    I prefer the R6 simply because 20mp is more than enough for me and I prefer to perfect my composition without thinking "don't worry because you can always crop". And if I need more megapixels, I use the Enhance feature of Lightroom and double the pixels 👌 It works really fine !

      YES! I've compared R6 ENHANCE files to R5 files at 45 MP and more often than not, the R6 files are sharper and more detailed than the R5 files. So it's great when needed (which is rare).

    loved your overview! I started with the R6, then the R5, and i also reach more and more my R5: the mode switch system between video/photo modes is way more enjoyable, even if the R6 would have been enough. it's been a bit rough for me to get used to the high resolution pics with the R5, but I think R6 photography is enough. for people serious with video I do think the R5 is really important because of the possibilities and file management in 4K and high fps with the different CF cards is a game changer. using both together is the best combo i've had ever!

    As a wedding photographer I really prize the my twin R6 bodies over the r5. Generally I don't crop much, only to straighten and occasionally remove extraneous details.
    What's more super high res shows more of the unflattering details of my couples' skin in their images, and eats up storage on my computer and drives.
    What I do value with the R6 is better low light performance for overall cleaner images. I would like it if the R6 was made with the same LCD and hard build quality but it's not bad at all.
    Still if someone gave me an r5, I'm definitely not going to be sad 😂

    The R5 is a clear winner for anyone who sees the R5 as an upgrade to the R6 - it can be difficult to go from a 30mp 5d4, to a 20mp R6. Being able to crop an R5 image from landscape to portrait and still have 19 megapixels is definitely a nice pro for the R5

    • @TKNORTH
      @TKNORTH  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's definitely a nice ability to have to be able to crop in and still have a pretty high resolution! Again probably comes down to the price for most people. Also the type of photography I think. Personally for something like landscape photography I think the extra megapixels are great. Something like portraits, maybe not as important for me.

    • @77dris
      @77dris ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just upscale the R6 files using Adobe Camera Raw "Enhance" feature when needed. I tested about 50 files (portrait, landscape, studio) from both using the best RF lenses. Using ENHANCE on the R6 files then outputting in Adobe Camera Raw to 45 MP yielded sharper more detailed images than the 45 MP coming out of the R5 (viewed at 100% zoom on a 5K monitor). This sold me on the R6 (Mark II actually) over the R5. I had owned the 5D IV and R for a while and was hesitant about getting 24 MP for a camera until I did this. That's when I realized that MP was overrated.
      I've actually had 8 MP 1D Mark II files posted up on city buses (billboard size too) that looked phenomenal. 24 MP is a great sweet spot. There is nothing I can't print with the R6 Mark II.

My channel is predominantly hair tutorials and trying to decide what to go for. i had a 90d but struggled with light flicker when close to fluorescent light. i normally have my tripod set up around 2 metres away and when i post edit i tend to zoom in but with the iphone 14 (48 mpixels) which i’ve been using it can pixelate when zooming in with the editing app. obviously that isn’t good . so what would you suggest out of the two. or if there is anything else you would recommend then let me know but it must have a flip screen and be full frame

    R6 performs better in autofocus at lower light levels -- that's per the specs of sensitivity and I assume it bears out in real world testing. Also, fewer megapixils means less degradation; this bears repeating:
    "When it comes to megapixels, more isn't always better, as cramming a higher pixel-count onto a sensor may actually degrade the quality, rather than improve it, as the photosites that create the pixels will need to get smaller and smaller - and hence gather less light - as the number goes up."
    I LOVE the R6 and would presumably love the R5 (except the price). The autofocus is out of this world and has reignited my passion after a miserable run with AF and slow lenses with 7D. However, I don't know that I can ever update firmware again; my only camera update in a million years - from 1.4 to1.7 resulted in banding and a second update rendered my camera's buttons to shoot inoperable. Now it's at Canon repair at a $400 cost to me despite my pristine R6 prior to the update.

    Coming off a Canon 5D Mark IV and have no idea where to go. I liked the Mark Iv, but there's no doubt the focusing systems have become so much faster with auto focus.

    • @TKNORTH
      @TKNORTH  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old 5D IV user here as well! Honestly the AF systems would have to be the biggest jump for me, most situations it’s almost like having one less thing to thing about. That should be same across R5, R6 and the new R6 mark ii as well (haven’t tried it out).
      So I guess budget, resolution needs and then video specs if you do any, are really the deciding factors for me. To me the R6 Mark II would have to be a sweet spot for most people in terms of resolution. Big enough for most needs but keeping file sizes down compared to say an R5.

    • @Fr0mDust2Dust
      @Fr0mDust2Dust ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TKNORTH Wow, thanks for the detailed response. Wasn't expecting that. I do video on separate camera's and my 5Dmiv is just for photo purposes. But the difficulty is knowing I'm losing 10mp. Would I be shocked if I saw the difference? Is it going to feel like a downgrade just with faster AF systems? or is it completely an upgrade without compromising?

    • @77dris
      @77dris ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I owned the 5D Mark IV and the EOS-R for quite some time and was hesitant to get the R6 because of the drop in resolution. Then the R6 Mark II came out and I got that. The R6 Mark II is better in almost every single way, especially when it comes to AF reliability and speed. The R6 Mark II NAILS autofocus at a much higher rate than the 5D IV (especially with third party (sigma art) lenses where the 5D struggled and the R6 II is nearly perfect). The differnce in resolution between 24 and 30 MP is almost nil but since the R6 II is way better at getting a sharp photo out of cam, essentially you will get more detailed files.
      I shot hockey once with the R6 II and it nailed 99% of photos even using eye AF. I would be lucky to get 50% with the 5D IV or even 70% with the 1D Mark III.
      I've also upscaled the R6 II files using Adobe Camera Raw's Enhance Super Resolution feature and frankly it will even beat the R5's native 45 MP files when I do this (using the best RF lenses, zoomed to 100% on a 5K monitor). There is nothing I can print on the R5 that I couldn't print with the R6 II (same for crops obviously) let alone the 5D IV.
      The 5D IV was amazing for low light and dynamic range but the R6 Mark II is actually 1 stop better.

      @@lucidparalysis2794 after a little more time with the R6 I do think it's worth it. For starters I can use my back catalogue of film era lenses - and they work very well. After 30 years of professional photography, 4 years of real estate video. I'm finally starting to accept that Canon sucks. Been on a break for about a year. Tried to film a car in 60 degree weather today. R6 lasted about 20 min before over heating. camera wasn't even recording for half of that 20 min. I have 2 R6's. They both suck. R5 a little better, but not by much. Got all new RF pro glass. So frustrated. I'd rather go back to my EOS R and older EF lenses with ND adapter. Would love to have the extra 10k plus back in my account. THANKS CANON! Now I see why people get divorced after 30 years. BTW this comparison is bias. Having to carry and manage both CF and SD cards totally sucks. Also remember you will be using low light in many scenarios. That's a huge factor especially for weddings and events. Never forget the majoprty of your contant will be seen on small screens and never printed. not large anyway. that goes for 95% of the people here. You don't buy these cameras strictly for studios, If so just get an Iphone 14 pro max. seriously! You also aren't buying these cameras for pro films for that matter. I could go on, but honestly if I was just starting, and I'm telling everyone I know, who asks. Go Sony if you want a good cross breed. Canon burned their pros a long time ago... If you've been doing this long enough to be a pro, you know..Just trying to help. I'm sure most would rather keep that hard earned money.

      There is no good option for hybrid shooter in Sony. A7IV is so close, but it has 4k 50/60fps crop.

      Hmm sell me. For what reasons should I go to Sony and which camera?

      I use the R6 for photography only. Canon closing their system to 3rd party lens companies is a big disadvantage compared to Sony. Overall I think, for photography, Sony with 3rd party lens support provides greater value proposition and much wider flexibility. That’s the sales pitch 🙂
