I drove a 1967 international travel-all 4x4 ex forestry truck from northern BC Canada (Tumbler Ridge) to southern BC in the middle of winter. Stopped for christmas at my mom's place (Williams Lake). Then made my way south. Just for the fun of it I was towing a 30 foot nomad travel trailer. Most the way I wore my snowmobile suit. The heater kept the windshield clear but not much else. Shut down a couple of times by carb ice. AH, the good old days.
In northern Ariizona, about 40 years ago, my buddy and I would drive through the woods in a 60s-era International pickup. We would hunt and camp there. One day, the International resulted in dinner. Out of nowhere, a wild pig (boar) ran out in front of the truck on the trail road. Killed him dead, smashed his skull into the thick steel diamond plate bumper. We stopped, threw the pig in the back, and drove back to camp. We butchered him, with our large military type camping knives. That night, we ate fire roasted pig and drank Jack Daniels for dinner. Thank you, International! We wasted nothing from that roadkill. Had bacon, ham, pork chops, and ribs for WEEKS.
I bought one of those, year? Don't remember, mine was a Cherokee Chief, Switched out the motor (someone else) and drove it for 3 or 4 years, then left New Mexico and took it approx 4500 miles to Anchorage, AK.
Right thru my neck of the woods! Most people forget that the ozark mountains are in Arkansas. We do have a lot of flatland but a lot of mountains too. Sketchiest thing I’ve done with old junk is a got a 58 f350 out of a junkyard, got it running just in time for a car show/parade and turns out I cross threaded the brake line so it bled out and about 2 miles away from my house, brakes went to the floor. So I did the right thing and drove it 45 miles to the show, drove it in the parade and drove it home without brakes just to find out the next day the only issue was a cross threaded brake line
