As you said it yourself.. javelins are unique and different. You dont see them every day. It would be cool to restore, but expensive. It would make a great driver with minimal work though. You just proved that it will drive.. now its on to making it safer. Awesome episode guys..
My cousin's father retired from AMC and was on the chief designing team for the muscle car division for a decade. I know everything there is to know about these cars and have always wanted one!
I had a 70 Javelin in high school with a 304 and a 4 spd manual with a Hurst shifter. Mine suffered from the front wheels locking up too, but it was a bad master cylinder. When my front wheels decided to lock up, I had to back up until they started rolling again and then I was good to go until next time. I also had the same long shackles to compensate for the clapped out rear leaf springs.
I always thought Javelins had one of the nicest looking front ends of the period muscle cars. Had a friend who had a 74 Charger SE with the 400 magnum engine and a 72 Javelin that he dropped a 527 (? Don't quote me on the cubic inch but it barely fit) racing engine in, converted to a T-top, pistol grip shifter and a custom pin stripe job (which is what he did for work back in the 70s. That Javelin was fast. Alabama even had a few that were used as police cars back in the 70s.
Love these old AMC cars. I ha b e had a 71, 72 and 73 Javelin. I've built a 304, 390 and 401 for them. People don't give them enough credit for what they did.
1974 Javelin! Lifelong AMC fan here, would love to own a 2nd gen Javelin! I’d fix it up to driver status (reliable and safe) and drive the hell out of it, then when my son is old enough to turn wrenches we’d turn it into a father son project and make it nice. I have a few 401s sitting in storage that would be perfect for these cars. Honestly, I’d fix them both up over time, nothing better than a father and son (or daughter) pair of cars! You guys are inspiring, keep at it! Definitely earned a subscribe from me.
Thanks! If we don't hit our goal would you be interested in selling one of those 401's? hahaha. It's now Alex's car (camera man) unless we get the views and subs we said.
My first job, an elderly coworker of mine had a 70 Javelin. She had it since new, I tried desperately to buy it, but she wouldn't bite. She retired when I was there and I tried looking her up years later, but couldn't find her. Whomever gets this car, will have a nice starting point.
1974 Javelin! Were it mine, I would simply weld in some patches over the holes in the floor, sort out fuel tank, and have a look for exhaust leaks. Probably double-check the brakes. Probably shocks. A little tune-up. Like so many others, I love Mad Max. I'd leave it just the way it is. Seek to preserve it, and keep it out of the salts. Nice find fellas!
No way! I saw these on marketplace for the last few months and was hoping someone would be them a home. Way to go man! I got a 74 amx I’ve been slowly piercing back together myself.
Haha, yeah we've had the listing saved for a while and actually went to look at mustangs that were sadly completely froze up. So we went the opposite direction to omaha!
I owned a 73 javelin myself. Currently working on a 74 gremlin. I’ve been a diehard AMC guy since I was 19. (I’m 47 now) what you have most likely is a 304 car with a AMC/Chrysler 904 automatic transmission and the rear end is a AMC Dana/model 20 rear end. Between both those cars I’m pretty sure you can make a decent ride out of one of them. I hope you don’t put a Chevy motor in it.
The AMC 20 axle was neither designed by, made by, or affiliated with Dana/Spicer. It's entirely AMC. The AMC 15 axle was sold to Dana in the 80's and renamed the Dana 35, but was an AMC design dating back to the early 60's.
@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps Good luck with that. There are NO blower manifolds ever made for the AMC V8. A few people have spent inordinate time & money to whittle down an old dual quad manifold and weld on a blower top..... but it's more for show than performance.
Gm ignition, Ford Carb, Chrysler Trans...... rest is all glorious AMC. Once you get the hang of it they're easy to work on. And that's an AMC Model 20 rear.
1974 Javelin! As a youngster in the AMC world and owning a 65 Rambler, this wasa blast to watch. Since i got my Classic its gotten my dad motivated again after his stroke. Keep up the great work and dont stop speadin the love, thanks for great content and positivity! ❤️🤍💙
Cool video. I'm hoping I wasn't the only one yelling at the screen when you mounted that tow bar. Glad nobody was hurt. At 55-60 it could've gotten ugly...quick.
I had a 71 Javelin 40 years ago, miss it and wish I could find another one. I do own an AMC Eagle and I come from an AMC family, dad worked at Milwaukee plant and he and both my granddads drove AMC's.
My sister had a Javelin when I was younger, and loved it, but it ended up in the junk yard and I couldn't rescue it. Second chance Javelin! Now In 58 and ready for a project
As a Ford guy, i think AMCs are very underrated. My friend bought 2 AMC Eagles that used to be my grandpas. One being a pretty mint 1982 Eagle SX/4 with a 304 V8 swapped into it and an 82 wagon for parts. On his they have Ford Carbs and ignition, a GM Master cylinder and steering columns, and a Chrysler transmission. Then my dad has a restored 69 AMX with a 390. But other than stuff they borrowed, they made pretty much everything else themselves
Never messd with Javelins, but do have my own AMX story. About 45 years ago, we had a family neighbor, and the father ran an AMC Dealership. Around my town, we also had a Chrysler plant. Mopars, Javelins, AMXs, Hornets, Ambassadors, everything! But let's get back to AMC... They had 2 Hornets, and their son had a 69 AMX. He tore it apart already. It was first white, then red, then he painted it purple. Graphics on the doors was hand painted Tasmanian Devil, from the cartoon. Added some, I think, Mickey Thompson wheels. Under the hood, an insanely modded 390 or 392. That hood, of course, got an insane hood scoop, to be friends with that intake. Interior was mainly stock. I do remember that T-handle Hurst shifter. Great audio system: Just an 8-track and some 6x9's. The tapes played were Boston, Molly Hatchet, and Charlie Daniels. That AMX won many drag races at St. Louis International Speedway. I was only like 12 or 13 then, and I rode in that thing, holding my ass on, for dear life. GREAT TIMES. Fast forward to now, 2024. The son is now aged in his late 70's. Guess what, he STILL has that AMX! Kinda off-topic, he's also built a Chevy Vega station wagon. Shoe-horned-shoved a 350 in it. Also did a great performance mod on a 73 Triumph Spitfire convertible. As always, even 45 years later, his cars RIP! Thank you for taking time out and reading my story. Greetings and blessing from San Diego, CA.
I've been restoring a 74 Javelin also and I love it my dad had one when I was young and when he sold it, I never got over it to make a long story short I saved up to buy one.
Its wonderful seeing rare cars revived for the road. I know my 1977 Mercury Marquis 4dr with the 400 6.6 and FMX is rare only 270 to 8100 of my model were ever made in 77 (depending on production number.) It's getting the Mad Max treatment getting turned into a wastelander car for Wasteland Weekend. 4000 miles round trip to near Edward's AFB and back home. Only paid 800 bucks for it but it needed alot of mechanical work (new engine and trans) on its 2rd engine and 3rd transmission about to be a 3rd engine I need to make sure it don't break down there. So either 460 or another 400
1974 Javelin! This would be a great project car for my grandson and I, I would let him have it and it would be a bad ass car to have in high school today!
I have owned several javelins over the past 40 plus years .and many othet AMC,s I still have my first one its a 71 .been restored twice.lol Its my Baby.
You would have a hard time finding twenty-somthing dudes doing what you do where I'm from,..... Good for you! Those front brake rotors look paper thin, LoL. I've never seen anyone drill out collapse brake hoses before, but if it works, Is it really a dumb idea! Great video fellers!
Yeah, things with independent front suspension won't flat tow and follow without the weight of the engine and trans. Straight axle vehicles tow awesome either way.
Just a tip. Start checking your transmission adjuster cables aka tv cable on the linkage on carburetor. Could have kept that tranny nice and healthy because driving it with it stretched or seized will burn the clutches out due to not enough pressure. Which cause slippage. Especially while towing another car
1974 javelin I had an 84 bronco that I absolutely loved but wrecked my daily and unfortunately had to sell it and get something more practical. Now that I have something more practical I want another old project and I was leaning more towards a mad max style build to begin with so this would be perfect
i am in the process of restoring a 1974 Javelin myself. I had one as a teenager and made the big mistake of selling it. Good luck on your restoration. Kathy Lowe
My mom ordered a yellow 68 AMC Javelin SST with black interior buckets and auto V8. She said it was Super Sport Tuff. Dad said that car was the biggest POS ever built. Too bad she didn’t still have it cuz I love those unique cars. Car was sold back in California.
Epic little trip with little to no budget - that's the way to do it, mate. I fell in love with the AMC Javelin the first time I clapped eyes on one. Being that I am in New Zealand, it wasnt on our roads, but on another TH-cam channel. I looked them up and found out a lot of info on the wee beasties. For a car that was basically homogenised from every other manufacturer's old stock, the AMCs still have quite a big following....but it's only now that people are getting into repro-ing parts for them so now is a good time to get one. On the show I mentioned, I saw a '68 Rebel 2-door hardtop and was so surprised that such a beautiful car was made by AMC and largely went unremarked and ignored as a muscle car. Then on the same show, they showed a barn with an early Javelin SST complete with GO package...and THAT was when I fell in love with the shape. Here was a car that looked like the love-child of a '73 Mach 1 and a '72 Challenger, had an interior that looked cool and the whole car just looked MEAN! From every angle, the car had presence and even when the camera went three-quarter profile from the left rear quarter, she was STILL a looker. Then they walked into another barn.....and my jaw dropped. There were 3 AMC Javelins....all AMX models and all with the GO package as well. There was a mid-blue metallic one (like LeMans blue in colour), a white one and a black one - all with the decals, all with the special wheels and spoilers and such and all with the big 401 in them. The white one looked very patriotic, the blue one was stunning but the black one......wow. It was in a league of its own. However, they never exported them CKD to be put together here and nor were thy old new on any lot, so the only ones in my wee country are imported since 1987.....and as I said, I've not seen one in the flesh. To me, they are a beautiful vehicle and even though the rear end looks shorter because of the C-pillar that carries on to the rear of the car, they are well proportioned. I often thought that they would do quite well on the winding roads in my country due to their shorter wheelbase than the Muzzies and 'vettes and have kept my eyes open for one, but to no avail. Unlike most muscle cars however, they look like someone with legs and over the age of 10 would actually be able to sit in the back seat comfortably. Again, not having looked at one up close, I don't know and would like to find out. They are an under-rated vehicle in my opinion and their day or being recognised for what they are is surely coming. Here's hoping you can put one good-ish one together and be able to drive the beast down the road on a regular basis.....and safely! I'll certainly keep watching (yes, I am subscribed) to find out the car's fate. All the best
Absolutely beautiful car. Have always had a weakness for older muscle cars. First car was a 71 roadrunner and would love to just have another beautiful car.
My brother's first car was a javelin as soon as he got it someone t-boned him at an intersection running the stop sign almost killed him totaled the car what a shame he passed away last year and this car would keep his memory alive for me not to mention it's one of my favorite cars also I'm in a wheelchair so I can only drive cars nothing too tall I can't get into them that guy would be perfect I hang out at the car shows now have something to show for it if I got it thanks for the amazing content look forward to future vids
Dude, you guys are gonna be way over 100K subs by this time next year, and probably over 200K. I love the rear shackles/stance on that car---it just screams 70's street rod
Nice ride, my dad had a 72 with a 304 engine if my memory serves me correctly I would love to have one to build in his memory Keep up the great work May Gods Blessings continue to be with you always
Incredible! I wish I had yer energy. I’m an idiot and run strange foreign cars. They take way more time to get going. Parts for those are unicorns. But you do meet some great folks along the way. Thanks for the enjoyment keep it up.
I've never had an old project car to work on. I've always thought javelins were cool and unique. I've got four daughters and maybe at least one of them would want to do this project with me.
Great video. Those old Javelins are cool. I just found your channel. Midwesterners (especially guys from my old home state of Iowa) working on old junk cars; that's right up my alley so I had to subscribe.
Make a complete running and driving car from the two and just enjoy what, AMC had to offer. A full restomod would be nice but as you said it is what it is, and in my book that's just fine
With just a few easy mods the york ac compressor can be turned into an air compressor. Great for on board air for off roaders. I have one on my 88 chevy 1500 with air ride. Fills the 5 gallon tank fast.
I love Javelin’s.. I love AMC in general, always have.. My Dad use to say, Dodge was the blue collar man’s car, but he couldn’t afford shirts with collars so he drove an AMC..😂 It would be cool to have, that’s for sure. Glad you made it home and that the front end ripped off the parts car “before” you got too far.. that could’ve been ugly.. congratulations.
I owned two 74's was in my 20's . Semi hailing steel ran a light went over my hood cop seen the whole thing and was yelling at the driver. Pulled everything out of it. Put all the parts into another gutted 74 wires rear end engine interior and all. I drove that Javelin for years. miss that car. Traded it for my wife a ride. About 40yr ago
Your channel makes for enjoyable watching! You guys provide finely edited, funny and sometimes a little scary content. I'm sure to keep watching. Keep up the great work.
Great to see. ... Very cool nostalgic video. Gotta treat those cars with respect. I completely restored a 1973 Javlin. Light blue with a black vinal roof. Wrecked and burnt from a junkyard back in 1979 ? My sister took it on her honeymoon 2 weeks after it was done. Had it for years then stored it for years when I moved out of state. Came back to a unit that needed restored again but did not have the time or money so eventually sold it. Now I am 72 and retired. Looking for a Javlin again as my Dad was also a Rambler dealer back in the day and all 7 kids and Mon all drove used Ramblers or AMC's and would like to find one to do for my 73rd birthday. Not looking for a show car but a decent looking daily driver. How much can I buy this one for? You just don't find them anymore. I also had a 68 silver fastback but the 73 was a much cooler look . ..
Great fun. Think if anything the memories you guys will share forever. My little bro and I still sit around and remember our car memories. Fun! I don't want the Javelin. ;)
SO, what next should we look for??
More AMCs! By the way those wheels on the parts car are worth $1000- $1200 the way they sit. They are 15s
Yes more AMCs! Save the orphans!!!
An AMC Eagle or one of the AWD cars would be neat! Keep it up!

That would look good! 💪🏻
My mom ordered a yellow 68 AMC Javelin SST with black interior buckets and auto V8. She said it was Super Sport Tuff. Dad said that car was the biggest POS ever built. Too bad she didn’t still have it cuz I love those unique cars. Car was sold back in California.
1974 Javelin!!! Cool cars!!!
1974 javelin…. My dream car!❤❤❤❤
Hey guys im so glad there are guys like u that have the passion and the the cash to keep these cars from the crusher of the dust pan.
We're glad to do it, thanks for watching!
1974 Javelin. Had the same year when I was 17 long ago back in 82. Great video guys!
Also always wrap the seat built around the wheel and buckle it or just tie it super tight. Keep the wheel from moving
1974 Javelin
My father had a 74 and its always been a dream to get one to build in his honor!
The parts store will let you match up brake hoses. Just like you can match radiator hoses👍👍👍
We went in there and did that, they looked almost identical but the new one hit sadly.
1974 javelin
They are awesome cars! Would look great next to rust bucket 37 ford pickup!
Dude selling the car is wild.. looks like he has on a costume
Love the old javelin and amx
I'm sorry to hear that, thanks for watching, glad we could bring back some memories!
Towing with a standard Beetle tow bar!!! Funky, very funky.
Verrrryyyy funky!
Dude, you guys are gonna be way over 100K subs by this time next year, and probably over 200K. I love the rear shackles/stance on that car---it just screams 70's street rod
We fuc*n hope so man 😆
Nice ride, my dad had a 72 with a 304 engine if my memory serves me correctly
I would love to have one to build in his memory
Keep up the great work
May Gods Blessings continue to be with you always
Thank you, you as well!
Incredible! I wish I had yer energy. I’m an idiot and run strange foreign cars. They take way more time to get going. Parts for those are unicorns. But you do meet some great folks along the way. Thanks for the enjoyment keep it up.
Thank you! Glad you liked the vid!
1974 javelin
Have loved this channel since I first saw the f100. This channel needs far more subs
I would adopt that Javelin!
1974 Javelin! Wooooooo! Love what you guys do. Towing a Javelin with a Javelin, who'd a thunk.
Haha, glad ya like it!
I didn't know they made grass headers, but I'm seeing them now!
My first car was a AMC Javelin SS 1972. Owned it for 7 years. Wish I still had it. Who d a thought it was a rare car.??
You mean sst they didn't have a ss
1974 Javelin! My uncle had a blue 74, and I’d love to have one to fix up to build my channel off of!
I've never had an old project car to work on. I've always thought javelins were cool and unique. I've got four daughters and maybe at least one of them would want to do this project with me.
1974 Javelavelavelavelin
Freaken awesome stuff brothers!
Cheers from TX
1974 Javelin!. What a fun car. Always wanted one.
Cool car. I would just fix it up stock given they are so rare.

Gahhh that sucks, wish ya had em too!
"1974 Javelin " I have had 3 of these in the past, never had the money to restore them, now things are different. Would love them.
1974 Javelin
Great video, loved watching you wrench on it.
Regards,
Bob
Thanks Bob!
Great video. Those old Javelins are cool. I just found your channel. Midwesterners (especially guys from my old home state of Iowa) working on old junk cars; that's right up my alley so I had to subscribe.
Love your enthusiasm. Would love that car in my garage. Javelin are rare.
Thanks!
Make a complete running and driving car from the two and just enjoy what, AMC had to offer. A full restomod would be nice but as you said it is what it is, and in my book that's just fine
Thats the plan!
I want the Javelin as an investment to fix on a little at a time till it's even sweeter than it already is!!!
With just a few easy mods the york ac compressor can be turned into an air compressor. Great for on board air for off roaders. I have one on my 88 chevy 1500 with air ride. Fills the 5 gallon tank fast.
Haha, that's good to know!
AMC Javelin, unique cool looking car bring it to Wisconsin home of AMC.
If it does end up getting given away it has to come with those wheels they look awesome on the car great job guys keep it up 👍🏻
It will if it does! Thanks for watching!
I love Javelin’s.. I love AMC in general, always have.. My Dad use to say, Dodge was the blue collar man’s car, but he couldn’t afford shirts with collars so he drove an AMC..😂
It would be cool to have, that’s for sure. Glad you made it home and that the front end ripped off the parts car “before” you got too far.. that could’ve been ugly..
congratulations.
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
I want the Javelin for a father - son project. My son is 13 and it would be an awesome first car for him.
That would be awesome!
1974 Javelin!
Great content keep the videos coming!
Your channel makes for enjoyable watching! You guys provide finely edited, funny and sometimes a little scary content. I'm sure to keep watching. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much! We appreciate that!
Making those sweet sweet memories thanks for bringing us along
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I also had a 68 silver fastback but the 73 was a much cooler look . ..
Great job guys 👍👍
That Javelin is sweet! I've always wanted a 68. I almost bought a Hornet with a 360 but the steering was really jankey. I wish I bought it now though.
As long as it's not engine or trans problem... Or rotted out like crazy, shoulda taken it!
Keep it , its unique!👍
Great fun. Think if anything the memories you guys will share forever. My little bro and I still sit around and remember our car memories. Fun!
I don't want the Javelin. ;)
We always have some great memories from everyone of these, thanks for watching!
