If you’ve been searching for a color film simulation recipe for your Ricoh GR III or Ricoh GR IIIx that you can use for any situation, look no further than Reggie’s Color Negative. This film simulation recipe started out as an attempt to recreate the look of my popular Fujifilm recipe Reggie's Portra but for the Ricoh GR system. It’s not quite the same colors and tones as Fujifilm, but it's a look worthy enough for me to stop shooting RAW - and it's a great alternative to the overpriced and out-of-stock Fujifilm X100V.

Thank you for sharing this! Can't wait to test it out!
Thanks for sharing your recipes Reggie ! Really love them & yes to b&w!
You are the best. Love learning from your vast experience and truly appreciate your hard work in sharing w all of us.
Thanks for the kind words
You’re killing it dude, best video I’ve seen out there on Ricoh sims , and arguably the best sim I’ve seen so far (at least for my tastes!)
Love, love, love this recipe. I've set it to my U1 preset, absolutely love it. Thank you sir for posting this, it compliments the Reggie's Portra recipe I have dialed into my X100V now. Love your channel, thank you for all of your sharing!
You’re welcome!
just picked up my gr3 and this got me out there to enjoy it immediately! Thank you
Amazing and thank you. Cannot wait for the black and white recipe 😍
Thanks! Do you shoot with a Ricoh?
Thank you for this. Can’t wait to try it!
Have fun!
Really interesting Reggie, love the colour simulations you have come up with . It would be great to see your black-and-white simulation recipe 🙏
Reggie, you're a genius! I'm just about to ditch my X-T and look for the tinier GRIIIx, but I feared to miss your Fuji recipes (Portra is my fav). Now, I can get them again. Many thanks!
Thanks Legend, I was so stoked to see this come to the Ricoh
🤘🏽
Thanks for sharing. That's a great look!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Reggie. This looks very nice.
It indeed does :)
Loved the video and immediately subscribe!
very informative video about Ricoh. so far Thank you!
thank you. i will try this on my next day out
Fire!! 🙌🏾
I'm gonna try this out when I rent a GR 3 for an upcoming Colombia trip. Been wanting a very compact travel camera so I'm giving it a go.
Love it. Thank you for sharing this! I’m looking forward to trying it out. I’ve mainly shot and edited raw files on the Ricoh and while I absolutely love the raw output and flexibility, it somewhat clashes with how I use the camera. Would love to see what you’ve been using for B&W. I’ve been using a fairly contrasty recipe thus far that works, but I’ve loved the light/style you shoot in. Registering my interest and appreciate the time you put into this video!!
I’m heavily interested in the gr3. Learning a lot from your videos.
Very nice. I ordered a Griii today. I have no idea how to take photos but I'm looking forward to snapping family and trips with this little gadget. I'm looking for recipes because editing the photos is never going to happen. This recipe goes top of the list 👍🏾👍🏾
Please do the B/W!!! Loved this one!
We need the B&W recipe too 💕💕 Thank you
B&W Recipe please. This color recipe is great! Thanks for sharing.
Yes. We need the B&W. Thx
Nice Alfa Spider!
Great film simulation 😃
Thank you so so so much.
i dont like the negative usually, but i love this one. thank you!
Boss recipe. Please can you do one for a b/w film recipe on the Ricoh?
If there’s enough interest
@@ReggiebphotoI loved your fuji ones, I dropped that in the sea and now using ricoh, so I am so glad to see this video. Please do the b&w one :) Great video
@@Reggiebphotoyeeessss do ittttt. right now you’re kind of the goat of recipes 🤣 we need to see your black and white haha
Interest over here good sir!
i second!!!
First few test shots look fantastic. BW recipe is next for me. Thanks
Let us know how it goes
I'm going to buy a Ricoh giiix because of this video thank you!
Grate video, love to see a b&w version please
Thanks!
Definitely would be interested in seeing your B&W recipe. That would be great!
Coming soon!
Hey Reggie, thanks for the video! Absolutely love your recipe. I just got a GR3 to use as a daily camera sort of thing, and I would LOVE if you could do a quick video going over your settings, shooting mode and any other tips that could help people who are new to the Ricoh cameras. Thank you so much!
Hoping to do that down the road. What settings are your curious about?
@@Reggiebphoto I'd love that! I believe a quick overview of what camera settings you use (exposure metering, auto iso, etc) and then a bit more about what shooting mode you use (Av, Tv, full manual, maybe some custom modes if you use them) and some tips about how you get your photos to look like they do (what you try to look for while shooting, what you try to adjust, how to shoot indoors or outdoors, etc)
I'm sure these are things I'll end up figuring out eventually and with time, but it would be REALLY helpful to get some insights into how people with more experience are already doing it, especially because you have some gorgeous pictures. I have basically zero experience with photography, so I'm sure something like this would help a lot.
Thanks a lot!
I second this request. Those photos may be among the best on TH-cam when it comes to Ricoh GR III. We truly need to know how you set up this beautiful camera. Looking forward to it!
I don't own a Ricoh but I greatly appreciate the effort and your sharing. I used your Fuji film simulation for my recent trip to Tokyo and fell in love with the results!
Awesome, thank you!
Sheesh those colors are amazing
Do they rival Fuji in your opinion?
@@Reggiebphoto hard to say. I’d love to get a GRIII in hand to test it out.
Do it
WAIT! haha I just had to watch it twice because my battery died right after i setup the recipe and wasnt able to save yet haha. Thank you, just subscribed. I also see you shoot in Emeryville a lot, I lived there for a few years before moving to LA.
Nice! Yes, it's a fun area to shoot at for all the color.
Yes!
Thanks for being the first comment!
Goddamn your recipes and photos are briljant!!
Thanks 🙏🏽
I got a ricoh GR because of your videos and NO REGRETS!!! Absolutely love it. @@Reggiebphoto I also still use my X100V but for street photography the ricoh is just so fun and stealthy.
Reggie you forget the B&W man!!!! Cmon
Thanks a lot 😊
You're welcome! What Ricoh do you shoot with?
@@Reggiebphoto GR III
from one pinoy to another.... thank you so much for this. i missed having classic chrome. but been loving using this on my new HDF
Nice! Waiting to unbox my hdf soon
hey um i recently commented on one of your videos, saying im waiting for the perfect time to get the GR3. and you said now or never,
guess what- i got one for $670! insane. thankyou for the push. will be using this recipe!
Congratulations! Very good price.

B/W recipe please… In my fuji xe4 reggies potra and b/w simulations are the only ones that I use… Now in my ricoh Gr iiix, this is the one I have been using seeing from your IG stories.
We want a b/w recipe for sure!
You are doing a great job. Keep going. Love from India.
Coming soon!
that shot at 04:42 is wow
Thank you , I will definitely try this . Please show us the BW too !
Will do!
REGGIE! I do not need a GRIII but you're making me want one 😭
Haha! It’s so small
Thank you for the recipe! May I know where I can get the filter? Thanksss❤
For a handy list of all the settings, refer to the Ricoh Recipe app or my blog post: reggiebphotography.com/blog/The-Most-Versatile-Ricoh-GR-III-GR-IIIx-Film-Simulation-Recipe-Reggies-Color-Negative
The Shading setting adds (or subtracts) vignetting. You mentioned setting the Shadow Contrast to -1 to preserve some shadow detail, but that's going to darken your shadows. The Shadow Contrast setting is a bit counter-intuitive, e.g., negative numbers make it darker (possibly crushing details), while positive numbers make it brighter.
+1 for B&W recipe video!
🙏🏽
+ 2 for the B&W recipe video!
Does that mean setting shadow contrast to +1 is better?
@@yawarlol if the intended effect is to bring back more shadow detail, then yes, positive numbers will achieve that. I find it helps to think of it like exposure compensation that only affects shadows (or highlights if you're adjusting highlight contrast).
No means I just explained it wrong lol. My settings were right
Such a beautiful recipe Reggie ❤. Do you under expose a little when you shooting outside on a bright and sunny day?
It depends on shot to shot
Thank you for this video.
Reggie I’d like to see your B&W film simulations if you please.
Have a happy and healthy NewYear.

Great video Reggie. I would love to see the Black and White simulation as well :)
Noted!
Hi Reggie! Love your video tutorials.
What are your settings for EV and FM on the GRIII when shooting in negative film ?
Not sure what that means
Thank you. Seeing your recipe in this video pushed me over the line to get a GRIIIx. I have a newbie question. After changing the image control settings, you also changed white balance, noise reduction and dynamic range. Can these changes also be stored with the image control settings as C1? Or should it all be saved to a box/U1?
They are outside c1 a so it gets saved globally
These photos look so gorgeous, great recipe. You’re really selling this camera to me 😭
Is it silly to have this alongside a fujfilm x100f?
Not at all. They’re all different focal lengths and form factors.
Please show us your Black and White recipe. I love your Fuji BW recipe!
Shared it on my channel!
great Recipe!
why don't you use different profiles for switching (the wheel on top of the camera), but rather different settings and the menu?
Because I prefer to not use the top wheel to switch sims
Thanks man. Do you have a video showing the black and white simulation you mentioned on Wrench #2?
Not yet
Great video! So what Ricoh do you find picking up more often? The 28mm or the 40mm?
it's 50/50 tbh.
Perfect video. Would you recommend a Ricoh over a Fuji in terms of everyday usage ?
They’re different camera for different things. It’s not one over the other but they compliment each other in my kit
You can save up to 6 Custom Profiles - 3 User slots & each one can have 2 individual Profiles, just don' forget to save the User Slot before turning off the camera or switching User slots.
Yup
Hello Reggie, congratulations on the video, nice shot. One question for you: in order to get the same colors and effects to the photos with Ricoh, is it okay to just shoot with the settings you provided or is the NiSi adapter essential to get the kind of "film" shots you showed us? 3:37 3:40 3:43 3:46 3:50 Thanks 🙂
Can you tell me what the photos look like that you’re asking about? What’s in the photo. I can confirm
Hi, to get the same results as the shots you show us, is it enough to follow the Ricoh settings you showed us in the video or do you need to add that NiSi adapter to get those results? (Below I mention the moments in the video of the exact photos 3:37 3:40 3:43 3:45)
Is there any similar alternative for the GR II?
…please post your b&w recipe!🙏
need those b&w settings

Hello! Great job! Is it possible to know all your reflages for the ricoh griii? In great detail :) Merci !
What are reflages?
All your settings :) not just the simulation aspect, thanks !@@Reggiebphoto
Can you share your cinebloom filter link please? Thanks
I love your portra recipe for fuji, but can you replicate positive film ricoh gr for fujifilm recipe? i really love that look from ricoh gr
Don’t have any plans to
Do you also have a recipe for the positiv film? I have the Ricoh gr III and everytime I try to get the update for the negative film the update fails so can't use that one.
Is there a guideline for when to use this recipe? When to use b&w? When to use positive or negative? So and so? Any opinion on this? Thank you!!
Nope that’s up to your creative eye
Nice video, may I know what is the red ring filter on the video to soft the image, I can’t hear that clearly , thank you 😅
diffusion filter
CineBloom 10% filter from moment
What clarity would you recommend when you don't have a filter?
hey man, are u selling your ricoh presets? id love to try them out!
No, I’ve never touched a Ricoh raw in my life
hello, if I want to have a bit more color punch in red do I have to turn it ore to magenta shift ? as well I want to have deeper colors is it saturation ?
I dunno. Try it out and see.
Hi Reggie,,Hope you and your family are doing well, curious for your own personal family documentary photos, ,if you don't have a x 100v or ricoh, with a x-e series or x-t series what lenses would you recommend the 18 f2, and the 35 f2?I noticed you have these lenses in your compact gear.. like to hear your thoughts on lenses you find you like and tend to use alot at home.
I don’t have either of those
@Reggiebphoto ahhh no stress.I thought you did since it was under your gear section recommendations.any how no stress.but im curious what lenses would recommend for everyday family stuff.not professional work.
That list is outdated unfortunately
@Reggiebphoto gotcha..curious, what lenses would you recommend for your own family photos.everyday stuff?
Great! I’m still on gr ii, is it possible to do a similar preset based on positive film?
I don’t know. You just gotta try and see
I dont know which Camera i should buy. Its between the Ricoh gr iiix and the Fuji xs20. Do you have and Tipps?
Do you want to change lenses?
Have you done Hasselblad color recipe yet ?
No
How did he you do the last step where the back button becomes a shortcut to 5 settings? Thanks!
Change the ADJ button settings
Hmmm, i have a Nikon Z50. It allows for some tweaking of jpeg parameters. I wonder how close i could bring it to this? Thanks!
send me a nikon camera, and i can try to make some looks
@@Reggiebphoto Wish i had that power! ;-)
Then it’s up to you to make the Nikon look. I believe in you
Interesting. Do you shoot with negative exposure then? -1 stop?
Changes based on the shot. I’m always altering my exposure comp or shooting in manual
That is one sick film sum recipe. It does come a little close to fuji. Didn't even know there's a camera called Rico. How close can I get to eterna and eterna bleach bypass on my phone? Would love to know if thays even a possibility.
On your phone?
@@Reggiebphoto yup! I've seen posts where people colour grade phone footage.
That’s not something I do or have experience with
❤❤❤❤
Hello, how could I make this work on a GR2? Any suggestion highly appreciated!
I don’t know
Were those pictures taken from the Ricoh Gr3?
Gr iii and gr iii x
Bought the Ricoh returned it just to buy it again.
if only fuji would make a compact camera like the gr iii
They did in the past. I love my X70
As someone who came from Fujifilm because the X-E4 were all sold out and back ordered when my X-T died. I am scared about we're about to sell out all the GRs also. We need to keep this one a secret, or there's going to be no small cameras left. 😂
If you want to buy it, then buy it. Why wait till that point? You want me to stop making videos about the camera?
@@Reggiebphoto I already have one. I was just kidding that we are going to sell them out too, because they're awesome.
Are the pictures in this video edited or are they straight out of camera?
Straight out of camera. If there are edits they’re minor touches to exposure or temp (+/- .25 stops max). Nothing that can’t be achieved in a phone editor no raw processing needed
Please share your B/W recipe
Will do soon
Is there any way to replicate this dreamy simulation in lightroom?
If you can reverse engineer the colors into an gel adjustment
bnw pleaseeeeee…
reggie please we need bnw %100
Naa, we don't want to see the BW recipe, good video!
Whoops.
Got rid of the X100V due to the size. Rather be lugging an M. Everything else it trumps the GRiiix
@@MikeLikesChannel Cos too many buttons and recipes create unpredictability. I lack the instinct and got too distracted using the X100V. I think it is great when it nails a shot though. Is it half of the M11 body size? Doubt it. Anyway I am a 50mm kind of guy & yeah that makes the M11 a solid weight from the Fuji.
Awesome recipe, Reggie. I adjusted the saturation to +1 but it's my all-around recipe. It's also my favorite for Fuji X100V.
best recipe is RAW
