    For this test, I compared the 24 Megapixel Canon R6 II to the 45 Megapixel Canon R5 to see how they compared when printed at 100 ISO and 10,000 ISO. I have used cameras over the past 17 years ranging from 20 to 102 megapixels and looked through well over 1,00,000 images in thousands of different environments. I wanted to see how different these two cameras were when it comes to ink and paper and not just pixels on a screen.

    Excellent comparison. You've quickly become one of my favorite speakers on TH-cam about photography. Really informative, concise and impartial. Appreciate your work!

    Thank you sir for such an awesome review! I recently used the Canon R5 for a wedding and the amount of sharpness is amazing, especially the eyes!!!! Thank you and I just subscribed!!!

    Thanks so much for creating this particular set of comparisons as I’ve been evaluating the R6ii vs the r5. In your video, you refer to the “enhance feature” on r6ii prints. Is this an in- camera feature or are you referring to software like Topaz or other similar options?

    • @ThePhotographerGuy

      If you right click on an image in LR you will see the "Enhance" feature. You can reduce noise or add resolution.

    Thanks for sharing. Two great work horses im sure. Could you see yourself possibly using Fuji for your weddings? Im trying the XH2s and apart from some really low light churches im seeing good results especially with the prime lenses.

      You bet. I would definitely be happy using the new fuji cropped sensors for weddings.

    Interesting comparison and great informative video, thank you for your work. Many people claims that R5 noise performance is actually better than R6II after downsampling R5 to 24 mpx. Maybe that works for low resolution displays which can show just small part of image but when you print an all pixels are used - R6II image seems cleaner, interesting! What about similar test with R5 vs Fuji GFX? Best would be some landscape, portraits are not so demaning for details, sometimes less can look better.

      Thanks. Ya. After printing the R6 ii really held up. if you download the images there are R6 II, R5, X-T5, and GFX 100s images in the same folder. You can compare them there.

    Great Content for Doc/vlog content. Would you recommend the Canon r62, Canon r5 or Sony Fx3? I also like to take pictures.

      Thanks. I'm a Canon guy for the most part. so I would recommend R5 and R62. I used Sony for a couple of years and it wasn't for me.

    Hi, friend! I sold my r6 because I didn't like it very much for photography, my previous camera was a 5d mark iii and it seems that it was sharper or I don't know if it was because of the megapixels, the fact is that now I have doubts about whether to buy the r5 but I just ended up to see this and download the files and I'm blown away! I don't know what to do. Do you think that the R5 is really worth it today?

    • @ThePhotographerGuy

      The R5 is an amazing camera but the R6 II just does a bit better job for me.

    Thanks so much for this review- it’s so relevant for me right now as I consider which camera to buy. I do mostly low light portraiture (sunrise and sunset portraiture) AND have hopes to be able to print my images in a large format possibly to exhibit in the future. I’m wondering if you might have any idea how big the R6ii images could be blown up to? And I’m thinking this is still the best option for me with low light portraits. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much :)

    • @ThePhotographerGuy

      Hey! There are probably a lot of variables from viewing distance to the quality of the image captured. That being said, I'm sure you can print pretty large, especially if you take advantage of the enhanced resolution in LR.

    • @nissstanley

      Thanks so much for the reply Ely. I think I’ve overwhelmed myself with reviews and am super confused 🤣 is the enhanced resolution in Lightroom applicable to the r5 images too? I wonder how that would compare as well. Thanks :))

      @@nissstanley here is something to be considered. 50in 4k TV equals 8.3mp to be viewed from distance away. Apple Pro Display XDR 32in 6k monitor equals 18mp. You have to consider how far you are viewing. Like many have said, if you are asking these questions, 20mp is perfect enough. If you want R5, you will want a very sharp lens for full potential.

    I printed some 3mp photos and most thought it was better than GFX100S as the details disappear on a 6 x4 trying to cram 4 football fields of detail into a tiny size. If you just show a cropped image of equal pixels it has to be the same size but what the difference on TV is 2mp still don't see all this comparison am I missing something here so sticking to my Samsung compact camera fixed zoom 30mm to 720mm with tripod can match at 720mm the details of a GFX100S when cropped to the same size

    • @ThePhotographerGuy

      Yes. Totally worth it. It's helped me dial in my editing to help my clients get better results when they print. I use Ink Owl to refill my cartridges. The last round of ink that I bought was $200 and would have costed $1400 to buy the same amount from Canon. I just use it for personal use and gifts to my clients.

      Thanks for answering!! You looks much more strict than myself!jjj If I ever print will be for myself and what scary me more than anything else, apart of the prices is the obsolescence of the software. I used to remember not long time ago when everybody had a print at home and they stopped working suddenly. @@ThePhotographerGuy

    I use canon for my wedding photography. The R5 files are perfect but big. I think the R6ii is the perfect wedding photography camera.
    I also have a Fuji XH2S I sometimes use for weddings but the autofocus is so-so.

      Awesome. I do use cRAW for the R5. I haven't been able to tell a difference from Full RAW files and It reduces the size pretty well.
