My explanation for the Shadow Mario thing is that he isn't weak to water, he's weak to water pressure. FLUDD's spraying what's basically a fire hose at him.
Exactly what I was going to say, shadow Mario is not vulnerable to water itself but the pressure caused by spraying him
Or maybe it's classic Game Logic.
Shadow Mario has Mario's moveset without FLUDD, so he can swim.
But he needs to be vulnerable in a way that isn't cumbersome.
So they made him vulnerable to Mario main means of attacking, the FLUDD Water Cannon.
The water that is sprayed and the water to swim in are differently coded, hence why the two have entirely different effects.
In the end, it's just a game. A game set in a cartoon world no less.
It doesn't have to follow the same logic as our real world.

Cheesing the stars isn't an inconsistency to me, it's what makes this game so good. You can go the planned route, but you can also try to do some difficult jumps in the right angle and use risky shortcuts. It's the reason this game was speedrunned this much, because you can be very creative with how you get these stars.

Cheating = Using cheatcodes and hacks to alternate the game experience
Cheesing = Use the game mechanics itself to make things easier for you. An example would be, if a boss can't reach a certain spot on the battlefield and you make yourself comfortable there and shoot him with arrows for 10 minutes, just to avoid direct combat.
@@fredstolperman2785 Yeah, but they're pretty much unintentional. Plus using those routes doesn't really make sense. Say, Rocket Storage or passing through walls.
The point of cheesing is that it makes it easier though. Sure, there are stars that have difficult shortcuts, but the ones shown in the video are far easier than doing it the legitimate way.

I assumed the whole point was to simply make Shadow Mario trip when spraying him with water. It makes sense because he gets back up if you dont talk to him after knocking him down.
Doesnt matter how good you are at swimmimg, you can still slip on a puddle.
It's a game where a fat plumber wears a backpack that sprays water while cleaning an island shaped like a dolphin.

The end of what Korporal K. Reel said is kind of a reference that another game franchise named Touhou is even used in modern day Japan whereas in Touhou everything is old fashioned. There is a saying in one Touhou game, named Subterranean Animism, that a boss/playable character says there is no common sense in Gensokyo, which used to be part of the outside world aka the real world.

In Mario Sunshine, the reason why Yoshi's weakness is water is because he was created from Bowser jr's paint brush.

There's literally NO proof to this. If you're going to pull lore out of your rectum for an explanation, it'd make more sense to claim Delfian Yoshis are unique in that they have this water weakness. Another unique trait would be their unwillingness to help unless they are fed.

That is a pretty cool & believable theory. Mine theory was that the water at Delfino Plaza was so polluted that it killed local wildlife like Yoshi.

It’s actually explained that the piantas don’t take damage from the goop because the soles of their feet are resistant to it. It’s either in the game manual or a player guide somewhere.

Ok this one I have an actual answer on. In the Japanese version he was called Koopa not Bowser. So for him to say Bowser isn't true to his Japanese name so it was changed. Here's a full link as of why

Yeah, shindou edition was never released here. It was a Japanese only game. But that's what they used for 3D All-Stars for some reason.

I would consider "cheesing" a star would be finding an intuitive and simpler way to get the star. I personally think both methods shown in Sunshine were extremely nonintuitive, and would classify those as glitches rather than cheesing.

They did not have enough time to get Super Mario Galaxy 2 featured in Super Mario 3D All Stars. As according to OatmealDome on Twitter, who actually pulled and complied the code off this collection. It first started off being made in Nintendo of Japan around February or March of 2020. But due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, they had to give it to Nintendo of Europe to work on it, as they are better prepared for doing work-at-home jobs than they are. They only had 6 months to get it released and finished. Super Mario Galaxy was already ported to the Nvidia Shield in 2018 for Mainland China, which uses similar hardware to the Switch. Basically, the heavy lifting on that was already done, so it was pretty easy to get that on there. But the problem is, Super Mario Galaxy 2 would need a lot more extra time to do additional programming and upscaling, and they didn't have time to get that featured.
That doesn't mean that the other two games had some slight changes either, of course it did. In fact, they are modified emulated versions rather than new ports. Super Mario 64 is the Shinodu version of the game, which for the first time ever, is translated to English. And was upscaled to 720p for both TV and handheld modes. But they didn't make it widescreen sadly. And with regards to Super Mario Sunshine, it was easy to get the game upscaled to 1080p and have its' ratio updated to be made in 16:9 widescreen. Because it was a disc-based game. However, they also had to change the controls a bit too, such as making the R Button to squirt with FLUDD and standing still, while the ZR Button lets you use FLUDD while moving.
As far as rumors go, it's been said that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is to be a free DLC in December. But I don't trust that given it was from a leak that can be considered false. And why would they include that on there, if this is to be a limited release until March 31, 2021?
For the last part I would assume because parents could buy their kids the game and having a new game would probably increase sales
For the Yoshi water weakness, it's explained in the instruction manual, these Yoshi you find on isle Delfino hate water, they are not the regular Yoshi you find on Dinosaur Island (SMW) or Space Yoshi (Galaxy2). Also, I think it's probably why there no green Yoshi too.
Even as a kid, I caught onto Shadow Mario being able to swim even though he's weak to water. And it still makes no sense.
6:03 I'd argue the thing that makes less sense is how Bowser and Junior were further down than Mario in the cutscene despite Mario having fallen much farther before that tub even tipped.

I love how they ignore including Galaxy 2, when it is the canonical Galaxy game, since 1's events were removed at the end of it, but 2's weren't.

Maybe it's not the water that Shadow Mario is vulnerable to, but rather the *pressure* of the water from F.L.U.D.D. I mean yeah it doesn't look it hurts, but I'd imagine it has the same pressure as a fire hose.
Also Yoshi's water weakness is apparently explained by the Mario Encyclopedia (I think) that a lot of the enemies and even the Yoshi Eggs are made from Shadow Mario's brush
That would mean Shadow Mario is less durable than Peach, toads, piantas, nokis, flowers, & somehow Bowser Jr.

3D land really only works with the Dual Screen that the 3DS had, I think you’re right, that and most other DS/3DS games will never be ported over the the switch

Bowser doesnt want Junior to know he is KIDNAPPING A WOMAN so he lies and tells Junior that Peach is his mom, an that Mario is the kidnapper. Yes it is wrong that he doesnt tell Junior his actions. But on the other hand, you wouldnt expect to have a conversation like "Dad whos that?" "Oh its just a woman i kidnapped" with your father.
If Bowser wants to be a vilian he can't give into guilt. I like villians where, like me, their sense of remorse is none existent.

The BLJ removal is because it uses the second release of the Japanese game. It's also why a few voice lines are different.

For me, I'd say Shadow Mario having a water weakness but being able to swim isn't a contradiction because I imagine he's more being hurt by high pressure water than water itself. Being in a swimming pool doesn't hurt you but getting sprayed by a fire hose would and considering Fludd can shoot water with enough force to keep Mario in the air, I imagine getting sprayed by it would hurt.

Fun fact: Isle Delfino has so many dolphin-shaped things in it because the GameCube was initially called the Dolphin.

Well if you look at it, at the surface it doesn’t make sense. However, since most of his attacks are oil paint based, it makes sense he isn’t hurt by normal running water. Oil paint takes forever to work with sometimes, so unless you’re meaning to just clean it, taking a dip in the water isn’t gonna do much. The reason he’s hurt by FLUDD is cause it’s high propulsion.
Addressing Shadow Mario and water. You're hitting him with pressurized water, something that can be used to cut through steal and yet a Boat will still float at sea. I never saw issue with this and I don't know why people think it's inconsistent.

The yoshis are made from the same magic paintbrush that E. Gadd made. This explains why they can’t swim in water, can inexplicably shoot juice from their mouth, and disperse into paint bubbles like other enemies.

The pianta don’t get hurt because the have special soles on their feet to protect them. After clearing the goop, talk to the pianta and he will explain.
The Pianta doesn't get hurt because the goop is sweet, like candy. Mario probably gets damaged because of the cavities. :)

The cheesing stars bit is called sequence breaking, and you can do this in almost any game

Also the "most stars can be cheesed around" then only shows 3 out of 120 in 64, 2 out of 120 in sunshine, and only 1 out of 121 stars in galaxy, meaning legally a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of something is most
1:09 and 1:15 are both answered the same way. The water isn’t hurting Shadow Mario. Rather, it’s the water pressure. The Spray Nozzle is forceful enough to destroy a Bullet Bill, so a close-range spray would definitely hurt.
Yoshis are weak to water in sunshine because it's believed that the real yoshis lived on isle delfino long ago and then left. The ones you see in game are actually fabricated by bowser jr's magic brush, and therefore made of paint and have a weakness to water.
The piantas have a special coating under their feet that prevents them from getting hurt by the electric goop. One of them actually tells you this I think in the scrubbing sirena beach mission if you talk to them. Doesn't really make sense since they fall into any other type of goop, but yeah
I don't think shadow Mario is weak to water. I think he's weak to fludds water pressure. Think about it, its able to lift Mario off the ground without anything underneath him. That's pretty high pressure

Some are explained, so long King Bowser line is different because in Japan he is only called by the name king Koopa and not Bowser. The speed back jump Glitch was already changed in a newer version back in the day, so they used that version of sm64.

Fun fact: in mario 64 as we all know you can cancel fall damage by kicking or ground pounding and it's a glitch, but did you know that in the DS remake a toad mentions it and tells you to use it? Nintendo WANTS you to use the glitch. Kinda like that objective in Minecraft where you need to glitch yourself with the elytra to achieve it.

The guy actually says why he isn't affected by the goop in Hotel Delphino if you talk to him. I think it was something about his sandals protecting him from the electricity, but I can't remember if that's exactly it.
And yoshi is never green bedside when he is almost out of juice and when he despawns
I think somewhere it's explained that the Yoshis in Super Mario Sunshine aren't true Yoshis, but instead are made of the paint goop used by Shadow Mario which is why they melt in water.
I won't question game design but even so the fire flower and ice flower having time limits in mario galaxy made sense at the time and makes sense even now

The reason Yoshi disintegrates in water is because he was made with Shadow Mario's paint brush. Yoshi's have gone extinct on Isle Delfino according to the News ticker on the bottom.
I never heard this until I got older so I can't provide a quality source on this.

This one I can explain, the version of Mario 64 in 3D all stars is the shindou version. It removed the BLJ, and the so long king bowser, because at that time in Japan bowser was known as king koopa. And the shindou version was the only version with rumble, and I guess Nintendo wanted to put rumble in all the games but I guess they didn’t have to for Mario 64, because a version of Mario 64 already has rumble, which would be the shindou version.
Also the line it's only iconic because people missheard it and thought it said something else, so the line it's not really iconic if you think about it.
