An APSC sensor and it fits in my shirt pocket. Ricoh is still the only manufacturer who has done that. I don't know about desert island, but if I were marooned in a city with only one camera, it would be my number one pick.
I have never heard anyone call the AF joystick a nipple before. That's a much better name for it.
Great video!!
Haha well there’s always a first. Thanks for stopping by
Love this video! You seem like a very fun person I would love to learn from on a photo walk :) keep up the cool videos! 🎉
Very good commentary!!
The lens is just so,so sharp!
Thank you.
Very comprehensive! Thank you!
So glad to see this !!!! I really needed a TRUSTED video about this camera !!!
now we need Ricoh People to sponsor me @altamashurooj
Ah Anna,
I ❤ your pronunciation of X. This brings back memories. Keep up the good work 👍
Interesting takeaway from the video but thanks anyway!
Nice video! Thanks!😉
Heard a lot about this cam - quite a few pro photographers I know swear by it and highly recommend it as a subtle second cam. Thanks for the in depth look - very informative!
As always, it totally depends on what you’re shooting
*"Embrace the noise...noise is life."* Well said! John Peel (famous DJ, you probably know of him) once said the same about vinyl records: *"Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, 'Listen, mate, life has surface noise."* Même chose non ? (◠‿◠)
That’s actually pretty cool, and what separates us from AI now is that dust in the sensor and the noise 😂
ps Love your style, you put a smile on my face. I've had my GRiiix for a year and also *more* than happy! If Ricoh *do* bring out a GR4 with everything supposedly improved then maybe I'll look into it but ultimately camera depends on photographer, so I don't really care about tweaks because I'm used to my little baby as she is and also don't care about video (your little segment abt video capability made me LOL btw).
I’ve got 10 other things to make the videos with… but yeah let’s see what they bring
Thanks, i have some leicas, Q 2 ,M , but now new the Rico griii x hd 40 mm and i am witing for the 28 mm. Thanks for the Tip top Set the crop Point in the " Ring " , the Kamera ist at First complicated, but now i struggle Not so often 😂
Great summary thanks. I had the 28mm but did not really connect. Now have the 111x and love it. Also have the Urban Edition which has a lovely finish - much nicer than the normal finish.
I went out with Fuji 23 mm out the other day and after so often using 40mm it was so weird to me that everything is so far away
I liked your suggestion very much, I also want to buy this camera thanks
Glad to help you somehow
nice review. i have and love the GRD3 from 2009, and i am considering the GR3x, but i might just wait for the GR4 in hopes of weather-proofing.
I’m also eyeing the updates in anticipation but they tricked us with Kai and Lock instead
I love the griiix . I have one for about a little over a year now. I also have a couple Fuji's X-E1 , X100 which are better built and i like the jpegs more, but with raw you can do anything. The advantage of the IBIS and the small size, I use the griiix more. There is a big difference with the ibis. I can take sharp shots indoors at way lower shutter speeds than i can with the Fuji's
Do you actually ever use the snap focus feature?
@@annashtraus no but im gonna have to figure it out. Because it seems like an advantage in some case
I love your humor brilliantly done, I own the gr3 X and definitely would recommend it to anyone , yes I agree the battery life is not that great and shooting in direct light takes a bit of getting use to.
The quality is really good for a compact camera.
Shooting on the street is perfect, people don’t want a big lens in their face and may take offense.
Travel is awesome as well.
Thanks, I totally agree
I agree. Embrace the noise! As soon as I buy a new camera I turn off all noise reduction and sharpening. In 2005 digital camera noise could be pretty terrible, but nowadays the noise looks fine. Much more grainy than noise, in most cases.
I used to shoot Kodak 1600 colour film and 3200 B&W film because I loved the grain and contrast.
In any case, the story of the photo is much more important - noise or not...
Im new to photography and take product photos mainly, i love the review and have been looking for awhile now, however £1k is a little outside my budget, is there something you would recommend under £500?
I’d say something second hand? Maybe fujifilm xt3?
I’m often in Australia in the glaring sunshine and the OVF is a great help. I really like my (28mm) GRIII and its predecessors. Good prez thanks.
oh yeah, I know what you talking about with that bright sunlight
@@annashtraus Australia is the brightest sunlight I’ve experienced and I’ve lived in the Middle East too. The reason is the Erath’s orbit is elliptical and in the Summer the southern hemisphere is closer to the Earth than the northern hemisphere equivalent.
Hey Anna! Quick question: Is the GRIIIx good for taking selfies with 1-2 persons in the frame or is the 40mm lens a problem in that case? Thanks for the amazing video - really enjoyed it.🌻
I’d say if you want to do selfies best to get griii without x because yesterday I was taking a photo of myself and you can barely fit one person in
@@annashtraus Ok, thank you for the reply - i will have a look on the GRIII and think about it in the next days😄
does the camera have any problem with fast focus and shutter? does it have any lag with focus and shooting?
There is no lag, and if you’re using snap focus it doesn’t take any time at alI, but you have do the thinking of the focal distance yourself. I also didn’t notice any problems with fast shutter. Anyone described these issues? Focus generally isn’t the greatest but overall does decent job.
Good review. I'd recommend raising the audio gain on your future videos. The volume of this recording is low.
Really? Out of all the videos I have on the channel I feel the audio in this one is really ok
been obsessing over the GR3 and came across this video! helloo 👋
helloooo welll, when are you biting the bullet?
@@annashtraus very soon 👀
EMBRACE THE NOISE 😂😂😂😂
Curious how different it feels than taking a photo with a phone. If you’re just using an LCD to frame it, then wouldn’t the 24MP of the iPhone 15 feel similar?
On paper it maybe would, but when you open the photo in Lightroom the bigger sensor of Ricoh will definitely shine some more.
ergonomically, taking photos with a GR is immensely more fun/satisfying than using an iphone, from my experience.
Stealth photography gear 101
4:00 mns. About noise: Topaz Denoise Ai does a fantastic job against noise
Even Lightroom itself can
Love the idea and size of this camera range for stealthy street photography but the well documented issues pertaining to dust ingress and build quality keep me from 'pulling the trigger'......
Yes there’s definitely already some dust in my sensor
how to use external flash in it?
Find the brand that works and put it on the hot shoe flash
No viewfinder. I’m trying to deal with this. I may buy a cheap plastic viewfinder to help frame my images. I don’t like using the LCD that the camera forces you to use.
The price is expensive. It is cheaper than the Fuji X100V list price. It is also more available than the Fuji. That being said, I purchased my GRiiiX used on Craigslist. They don’t come up often. I was patient. When one was advertised at ~$650 US I jumped on it.
I don’t know if I like this camera. Certainly the GRiii isn’t for me due to the 28mm field of view. Simply too wide for my taste. Like you Anna, I like to shoot between 35 & 50mm so 40mm is perfectly fine for me. The lack of an EVF, much less any viewfinder, may cause me to sell this camera.
The telephoto lens is 1.5X. Your focal length is then 60mm. The camera then crops to 70 or 75mm. Almost the ‘perfect’ 85mm portrait length focal length. The alternative is zoom with your feet. I don’t know how much facial distortion there is with the 40mm focal length. I suspect not much.
I don’t use video very much. I shoot 30” clips. There aren’t a lot of video options for this body. Whereas more is better, the video features on the GRiii are adequate for my use. Most GRiii users are photographers. Video on this body definitely is a second thought.
I am undecided if I am keeping this camera.
Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Hello Martin, your comment is better than my video haha 😁
I like a lot about this camera, but no viewfinder is a total deal breaker. Even one of my old Olympus pens had an EVF that plugged into a port. I like to be as discreet as possible, and holding a camera out in front of you to compose is just horrible for me. I want to see darkness surrounding a rectangle of geometry and colours, and nothing else to distract. Hey ho. The search goes on.
Perhaps the next generation of Fuji X100 will be the one for you? I feel they gonna come out with one soon. The viewfinderless camera is truly a nuisance but I guess the size had to compromise on this feature 😟
Normalize noise in photos!!!
Free the noise!

What are you struggles with the Leicas?
@@annashtraus I have only one struggle 😉they are so heavy 😇I love the q2 but my favourite is my leica T , the silver metallic block is so smooth in my hand and the picture are so special, you know.
@@anja6807I agree, it’s kinda annoying how not light it is. I mean it’s built well but it definitely weights you down
