parra It's probably between this and the Callaway Steelhead (original). Thanks for the fond memories!

    I've had one of these (15 degree) since the mid-90's. Since then I've only needed two woods in the bag: a driver off the tee and the Orlimar for everything else from mid-long distance fairway, rough and sand... even have hit it well off of tree stumps. Very versatile club. Makes the bag lighter or room for an extra iron if needed.

    If you were in high school playing golf back then (96-2000 for me) and you didnt have a TriMetal, Tight Lies, or Steelhead were you even hitting greens on those par 5's, lol. I loved both the trimetal and I still game the Tight Lies for my 3 wood (Cleveland Quadpro for my 5). I have a TriMetal 5 (whippy graphite shaft model) I found at thrift store for 3 bux in my fun bag for the range. Great memories. Keep up the great work!

    Ping Rapture fairway woods. 3 wood was a beast off the tee. 5 wood was great in many ways as well. Love a deep faced 5 wood.

    I have the 7.5 deg driver of that exact club with a stiff shaft which was still my favourite until 2012. I also have the strong 3 of exactly same which is still in the bag along with my favorite 5 wood of all time a steelhead callaway

    When ever I’d hit this club more times than not. someone would ask if I was on a tour. This club got lots of attention. Long, straight just one right after the other. I got my 13 degree to go 345 years. Once. Always at the back fence of the ranges. It sounded good too.

  • @sm1tty031
    @sm1tty031 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hit a Orlimar 5 wood once on a 200 yard par 3. I flew it 40 yards past the green onto the next tee box. It went straight as a arrow and high!

  • @JackRainfield
    @JackRainfield 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great 3 wood was the Titleist PT 3 wood. It was a metalwood from the 90's that a lot of the tour guys used and it was long and straight. Great sound at impact too. I think it came in a 14 degree loft.

  • @ryanu3708
    @ryanu3708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    i still play the 19 degree version of this with a stiff graphite shaft. Have tried all kinds of fitted fairway metals and hybrids. Can't be replaced.

      Hey quick question, I have the exact 19° club. Can I use it as a hybrid club? Which leads me to my next question, is it a hybrid club or is it a wood?

  • @leen8939
    @leen8939 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve got a 13 and 19 with the graphite shafts in regular in the loft that I don’t use . I’m playing in the morning and after watching some of your videos I’ll dig them out and give them a try along with my v steel 3 wood

    3 metal Olimar is the oldest club in my bag. Easy to hit in light rough .. always solid. I don't like to look down at a fat fairway club.

  • @2Eaglez
    @2Eaglez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best old fairway wood was a Persimmon 4 wood made by H&B (later change name to Powerbuilt). Best newer fairway wood is a Callaway Steelhead XR Heavenwood. Also still have a 16 degree Trimetal and use it once or twice a round.

    I liked the Adams Tightlies a little better than the Orlimar. I had a tightlies with an Aldila shaft ( both first generation, I think?) for years. Both great clubs, super easy to hit. Thanks

    I currently game the exact club in your hand. Puring this thing feels unreal, and the sound lets everyone around you know you nailed it. not the most forgiving MOI but offcenter shots are decent, maybe a little on the slicey side for me. I have a very mixed bag, but loved this club so much I picked up an orlimar HipTI 420cc driver and WOW what a change over my Cobra Amp Cell. Easily picked up 20 yards and narrowed down my spread by another 20! Dont let the "budget" price fool you, these clubs are DECENT gamers.

    • @kauaigold
      @kauaigold 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheVintageGolfer If you ever get the chance to try one, give the HipTI 420cc driver a try. I let everyone in the group try it, everyone seemed to hit as far or BETTER with it vs their current driver (adams, TM, Callaway), having never swung it before. The face is smokin' hot and it sounds like an NCAA baseball bat

    Greatest fairway wood off the tee for me is Cobra SZ 13 degree 3+. Goes a ton. Often farther than my driver. Off the deck? Cobra F8 set to 16 degrees.

      I gamed a Browning 56 for almost ten years. Recut the grooves three times. Finally ran out of metal. I’ve always been a good bunker player but I holed out with that club more than any of its successors.
