MISSED/CORRECTED SECRETS AND EASTER EGGS
1. You Press the Z (ZL/ZR) Buttons to get the mario faces, not the shoulder buttons
2.The coin in Snowmans land CAN be collected by using the canon
3.I mention that "low poly mario" happens when a lot going on, in the game but its more so when the camera is too far away from Mario (like in boss fights)
4.Theres an additional one up in Bowser in the dark world that spawns after you beat Bowser in the fire sea ( th-cam.com/video/HpdVhp97yJc/w-d-xo.html )
5. If you press b while flying you can control mario a bit better
6. Bowsers little "Dance" where he swipes his hands back and forth only happens in the shindou/switch versions of the game

The bridge that you can climb in bob omb battlefield, you can also go through it if you go to the lowest point. Mario will pull himself into it
Another mystery for me is this: Jolly Roger Bay and Jolly Roger Lagoon are those two somehow connected🤔. I always had a thought cause banjo kazooie beta was connected to dk 64 so maybe banjo tooie is connected to SM64

Wet dry world is so mysterious, and the background gives it a sort of ancient or lost relic feel. Such a creepy and awesome stage -- and annoying as hell lol.

Agree to everything, except the "annoying". I did feel a little bummed that it didn't have the water theme though, at first. But the cave theme is great too, and I've come to think that it actually fits better.

There’s another Easter egg were if you race the Penguin on cool cool mountain, and take the shortcut that leads to the 1UP, he’ll say you cheated and not give you a star

Easter egg- if you enter wet dry world with the water high, you can jump over the rail that leads to the city.
Has anyone tried getting a game over after getting 100 lives from yoshi? That would be amazing if that gave you an Easter egg
another secret is the got milk bottle in wet dry world after getting 120 stars
The one where the clock at certain spots makes stuff move at different speeds, for the longest time I thought my N64 wasn't processing it right, but on my wii and switch it did the same thing, after all these years I finally know why.
It's amazing to me how I knew all these secrets before TH-cam even existed. Even though TH-cam is super useful for pretty much anything I still miss my old life without the internet.

I lost so many lives trying to jump down to where the cannon was in Tall, Tall Mountain! Knowledge of that warp spot would have saved so much time/grief
It's actually fairly easy to get that star without even using the cannon. I know that for a fact because I had to do that on my first playthrough, because I couldn't for the life of me get the cannon to align properly. I was pretty bad at games at the time and still managed to pull it off.
In case you wonder, the way I did it is by long-jumping from the rolling log in its rightmost position. But you can probably also make the jump from the very top of the mountain.
And I discovered that warp by accident. )
Oh, and the "Wing Cap painting" is also used as an actual proper jumpable painting as well. It's used for Rainbow Ride and Red Coins Over the Rainbow. I think the Wing Cap entrance is just a secondary reuse.
I always thought that when Mario is fighting Bowser and he throws him, he said “so long sea donkey” 😂

So I never played this as a kid, and I keep just learning more and more, I’ve never finished the game either, I finally picked it up with switch online’s 64 package, gotta say. I definitely missed out
Correction:The Wet Dry World background is actually a photo of Yemen, Shibam city.The mosque at the top of the city is the Pasha mosque from Egypt, Cairo.
Nobody ever talks about yoshi saying "IT that really you" instead of "IS that really you" I noticed it on the 64 many years ago and it's still the same for the switch version. Also the triple jump you get actually negates fall damage. Pretty cool, do it off the castle.
I never played this much at the time, I had a wasted youth on goldeneye and a bit of perfect dark, waverace excitebike pilotwings. Ahhh pointless nostalgia

Great video, as a kid I found out that you can get on top of the castle before you beat the game. Go to the right side corner of the castle and wall bounce back and forth from the castle and hill.
Little extra trivia about Wet Dry World is jumping into the painting at the fullest is the only way to get the water at its highest. The switch doesnt get it as high as jumping in does

One secret that has never been found yet is the "Ghoul Medal"... This thing is mentioned on a sign outside the Big Boo's mansion in Big Boo's Haunt. Maybe it does not exist but maybe it does and nobody found it yet... Who knows...
Been playing this game on DS for years. Didn't know this stuff. How cool. On the DS when you ground pound the stumps you get coins. I've went around them and got nothing. lol.
I just went around those stumps and the coins came out for me. Did you use the joy stick button to do that trick? That's what I used for mine. I have a 2DS and a DS lite.
Man, played this when it came out, and I am still finding out fun lil things about it. Such a timeless game with an atmosphere that can never be duplicated

1:52 on that part of the game. If you use a rom hack cheat . There is a creepy purple 🟣 face at the top of the slide . If you go backwards up the slide.
I just learned this this morning, but if you press x or y on the switch version of the game (idk if it does the same thing on the n64 version cause I don't have one) while on the main title screen with the Mario head, it will zoom in and out. And you can still pull on his nose and ears when it's zoomed out too.😃 I thought it was pretty cool!😁

The Wet-Dry World one is actually hinted at by the game, and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be required for star 5 and 6 (as the water level can't go high enough to reach the cage edge without it, and the slide across the boundary feels too janky to be an intended strat).
Enter and immediately exit the cool cool mountain door, 2 times and when you enter the third time walk down the rightside ramp toward the painting. You will trigger the boo sound effect from the basement hallway boo
When you chase that 1up outside of peaches castle when you crawl or crouch it will just fly in one spot
Maybe you know this by now, the Wet Dry World skybox is actually based on a town called Shibam in Yemen.
Which makes sense because in 2008 it was flooded by a tropical cyclone. Fitting with Wet Dry World's setting.
He mentioned this one, but I think he overlooked the extra context you added. The tropical cyclone and all.
That Wet-Dry World warp spot is so convenient. Love how many little things this game has.

Not once did I ever know about the mushroom warp spot. I just jumped off the cliff and used a timed mid air kick to get myself on that under ledge platform
It is very likely that the painting of the stars is a reference to Zelda Ocarina of Time because there are also doors that have the same textures as the ones in Zelda.

@@TheRebeloftheRebellion Yeah... going in blind without the knowledge you don't really know, but eventually you notice there's supposed to be 3 Bobombs by the Chukya not two. Then you quickly learn that that Bobomb that falls should be your very first destination as soon as you start the level.

Another oot reference might be the bookcase star in Boo's Haunt. The combo to open it is 23 is number 1. Also I think the way you interact with the butterflies can change the odds of getting a 1up instead of a bomb. Try ground pounding, jumping and punching.
It was the 90s .. 23 is number 1 is probably a Jordan reference.
Also OoT: The texture with the "L Is Real 2401" is reused there. This time it's an interactible object, and I don't remember its text box, but I do remember it makes perfect sense not only in its context in OoT, but also for SM64. So Nintendo definitely was cross-planning between these 2 games.

Ayo, that 2401 part just blew my mind! Did they actually predict that, or did the leaker intentially hold back the info to make it happen?
I experienced a weird glitch/easter egg when I was a kid. When the boo is in the hallway to the courtyard, hes supposed to turn around and disappear through the doors. I guess I somehow long jumped and caught up with him before he disappeared, and I distinctly remember the "bombs" from punching butterflies appearing when I caught up to him. I even took damage from it. I was so confused. Now im wondering if I punched it, and it somehow has the same bomb animation the butterflies do. Ive yet to replicate this years later. I was convinced it was a cartridge tilting glitch I experienced, until I saw the bomb and butterfly animation as an adult. I never knew the butterflies were punchable, let alone produced the same animation I saw on the boo. I at least KNOW its in the game now and I wasnt delusional 😂

7:12 You don't actually need to beat the game to get the canon up to the top of the castle to meet Yoshi, just have 120 stars.
Yeah beating the game without the glitch only requires 70 stars

You forgot to mention the different areas where you can jump off the cliff e.g. in tall tall mountain and a gust of air from below will keep you floating free from falling

When Mario throws bowser, he says, "so long ki donkin" and it's pretty clear. It literally sounds like nothing else. It's definitely not "king bowser" and it definitely doesn't sound like "gay bowser."

10:00 Never really thought about it until now because I was also confused by those posts although did know about the coin things but its probably a way to teach the player you can ground pound the posts down which would help you figure out how to release the chain chomp which makes sense since its probably not first instinct to run into the giant ball of death and think hey what if I slam on this post that will probably unleash him from the only thing keeping him from chasing me
You'd definitely think that it would unleash him, but since the star name tells you that that's exactly what you need to do...

Actually, he DOES say "So long, King Bowser!" It's been confirmed by Charles Martinet, the former voice of Mario.
