Hi David. For the Fuji I mainly have it set to continuous focus, wide AF tracking, with a single point focus area. I generally have the single point in a central location and recompose the subject. That movement was just to check where I would eventually end up framing the shot, as I had a couple of seconds before the subject would enter. I also use this moment to check the continuous AF is tracking correctly.
@@gurugamer8632they really should have developed a new lens for this camera. They took the cheap route though to release the camera as soon as possible
Good spot. It is indeed down to my preferred simulation for each camera; Classic Chrome for Fuji and Negative Film for Ricoh. Both on the desaturated / colder side, but Negative Film definitely pushes this further.
The Ricoh can make photos as good as the Fuji, if not better because of its stunninly sharp lens, all that for almost half the price ! I have a Fuji X-T5 which has the same sensor as the X100VI, and the Ricoh beats it for image quality.
ive been shooting with both cameras. The Ricoh's form factor and file quality is unmatched. The autofocus is sluggish, it takes a learning curve to get used to snap focusing. The fuji is overall a more enjoyable shooting experience to me. The Camera feels better in hand, I enjoy the physical knobs, the autofocus is much snappier than the Ricoh. If I had to pick one, id go with the Ricoh myself due to the size.
Perfectly put - this is exactly how I'd summarise the two. I wish Ricoh would tease us with the GR IV, but all they've done is release another yet shiny version of the III last night. I can only really trust it in snap focus mode.
Hands down, GRIIIX is the winner for me. One of the criticisms of the GR is the lack of a viewfinder. I find it ironic that Fuji shooters, and I know a few of them, hardly ever use the viewfinder. I find them looking through the back screen almost all the time. So there goes the argument for the one that has the viewfinder. GR is a funky camera to shoot with but once you get to know your way around the interface, the quality that it gives you runs with the best cameras and lenses out there. The two surprises for me were the colors of the GR and how sharp the lens was. I shot almost exclusively at f2.8 and the images are as good as some of my lenses that cost 2-3X as much as the GRIIIX camera !!!
@@po.ntandshoot I agree with all your points. Focus accuracy, as you mentioned was a sore point too. I found myself trying to anticipate the action... "the decisive moment" if you will before I pressed the shutter button. It reminded me of my film days when we were deliberate and did not spray and pray! I think they just updated the firmware and offer some improved focusing capabilities. The GR is a very sophisticated machine. One needs to study and learn its capabilities to get the max out of the camera. I only had it for a few hours. So, there was not enough time to learn all the ins and outs of the camera.
Hi! For both cameras, I used their in-camera presets in Lightroom as a base (classic chrome for Fuji, negative film for Ricoh), and then made some minor tweaks to contrast and exposure. I did a SOOC POV walk in the last episode FYI.
Judging by these shots alone the x100vi is much much better. The GRIII photos all look a bit washed out and the shadows are too dark at the same time, so the GR pictures all look under exposed and over exposed at the same time :-/ i guess its a sensor issue?
I think it's due to Ricoh's negative film preset I used, which is unsaturated and seems to struggle with highlights on an overcast day. Thanks for watching!
@po.ntandshoot Ah ok! Yeah I used my friends GRIIIX the other day and compared it with my X100VI. The GR is amazing! It's so good for such a small form factor and a pop out lens, you really don't need to care at all, just pull it out and fire away and it will spit out beautiful photos; I was really impressed! I really enjoy my larger form, sensor, dials OVF viewfinder and flash on the X100VI though so I'm still happy with it, but if I just wanted a camera I could use in the same way as an iPhone and didn't care about manual controls or fine tuning as much, the GRIIIX is kind of perfect It's a really satisfying size, I like it's a bit more chunky than the GRIII also.
@@po.ntandshoot compared to a mid to pro level Canon R it’s a bargain. Think my 24-105 F4 L costs the same as the Fuji and the lens possibly weighs as much. The best camera for a given situation is the key. I shoot from Fuji 6x9 film, Canon pro DSLR down to the small EOS M5. For travel and city work a small camera is great. My little Minox 35GT and Fuji DL mini did sterling service for the 1980s. I recently scanned some negatives of my 43 yr old son taken when he was 5 on the Minox. We were blown away by the quality and colour - guess what, most were shot on Fuji film. Kodak Gold also came out well. As a fall back, an iPhone 13 Pro in RAW still gives ok images but not the same.
Dropped my GRIII while the barrel was extended, it just shattered. They say it will have to go to Japan for repairs and the costs are probably not worth it. Dropped my Canon 7D II and pancake lens on to cement from a higher height. Not even a scratch. I changed over to the Fuji X100v and Ricoh GR iii from the Canon 5DMiv and 7D II because of all the hype. I won't get caught again!
You can get pictures like these, or even better, with any apsc cameras half their price. Nikon z30 or Sony zve10 with viltrox 27mm f1.2 or Sigma 23mm f1.4 will perform much better than these two.
Yes, but the issue is size. You cannot carry around a Viltrox 27/1.2 in any pocketable manner. End of the day your best camera is the one you take with you and the form factor ot those two lens choices will mean they are left more often at home than these fixed lens cameras. Personally I prefer more shallow depth of field, but trying to keep it small is difficult. Maybe a Nikon ZF with a 40/2 might do it, because it is full frame. But it's still not really pocketable.
I agree - most cameras could compete. It's a whole lot of fun to have pocketable cameras, however, literally keeping one or both on you at all times without a bag (ricoh in jeans pocket, fuji in jacket pocket). I generally shoot at around f/4-5.6, so there aren't many examples in this video of how it resolves bokeh etc. I should explore that more.

had recently taking Ricoh GRIII to London, nice for strees shots (espeically for the cloudy or rainy days! !
I noticed the Ricoh shots have “soul”.
love these kind of videos. Are these shots sooc. If so what simulation did you use?
Ah just so the ending with 50 edited shots. Guessing they’re not sooc then?
@@leoeckert1050 these were edited, yes. But they are just minor tweaks in lightroom of Classic Chrome (Fuji) and Negative Film (Ricoh) simulations.
is the 'new' version HDF any better?
Sorry, I haven't tried it. It was definitely an underwhelming release...
@@po.ntandshoot i bought ricoh yesterday ;) so small i cant get used to it because i alwayes have been using nikon d750 but it is fun another experience
My compliments, you are an excellent photographer .both are very good for street photos, a preference for the Ricoh, more discreet than the Fuji, but it's not the camera that takes photos, it's the photographer. If you are a bad photographer you always take bad photos, and if you are a good photographer with any camera you take good photos.
Mark, why do you do this hands move going upfront then back to follow the subject? th-cam.com/video/aNLYj4mS8YU/w-d-xo.html
I'd appreciate if you could explain in detail.
That movement was just to check where I would eventually end up framing the shot, as I had a couple of seconds before the subject would enter. I also use this moment to check the continuous AF is tracking correctly.
@@po.ntandshoot Thanks a lot.
Is the lens more shaper higher quality on the GR III X
Early opinion, but I think the Ricoh resolves detail better. Both high quality of course.
@@po.ntandshoot I had the x100vi returned it. Lens was not great.
@@gurugamer8632they really should have developed a new lens for this camera. They took the cheap route though to release the camera as soon as possible
@@PantalonesFrescos I’m happy with my M11 and A7RV… The images from Ricoh GR III X are lot better than X100VI. Maybe better lens.
@@PantalonesFrescos it’s a shit camera poor mans Leica really hyped
On what did you record walking videos?
Hi - a GoPro Hero 11 with either a chest mount or a backpack swivel clip.
@@po.ntandshoot Hi! Thank you 😊 Your video looks AMAZING 😍
Not sure if it's your edit or it's the simulation from respective camera, but Ricoh's images look more washed out and desaturated.
For image quality, I'm swaying towards the Ricoh indeed.
ive been shooting with both cameras.
Too bad the Ricoh doesn't have a built-in flash. That would be perfect for parties of this size.
Thanks for the reminder - I want to test the X100VI's built-in flash.
I bought a flash from Reflx Labs and it's SO tiny and crazy powerful!!
@@Datsunn ooooo - good shout, I might look into it.
I actually would love to have the Fuji x100vi but I already got the Ricoh gr III.
Haven't tried the GR III, no doubt it's superb.
did you do any editing to these photos? they're looking very similar to me.. hard to make a call.
I did yes, but I used my favourite presents from each of the cameras (Classic Chrome for Fuji, Negative Film for Ricoh) which are a similar style.
really?? it was night and day for me.....did not like the ricoh colours
Colour and sharpness is superb indeed. The battery and focus accuracy need improving, but for the size of the camera it can be forgiven -
@@po.ntandshoot I agree totally.
羨慕對街拍這麼友善的環境
Hey man! Are the pictures straight out of the cam, even from the Ricoh ?
Hi! For both cameras, I used their in-camera presets in Lightroom as a base (classic chrome for Fuji, negative film for Ricoh), and then made some minor tweaks to contrast and exposure. I did a SOOC POV walk in the last episode FYI.
@@po.ntandshootYou shot in RAW?
@@nz7555 yes, for both cameras
Nice shots
I enjoyed, thanks.
Cheers - appreciate it!
I prefer the results from Ricoh grIIIx 😊❤
I'm on the fence still!
I prefer GRIIIX for daily use and X100V on a serious trip.
I can relate with this.
I just bought a Ricoh GRIII X - wanted to wait for the IV, but I'I gave up. Hope it's worth it
You'll have no regrets, I'm sure of it 📸
5:25 comrade LOL
Ricoh is wild 😂
I think I'd rather the GR
Pockets and wallets support this.
oh how do i miss bath
Same. Didn't appreciate it enough at Uni.
Fuji quality is top notch, shame on the price tho
Yeah, big price tag for such a small camera. Powerful piece of kit though.
Liking the video edit
Merci beaucoup monsieur fortuné
Awesome & Thanks :)
The same to you.
please, next model Ricoh, with FLASH! ;D
Seems like we will have to wait some time!

大丈夫!
I agree, the GR is too delicate for an everyday / street photography camera. Sometimes I worry that it's even too tight in my pocket!
