No, this video has an important omission: No L-MOUNT-ALLIANCE roar this time 😅 But hey at least it has a joke about PENTAX again, 1:43 "If we relied on specs, and specs alone, to determine how good something is, then would still be in business" 😉
I think it's great to see long term "year later" reviews and thoughts about gear. They are much more meaningful than the initial release marketing hype when a new product comes out. I bought an R5 around late October after its launch and was lucky enough to get it by Christmas. I was switching systems from my MFT gear to full frame. After firmware updates the camera is an absolutely fantastic hybrid camera from Canon. FINALLY! The stills performance is just awesome and the video performance with Canon Log 3 is now great as well. The camera was poo poo'd, rightly in my opinion, from the beginning for the overheating. Canon did the right thing and released firmware to address some of the issues.
I gave the R6 the most demanding autofocus test that I know off. My children playing with swings, normal and rotating ones. Not a single of 300 shots were out of focus. I was blown away knowing how my 6D mk ii fare in the same test.
I got involved with photography full time 20 years ago when i retired. After a lot of research, i decided to shoot with Olympus. I was completely sold on Olympus after spending hours at sea photographing whales. When i got back to y hotel, my camera was completely soaked with salt water. I just took the camera in the shower and ran hot water over it for about 5 minutes before drying it off with a towel. The camera still worked like new. Later, I started photographing ballet on a regular basis. I had just purchased my second Olympus camera, the one with their first electronic viewfinder. Unfortunately, when I tried to track a ballet dancer, the viewfinder was completely unusable. It was so badly blurred I could not see the dancer. At this point I switched to Canon and bought the 5D Mark II, then the Mark III, and now I shoot with the EOS R and the EOS R6. I could not be more pleased with shooting with Canon cameras.
I started off with the 90D then got the R5. I do video recording with the 90D and stills only with the R5. The R5 is simply in a class of its own, i use the 90D for videos..
@@androgeniko LMAO that lens is useless for 95% of the public. Good luck even shooting a model walking towards you. You have to look at the overall picture of what people use cameras for. What do you photograph with your Noct lens?
@@cooloox I do milky way photos that’s why I bought the noct lens. I Also have other lenses for the Z mount and I think nikon nailed it. Altogh we need a more powerfull camera with new processor and minor tweaks to the AF algorithims
My favorite camera to date. It’s a just amazing in areas and balanced in others. It’s only real fault is overheating in 4k60/120. 45mp, 20fps, skin tones, canon app, wireless raw transfer(#1 plus for me), RF glass, 4kHQ, Ergonomics, it’s still the #1 value a year later.
I got my R5 about a month ago and it's just nuts. I just got the RF800 lens and i was capturing still photos of squirrels at 1/250 , hand held and they are razor sharp. I'm so impressed with the stabilization with this camera and RF lenses.
Who told you that ... I mean... The RF lineup is good... But if i compare for example the both 50 1.2... The Canon is not even close... I come from the Canon Universe and wouldn't go back even if Canon would give it for free to me
I made the change from the a7ii to the eos r and I’d say I’m happy but I do fantasize about going back every now and then.maybe when the a7iii goes down in price a little I’ll pick one up.
I have The R5 since last September. I think its the best camera, ever done. I had some issues with Tamron lens, but it was fixed by Tamron, last February. I just love the Camera and its photography.
What issues did you have? I have a mix of Sigma and Tamron lenses and I have not been able to get sharp shots with my R5, but I get perfect tack-sharp shots using the same lenses with my EOS R. Which lenses do yo have and how did Tamron fix the issue?
@@johnneiberger7311 The problems where with two specific lens. Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 G2, and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G2 The problems where thet after a while, the autofocus did not work and i got a red square. The only way to fix it , was by shutting off the camera, taking off the lens. That could happen every 5 minutes, or every camera wake-up. After upgraded the firmware on both lences, the problems disappear.
@@MrDubicz Ah, interesting. That's different from what I'm running into. I've checked for updated firmware in the past, a couple of months ago, but I'll check again. My issue seems to be a problem with IBIS. Shots with fast shutter speeds that should be sharp end up being super soft with a lack of detail. It's pretty odd and frustrating to troubleshoot. I've seen reports of a very small percentage of R5 users reporting a sensor misalignment that leads to something similar to this. Unfortunately, since I'm not using Canon lenses, Canon support won't even open a ticket for it, and I don't really blame them. I'm going to test with some RF glass today. That should prove if it's a lens issue or a sensor issue.
Hey, does the lens IS works in pair with the ibis on your Tamrons ? I’ve been searching this info and couldn’t find it. I have 24-70 g2 and I plan to acquire the R6. Thanks a lot !

I'm a would-be nature photographer. I've had an R5 for a week now and photographing birds in flight is like cheating! To see the autofocus box find the eye of a small bird at a distance is amazing! I've even had it find the eyes on a dragonfly. Stunning tech.
@@FART-REPELLENT Having owned a 7D2 and a 5D4 the build quality is just as good. It's solid. I can pick up the camera with a 500mm F4 attached, by the camera grip, with no fear
I too bought a Canon R5 and am a very satisfied customer. My only complaint is the lack of glass to be found in stock. I had to buy an adapter off ebay to use my ef glass. The R5 is a beast! As for those who complain about 8k, what the hell are you thinking? I have 2 top of the line gaming computers that take forever to process 8k files. It's not practical to process longer videos with file sizes that will only lock up your computer. Camera files are out pacing the ability of computers to edit such media. 4k is the best resolution for the majority. Back to my main reason for buying the R5, the pics are on another level with the autofocus. I think Canon has an edge over Sony with the combination of ef or rf glass plus the autofocus. Just can't be matched. The only real complaint is the battery life. You will need to buy extra batteries for videos or invest in a battery grip. I have 6 batteries now due to taking trips on the weekend only to find out that it takes a long time to recharge one. Don't find yourself without a fully charged battery. I'm wating to see what the newer flagship models bring to the table in terms of specs and performance. Going to be an interesting year to come!
My only gripe on my R6 is the battery life. So I'd definitely agree on that aspect. Other than that, both the R5 and R6 are amazing tools to use for photographers and hobbyists. Bravo, Canon.!!
You don't have a clue what you are talking about trying to edit 8K video with a gaming computer lol. Video editing requires a video editing workstation.
I switched from my Sony A73 to an R5 with 50 1.2 glass based off your review video alone, and have been blown away by the performance. Thank you again for everything Jared!
After using the R5 for over a year, I can safely say that this was the best investment I made into a camera system. Granted though, my first camera was a 6D Mark II and every feature is considered an upgrade. But the R5 made my chances of getting lucky on getting the perfect shot just dumbfounding! I am really impressed with the camera in the stills department and when I dabble in the video, I am immensely impressed by it's capability. Granted though, I only use the video in small samples and I barely use it in general. But having that option to shoot incredible video when primarily using it as a stills camera is incredible!
I agree completely. Cannot say that about Sony A1. The image processing is crude at low ISO, and the lenses are too expensive. I liked Sony back when they were good with NEX. After NEX-7, the quality fell through the cracks, and I don't like that.
I shoot mostly video. I bought an R5 and an RF 28-30. My god, the autofocus is flawless. In the past I would NEVER shoot lower than 4.0 without someone to pull focus. Now I’ll shoot 2.0 all by myself. Also, overheating has never been a problem.
Still probably the best camera to date. Even beats Sonys A1 considering prize and especially the lenses (and if you don’t need any specific A1 features, the r5 actually beats it in many aspects from video quality, stable frame rates auto focus etc ). I really like that canon is even improving on it via updates like adding vehicle detecting that just came out for the R3. But as mentioned above, probably even better are the lenses. Those alone are worth getting this camera. The unique ones like the Rf 28-70 f2 or the 70-200 f2.8 which only exist here are probably the best lenses in the market to get. Yes it’s expensive. But for the ones looking for extraordinary quality not found anywhere else, they will find it here. Regarding heat problem I also find that overly exaggerated. I guess some just tried to find something to criticize even if it didn’t make sense. But who is actually able to record 8k raw for 10 minutes when the file size is gigantic? And who record a single cut with 20 minutes? Everyone who actually does will get a dedicated video device like an c70 anyway. Definitely glad getting this camera and after over a year of using it professionally, I actually just ordered a second one..
What is amazing about the R5 is aside from sensor size, it is the only camera on the market as of 2022 that can legitimately compete with the almost flawless performance and imaging quality you would get from a Phase One or RED camera, which cost as much as a new car (such as Chevrolet Cruze). Phase One or RED require little skill to learn and easy to setup, but the size is intimidating and uncomfortable so portability is unfit for the casual user even if can be afforded. May be more geared for a camera crew, and yes, you usually see Canon more often as a secondary camera when the modular equipment is undesirable, and Nikon a close second. Some Nikon DSLRs can give great results, but you may be paying quite a bit more.
I just got my R5 from Allen’s Camera and I’m very happy with it! My Mark 3 is now retired as my backup camera. I didn’t get any RF lenses, instead I got the Controller Adapter Ring to use my EF lenses and it’s been flawless.
Love my two R5's! I have shot weddings for 11 years on many Canon cameras including 1D X and 1DXII. My R5's are the best Canon cameras I have every used, the R5 glass is best in the industry.
to give perspective (follow up) Camera over heating might be something we have to get used for a while (unless they get really good ARM CPUs...maybe) I have the Sony A7S3. And filming outside, in the sun, in 1080p 30fps, 4.2.2 10bit it WILL over heat and shut down in a couple hours. (not constant recording) I have been getting in the habit of holding my camera and putting it in the shade when not recording.
“I Shoot RAW” “Boom!” I think I can make some sense of Canon not opening up the RF mount to third party manufacturers. Canon’s existing EF glass inventory is clearing itself out, and selling for premium prices in several cases.
I'm a Sony shooter for video and photos but it's really nice to have viable mirrorless cameras from Canon to keep the mirrorless trend rolling forward. I don't hesitate to recommend the R5 and R6 to people who are already in the Canon ecosystem when they are looking to upgrade. I think the biggest downside right now for Canon is the lack of 3rd party glass. They really need to open that up to allow a variety of lens options for everyone.
Canon asserted recently again that they perceive 3rd party support as "competition", rather than a welcome complement. That's the main reason why I'm not going to consider Canon (nor Nikon Z for the same reason).
Not sure if you heard but the R5 has had a little bit of an overheating problem. I fried an egg one time on the flip out screen and it actually was pretty useful that way. It’s a multi tool not just a fashion statement
Just picked up the R5 today. If the camera was released today with current firmware it would be seen as one of the GOATS. Canon refurbished at $2399 is a steal.
I'm supposed to buy the Canon R6, I shoot primarily weddings which lasts all day, could you tell me more about the overheating for video. I'll be shooting candids. Also have you'll used the atomos ninja v?
@@enochdias53 fhd no Problem at all, 4K won’t last long, even with external recording. GREAT Quality, love this camera, but the 4K overheating really sucks. Should have bought the r5, you’ll get like unlimited Record time in 4K with external recording.
@@enochdias53 same for me, if fhd is enough for you get the r6. You can shoot 4K but you have to expect it to overheat every minute. After 2 minutes cool Down you are able to go fhd again, of course 4K needs longer. What I heard about the r5 is that it should be capable of 4K External about 3 to 4hours
fully agree on the AF. Who cares if the mechanical parts of the camera are better? It lets me invest more time and energy into the art of photography. More accurate AF also means taking and reviewing fewer copies of the same shot because some might not be in focus
Totally agree that Canon should open up the RF mount to third-party lens makers, although it is quite nice that the RF->EF adapter basically solves for this for the time being. As usual, great and balanced review, thank you!
but didnt third party manufactures like samyang already made RF lenses? the Samyang 85mm f1.4 RF and 14mm f2.8 RF are only around 600-700$ and are great.
The IBIS and IS does work good. I’ve been able to hand hold shots with the R5 and RF100-500 at 500mm at 1/60 and got great sharp images. The only complaint I really have with the R5 is the size, even with the grip I wish it was a little bigger.
I have just jumped from my 1DX/7D2 combo to an R5..I find it was like getting of a bus and jumping on the Starship Enterprise. Everything you said was bang on. No regrets. The autofocus has just made taking wildlife so much easier. Great review.
i love the R5 after upgrading it from the EOS R . I dropped the 24-105 F4 with the R and started looking at RF glass . the problems is when you have a mix of RF and EF glass and changing then in the fly is a pain unless you have several adaptors to keep on the EF ones LOL so RF28-70 was my first WOW love it. RF70-200 F2.8 second . RF100-500 OMG this is ace to focus at 1.2mtrs when at 500mm gives a beautiful image (IMO ) next the RF100 Macro and later either the RF15-35 f2.8 or RF14-35 F4 Ive got to wait for cash but also to find out how good the F4 is . and then im done well at least till a second hand RF85 F1.2 LOL but I dont need that just want
I love my R5. I've had everything from a 20D up through the 1DX Mark II and the R5 is just another step above. It's helped me kick my side business into high gear and I love it!
GREAT REVIEW! honestly respect it so much when people come back after a long time use. I am hoping to upgrade to the R5 from the R in the next year or so. (hopefully when the price of the body and cards goes for lower)
I’m using the Samyang RF 85 1.4 and LOVE it for doing headshots and portraits. Canon may not have given them permission but they managed a decent job regardless.
@@pdot3972 I absolutely love it. I’ve put it through it’s paces shooting photos in RAW, as well as video in 4k and 8k using the CF-Express cards and it kicks butt. The 8k shuts down after 45 min due to overheating, and that’s with using a grip. The low light capabilities are very good too. I do want to do more astrophotography with it to compare with my previous Sony A7SII, but I’m very impressed all around. A screen that flips front would be cool, but I’m looking at getting a Ninja external recorder anyway so it’s not a big need. Soon I’ll be shooting 50MP shots of the surface of the sun with an h-alpha filter, so that’s going to be sweet. The camera simply does everything great, it’s the 007 of cameras, really.
I do photography full time for a product company, I convinced them to upgrade this year from 5DmarkIII with 24-105 f4 and 50mm f2.8 macro to the R5 paired a 28-70 f2 and 85 f2 macro. The change has been incredible, it is an outstanding set up for the product photography work I do. I shoot on a Sony A7RIII for my personal work - which I think I still prefer over the R5, however, I am getting some strong 28-70 f2 envy and the R5 is the best way to take advantage of it.
About a week ago I decided it was finally time to upgrade from my 1DX Mark I. And there was no question what that that next camera would be - the Mark III, of course. Now here I am, just a few days of research later, and it's looking more and more like I'll be joining the masses and going mirrorless. R5 here I come. Wish me luck, and thanks for the great review.
It would be a nice touch if you could have added some quick remarks near the end regarding the EOS-R, the R6, or the RP as entry points to the R system. The R5 is amazing, but for a budget shooter, or a hobbyist, or someone else just starting out, given the high cost of Canon R glass, are the lower tier cameras, with their less advanced specs, a good entry point, or are they too much of a compromise, and too hamstrung ? Especially when compared to say starting out in the Sony or Nikon ecosystem?
I really appreciated this video about real life usage and review of a camera after 1 year of heavy use. Also very useful to compare it including the software updates, the new lenses, and the general advances in technologies. Thank you very much for this work
I just want to say that continuous recording is NOT necessary to overheat your camera. If you're trying to shoot outside on a sunny day, eg for wildlife, if it gets up to around 90 you're going to get overheating very fast regardless.
I own an R5 since the very beginning. Price that time 4500€. I would by this model again today if needed, the price is quite dropping due to the arrival of R5 Mark II. I'm shootimg 4k video only, I don't need 8k.And you need a powerful computer to edit in 8K. I never had regrets buying this camera. Just the lenses... very pricy too. So I use my older EF-lenses with the adapter and it is fine. Firmware updates are making the R5 more complete, just hating that 29:59 minutes limit. Maybe Canon will do a miracle.
I do not understand why so many people complain about the one hour recording time limit. It is my thought that anyone having the need to shoot for more than one hour should look into purchasing either the ATOMOS Ninja 5 or the ATOMOS Ninja Flame. I originally purchased the Ninja Flame, but then purchased the Atomos5 because of it’s smaller size. While these units are not inexpensive, in the scheme of photography components, you get a lot for your money.
People need to write to Nvidia and amd to complain to have hardware accelerated support for H.265 10bit 4:2:2. It needs to be a group effort. Gamers don't need that format. Scientists don't need that format. Crypto miners don't need that format. We do. If there is no demand, they won't add it.
What sort of ambient temperatures are you shooting in mate , this is a point most reviewers rarely mention, in an air conditioned studio its probably better , if you are shooting in a warm/hot climate , how will it go ?
@@mikldude9376 if in hot weather, 8k,4khq, and 4k120 will overheat after half an hour of recording, 4k cropped mode will get you near 4khq quality but it will never ever overheat. Regular 4k will not overheat either. And to remove worries, there is a commercial mod where they replace the heatsink of the camera for $400. That will double recording times and halve recovery time. I've never had overheating problems but I plan my shoots well.
Really loving my 2x R5’s - I don’t really do video except for the odd 4K HQ clip here and then... definitely agree about the RF glass / sharpness / colour, and ability to shoot reliably at 1.2 I won’t be upgrading bodies again for a long time, instead investing more in other gear like RF glass and lighting
I’m kind of sitting between Sony and Canon at the moment. I love wide primes for my work. Canon is keeping us waiting a long time for any releases from them, and it’s a frustration there’s no serious third party coverage. Meanwhile on Sony, the 20 1.8 is my favourite lens. Decisions…
In many ways the R5 is the mirrorless D850 that Nikon still fails to make. I'm getting one by the end of this year unless the Z8 convinces me otherwise, which I doubt.
I have been a Nikon shooter since the mid 80's. My last purchase was a Z7II last spring. Great sensor, wonderful pictures, soso autofocus.... Had all my gear stolen a few weeks ago. 1st time looking at Canon and Sony and can see where I will likely not be a Nikon shooter again. Thanks for the great video, have watched many of them. The R5 is looking very tasty... I wish they would get 3rd party glass, same with Nikon. Don't want to carry adapters if I don't need to.... I have become spoiled by the amazing technology we have....
Canon didn't open the EF mount to third parties, either. Sigma, Tamron, Samyang, etc. had to reverse engineer their lenses to work with the EF mount, with AF being a complicated facet of that design. Eye AF and IBIS complicate that design further when reverse-engineering RF lenses. That's why most other third party lenses are MF only; and as the body won't actually recognize the lens, you have to set "release shutter without lens" to even use them. Samyang only makes two RF lenses. They both have AF, but no IS; so you have to turn on the R5/R6 IBIS manually and you'll have fewer stops of stabilization. Samyang's AF isn't up to the Canon lenses, from the mixed reviews I see on B&H. Sigma and Tamron, the big boys among third parties, are taking their time to get it right.
@@bozmundarts2614 yeah, Sony ventured into FF mirrorless with an early focus on bodies, and found themselves wanting for lenses. They opened the E mount to lens developers out of necessity. Canon did the reverse with a lens-centric approach. Then everyone's like "where are the bodies to go with these pro lenses?" And here we are.
Bought the R5 yesterday. Got it set up and tried it out today on some sea gulls. Main issue is the start up lag time of the electronic viewfinder. What I mean is when you quickly raise the camera to shoot something, there is such a delay in the viewfinder coming to life that you miss the shot. So, let's say you're shooting sports and moving to another spot or just not much happening in front of you. Then you see something about to come into play. You quickly raise the camera to your eye and all you see is black for a split second until it lights up. But in that split second, you missed the shot. In shooting my 1DX or any DSLR, this is never a problem. Very frustrating. It doesn't look like you can keep the viewfinder on either. Not that I would want to because of battery drain. Now what?
Loving my R5 too. By far the best camera I have ever owned, including at least one other that cost more than the R5. Jared (or anyone who knows), can you refer me to which video explains the focus settings/modes used for sports photography?
Jared, we need an updated "Canon EOS R5 "Two YEARS Later" REVIEW...does it hold up?" - especially after using the camera with FW v1.6!! Only one major flaw remaining: 29:59 record limit! Doesn't the photography community have enough clout to make Canon issue this change in their next FW release? Obviously not - so far...
R5 ranks as best value for high end DSLR mirrorless for sure. Sure the Sony A1 beats it out spec wise....for almost 3 grand more. I've had my R5 now since DEC and now have 4 good RF lenses and I'm totally satisfied. I'd do it again....even same lenses. YT has helped quite a bit on the learning curve also! Thanks Fro!
Great video, clearly Sony has won over most of the youtube crew this generation. I have been very happy with mine when I finally got my order in September. It is a really great stills camera and a good video camera. I agree that the lens choices are limited to the platform right now. I only have had one overheating issue in my use.
Thank you for this follow-up Jared. I do primarily landscape and architecture photography and love making gigantic prints. I'm still using a 5DsR, and have a fortune of EF glass. For mirrorless I'm still using a Sony A7r3. For some reason I haven't gotten myself to fully commit to the Sony system, and on the Canon side I have a stroke every time I calculate how much it would cost to switch over to the R5. Maybe if and when a R5 mk 2 becomes a thing I'll be ready to take the plunge. I'll keep getting my Fro news fix until then.
I have over 10k in EF glass, and $0 in RF glass. With the R5 and EF adapter, I feel zero need to buy RF glass. I imagine I’ll get some RF lenses eventually, but right now, the R5 has given new life to my EF glass.
I really love the R5 as well. For my channel videos I only ever use regular 4K, but the 120fps full frame 4k is so awesome. I've never had overheating at all. And the IBIS adds stability to my favorite 24-70mm ii with clarity almost as good as the 5DSR. Really hard to beat!
Your videos are awesome. I was not sure if should get the Sony or the Canon but after your video, I'm definitely going for the Sony. Canon is good but my photography recommended the Sony so thanks for helping me decide.
Pretty much. I shoot birds, thought about the A1, felt it was overpriced and in the end went with the R5. It was just hard to ignore when the R5 dropped to close to the US$3.5K mark which meant the A1 was pushing double of that. And the performance difference? Let's just say I didn't feel it was worth such a massive premium. The animal AF and tracking is really as good as advertised. The images the R5 render are just beautiful. I don't shoot videos, so all that overheating fiasco didn't bother me the slightest in reality. The only issue with the R5 is the lack of a quality and reasonably priced superzoom. The RF 100-500mm is simply a rip-off in my opinion. In fact, I just checked the price last week and it actually went up if you can believe that. In the meantime, the Sony FE 200-600mm's price point has dropped to less than 1/2 of that of the RF 100-500mm which is just insane considering you are paying more than double for 100mm less focal length, a smaller maximum aperture of f/7.1 when wide open and an inferior external zoom with a much stiffer and longer throw which is simply terrible when it comes to BIF.
Jared! Great vid, it helped me decide on the R5. I am coming from two 5dMKIVs, what would be the best choice for a backup camera? (Besides another R5) I am Canon still shooter and SONY for video (70/30) Thanks! I appreciate you...
I am a Nikon shooter, I shot Canon before that and I changed when the D810 was released and subsequently I got the D850, a camera that I still love to use. One thing with Canon that set me back was the dynamic range which seems to be improved in the R5. I a glad that Canon is back strong and I just hope Nikon eventually will come out with something similar to the A1 or a Fuji 100s for landscape photographers. I got the Z6II as a second body but I am not a big fan. I like mirrorless just not a big fan of the z6II .
Absolutely outstanding is an understatement. Autofocus in low light is amazing because it is a DSLR with pentaprism (which is what made DSLRs ideal for speed where P&S are 'slow' at expense of fitting into a pocket), something I cannot do with Fujifilm X-T3, for instance. Recording in 8K yields phenomenal results albeit 1 GB every several seconds, so you should consider 256 GB or larger capacity memory card, and be careful it is not a forged Chinese type... R5 is inexpensive compared to Sony A1, and to be frank, the price point and aggressive noise reduction paired with an expensive lens is unacceptable. If battery life is more important over image quality, then Panasonic is the best option.
I am the proud owner of the EOS R and usrp and I'm very satisfied with the things he can provide me and when this one comes to the USR and I am looking forward to get some more RF glass the only RF glass I have at the moment is the 35mm I would like you to make a video for people on a budget professionals on a budget for work but let's say I'm not in the most I'm in developing country so can't
I’m glad to see that Canon stuck with the R5 and continued to improve it post-release. I’m a Sony A7S III shooter, and when you compared the R5’s video capabilities to the A7S III, the latter achieved much greater usability for video because of the reduced overheating. However, the A7S III doesn’t have a 45MP sensor, so it is much less of a photo camera by comparison. Canon did a great job with the R5, and I think we can confidently say that they are finding their stride in the mirrorless market. It will only get better over time as the RF lens ecosystem expands-hopefully to third party lenses in the next few years.
Was going to get the R5 but went with the Leica SL2. Best for what I do. Very very happy with the system. And yea, only one Leica lens a 75mm APO SL, and a Sigma 45 2.8. Totally tapped out but worth it at least to me.
As a Sony shooter, I'm impatient waiting for the R3 and super tempted to sell my e-mount glass and grab an R5 just because of how much better Canon handles skin tones.
What's up with all those ''does it hold up'' and ''is it still good'' videos for cameras that are barely one, two, three years old?! R5 is a god damn, one year old camera... Of-f*cking-course it still ''holds up...'' If my 1DXll and my D3X still ''hold'' up and beat most of the competition, still to this day, then a two, three year old camera should not even be questioned...
Great video. I got Stuck with Canon since 2003 (Powershot A80) moving thru, 50D, 6D, 7D, 70D, 80D and more recently the EOSR. I was considering the EOSR5 but the price and my current work situation prohibited it. I am getting great shots from the EOSr with my EF lenses (100-400mm, Sigma 1.4 Art 70-200 2.8 etc) and think that's still a factor, they work well. My one disappointment was that in certain situation my Fuji X100s blows it out of the water and I keep wondering how my fuji shots can be better than my new £2500 camera!!!?????
I just watched the video, this was a good video lol!!!
It's a great video! Looking forward to taking my new R5 to Jackson Hole this week!
I watched it at 2x as I have no plans to exit Nikon and found that it was easier to watch...lololol Still a good video though.

Agree! A 1-year revisit is an excellent idea!
Wanting to move to r5 from my M4T camera's. What is your current set-up now?

I really love my R5, best camera purchase I've ever made!

Damn sounds like some great squirrel photos ha
I switched from a Sony a7r4 to the R5 and glad I did. Nothing wrong with the Sony but Canon glass is superior, so glad I switched.

Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 G2, and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G2
The problems where thet after a while, the autofocus did not work and i got a red square.

I've used an R5 and an R6 for videos and highly recommend them. They can always be rented, I do.

Last talk , portrait beast A1 or R5 ?
I shoot mostly video. I bought an R5 and an RF 28-30. My god, the autofocus is flawless. In the past I would NEVER shoot lower than 4.0 without someone to pull focus. Now I’ll shoot 2.0 all by myself. Also, overheating has never been a problem.
You mean the 28-70 2.0?
Did you shoot 8K or 4KHQ for extended time >30 minutes without overheating though?
"RF 28-30"? 😂
I think Sony matches or exceeds Canon's glass at this point, barring the F2 28-70
I have an R5 and an R. I must say this has been my all time favorite combination of gear ever. Canon did such a great job of their mirrorless bodies!

to give perspective (follow up) Camera over heating might be something we have to get used for a while (unless they get really good ARM CPUs...maybe) I have the Sony A7S3. And filming outside, in the sun, in 1080p 30fps, 4.2.2 10bit it WILL over heat and shut down in a couple hours. (not constant recording) I have been getting in the habit of holding my camera and putting it in the shade when not recording.
“I Shoot RAW” “Boom!”
I think I can make some sense of Canon not opening up the RF mount to third party manufacturers.
Canon’s existing EF glass inventory is clearing itself out, and selling for premium prices in several cases.
I've been shooting my R5 since last July here in Vegas, outside mostly hot (avg 110°) or cold (avg 45°), it's been solid.
@@tubularificationed I think Sony had the right approach to that buying partial ownership of Tamron.

It would be a nice touch if you could have added some quick remarks near the end regarding the EOS-R, the R6, or the RP as entry points to the R system. The R5 is amazing, but for a budget shooter, or a hobbyist, or someone else just starting out, given the high cost of Canon R glass, are the lower tier cameras, with their less advanced specs, a good entry point, or are they too much of a compromise, and too hamstrung
? Especially when compared to say starting out in the Sony or Nikon ecosystem?

It stills overheats with a Ninja. You have to cripple it and turn the LCD off to get longer shooting times. Meh
Thank you for sharing this review!! The R5 sounds like a great unit! Will you do something similar for the R6?
I have 2 R5's and have never experienced overheating. My only gripe is the 30 minute return limit and the dreadful proxy workflow in 4k HQ.

If Canon didn’t open the rf mount to the third party, why can samyang keep producing auto focus rf lenses? It doesn’t make sense
They reverse engineered the mount themselves.
@@JohnDrummondPhoto damn... i had absolutely no idea-
@@bozmundarts2614 yeah, Sony ventured into FF mirrorless with an early focus on bodies, and found themselves wanting for lenses.
Now what?
So my question is, why not also use Sony video cameras like the a7s, most of which have no overheating problems?
Thanks Fro!
Sony a9 is best value in my opinion. Even if you don’t take cost of glass into the equation.
Usual great quality balanced view.
Do my first search for a video on this camera.... you upload one less than an hour ago.... here we go:)
Your videos are awesome. I was not sure if should get the Sony or the Canon but after your video, I'm definitely going for the Sony. Canon is good but my photography recommended the Sony so thanks for helping me decide.
Skittles is also my favorite preset for color.
Which fropack is skittle in?

Canon quality is superb
Could not agree more on the denoise. I also never use noise reduction on anything. I'd rather have the sharp grain look.
I’ve been spending way too much money over at Printique. Thank you for telling me about it. ✌️❤️
The Z6II is a great camera but it really feels a bit like gap filler
It will only get better over time as the RF lens ecosystem expands-hopefully to third party lenses in the next few years.
buy an A7RIV then. Much more robust than the R5, and cheaper.
People don't seem to appreciate the latest technology as much as they should
Right but they are itching like a dog to get new tech!
What's up with all those ''does it hold up'' and ''is it still good'' videos for cameras that are barely one, two, three years old?!
R5 is a god damn, one year old camera... Of-f*cking-course it still ''holds up...''
If my 1DXll and my D3X still ''hold'' up and beat most of the competition, still to this day, then a two, three year old camera should not even be questioned...
@@nogerboher5266 lol yeah! I agree. I’m shooting on a 1diii and as much as I want to say it doesn’t hold up it still does all the way from 2007… 😆
Great video.
