This is so, so awesome Reggie. Many of the Fuji recipes out there for me were too 70s-90s film with a heavy yellow orange tint or the Kodachrome saturation. This is such a nice modern balance of colors and is really terrific. Thank you.
@@ReggiebphotoThe Pre-installed film simulations that come installed on the X100VI such as Across, Provia, Reala Ace etc, my friend has accidentally messed about with them such as Tone, WB, DR etc, is it possible to reset these without resetting everything else on the X100VI.
4:02 the lossless compressed options does not degrade the quality of the RAW file, hence the name lossless. It cuts file size in half (on my X-T3 from ca. 70MB to 35MB per RAW file) and it just takes longer to import into a RAW converter like Capture One or Lightroom, and on Mac OS at least you cannot view previews of the RAW file natively within the Finder. These are the only downsides.
It does actually affect highlights and so can be an issue with high dynamic range scenes if I remember correctly. But it 90% of the cases, it seems to be alright.
Reggie I haven't seen this in the comments but at 4:00 you are implying that lossless compressed comes with a loss of image quality. This isn't the case, the name lossless means there is no loss in image quality whatsoever. The opposite is true for "lossy" compression (such as jpg). The only difference between lossless compressed and uncompressed is that the CPU has to work through the compression algorithm for each image but that is compensated by the fact that your SD card can clear the buffer more quickly because of smaller files. There might be a very slight benefit to giving the CPU more cycles to work on autofocus in continuous high mode but I haven't seen anyone claiming any measurable benefit. Hope this helps, great video!
We went for 2 weeks on holidays in Croatia and I was using this recipe. Absolutely perfect ! We had sunsets, street walkings, forest treks, the JPEG's from your formula is perfectly balanced ! With a rainy sky in the evening I thought the color was a bit too warm, so I just had to post process in Capture One later (but the light was also very dim). But I will say that 90% of my pictures which I printed are totally untouched from the camera. Thank you so much !

Easily my favourite Portra recipe that I use. I shoot heaps of Kodak Portra 400 film and your recipe matches what I see the most when I scan my negatives. I've always been dumbfounded at the other Portra recipes in the app as they look nothing like anything that I have ever scanned.

And in the end, the photos feel like a modern day developed roll of film. Thank you!! P.S. - in video, when adding a Kodachrome 64 lut, it works together with this recipe like PB&J!
Whoa. I've tried lots of Portra recipes throughout the years but this one works great. It wasn't very different than what I've had except for, setting the Dynamic Range to AUTO and the WB Auto but with -1 less Red than what I had. It made a big difference. Thanks Reggie!
Awesome film simulation. I have tried a few from others and never really been happy. But I love this one of yours. My only tweak was grain. I left it off, and I prefer a clean photo and I find your simulation gives the photo a nice smooth look that I like. Well done. Thanks!
I've been a Canon guy for over twenty years. I've been really looking at adding a different platform to my arsenal. This was a great video on how adjustable these cameras are.
As somebody that's shot Nikon for 18 years, here's my 2 cents when adding a different platform like Fuji to your main brand. I've bought an X100V (had the OG and F before it) at launch. I always struggle using it in one way or another. I really miss highlight centric metering , and It's AF is just not up to par with Nikon (Z7II now), if you have face detect on at all times, it will see windows on buildings as faces and expose for that spot or hunt to thatspot. it's RAW workflow is different (if I shoot Nikon in 1:1, the raw is 1:1, the Fuji if i open it, doesn't have my 1:1 crop, i have to do that manually again, with Fuji i have to bring the RAW to what they were myself after the fact which is annoying) - i love the aesthetics, and the X100V i can smuggle in places that normally don't allow pro gear (i.e concerts at nice venues) - but aside from that ? I'm really thinking of just selling it and get a 40/2 mm pancake for my Z7II, which as a total package won't be that much bigger than an X100V. And then i at least have to deal with 1 raw workflow instead of 2.So do rent a Fuji first before just jumping in the hype. My 2 cents.
Just got an X-T5 and this really helped me understand the recipe settings. Also, I had changed the clarity setting to -2 before I took my first shot and thought the “storing” message was normal. Wasn’t too happy about it, but had an aha moment when you mentioned that causing the delay.

Hey Reggie, thanks for sharing and explaining your amazing recipe! I'm new to photography and went for a Fuji X-S20 and will probably start playing with your recipe only since I want to spend more time with the camera and less on the editing program... I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the manual settings to be honest but watching your content motivates me :)
Sorry for this absolutely beginner like question, but I just started and I’m confused. If set all of this, which I did, and than I for example switch to different film filter. Does this all change? And than, how do I select it back if I saved it just like you showed us to. I can’t find the save anywhere. Thank you for whoevers understanding, I realize this question might be too much for somebody😂🙌🏼
For the clarity delay time, I found that one can override it by shooting in “burst” mode by changing drive from 1 shot to 3 or 4 fps. Short shutter press is one photo and for alittle more action, press and hold for a burst😂 idk- works for me. Though maybe the buffer for thag burst is incrementally smaller, but I’m sure that wedding and docu photography isn’t as fast pace as action sports. What do you think @reggiebphoto
Just FYI, when in burst mode, the camera isnt actually applying the clarity settings. So it is not the workaround that you think it is. Read the camera manuals and it will confirm as such.

Nice video Reggie. I use this recipe all the time. On the Xtrans 5 cameras they seem to render blue a little different. You might need to set color chrome blue to off to get the same look as the Xtrans 4 cameras.
Hey Reggie, I think I was already using your recipe from 1 year ago so only had to do very minor changes. Your photos look gorgeous, and it's very easy to promote this recipe. Cheers.

Just one question Reggie: you have adjusted Auto WB a little bit for optimize the melanated skin tone. If I wanna have it optimized for brighter skin tones, what should I change here? In general the output is very good, but just thinking to optimize it for my Family :-) Maybe R to 0 and B -2 or R +2 and B -3 ? Or will that change the complete look? I am not sure if a change is really needed, but in some situations the skin tone is too "Brown", but IT really depends on the light.
Reggie, thank you so much! I’ve used your simulation a few times. I like this video because you not only talk through your specific setting, you explain them, and in some cases, tell why you prefer the cameras setting vs Lightroom. Thanks for your work buddy! But I’d like to ask, do you use Jpegs for your professional work as well?
I use JPEGs for all professional work as of today. For weddings when I used to do them, I use my Lightroom preset which I sell on my website. With that said the wedding photos I showed here were JPEGs as I shot thst wedding in jpeg+raw
Hi Reggie, I'm so lost with all these recipes out there, just looking for a nice versatile recipe so I can shoot JPEG without worring about post-proces. This might be the recipe for me I guess :)
Thank you Reggie! Hell ya! I love this film recipe! I literally keep trying out new recipes, but this has been far the one I keep going back too. I've actually recently started having one with strong grain and one without the grain. -strong grain for the more filmic look -no grain for the crispy sharp photos. This recipe is my favorite hands down. I've only started utilizing it with video so I have yet to re-evaluate how that translates in post. But excited to see how it looks.
With my x-t5 i shoot jpeg in one sd card and raw in the other. I mostly never use raw, but it happens sometimes that i need to bring the exposure down, and that is where shooting raw saves my day.
Same me. Since I don’t shoot videos on my xt4 and xt2 I just keep separate sd for jpg and raw. Reason why some situation require in my opinion brining up shadows and toning down highlights.
I sold my Sony back in 2016 and been Fuji boi ever since, it's so nice. It's an AMAZING pick up and shoot camera line, and all my jpegs look great. No editing required
@@tlfilms207 I have the XT30ii. Basically same sensor as the X100V. The XT50 came out now too. With the XT camera’s, you can have interchangable lenses with the same quality as the X100’series
thanks. this is an excellent video. So much for this old film shooter to learn about digital settings! This was very helpful. beautiful portrait at 8:50
I tried this on my X100. Although there are limitations in features compared to modern models, I still feel relatively satisfied with the results. Thank you for sharing.
lossless compressed is not worse image quality it's identical. but because editors need to decompress to edit the process is slower. so it's either speed or file size... I use uncompressed because I definitely notice the speed difference editing.
I’m thinking about buying the x100v. A lot of reviews said it’s a great camera but if you don’t have enough knowledge on film you won’t get the film look you are expecting. But seeing that you just literally gave the recipe out for free I think I’m definitely gonna get this camera now. Thank you 🙏🏾
Some great tips here….also like your style of shooting. Your wedding photos are great without looking like some fantasy photo shoot coz most experience wedding shooters get carry away…..in the long run those kind of photos doesn’t do much for memories.
Thank you for the recipe you mentioned here, I will definitely test this out in the future, I have been looking for one that fits in with old buildings for a long time, I do not live far from the historic city of Bruges, Belgium, EU
Thanks for the recipe! I'm always on the hunt for the that one do it all recipe and I like what I've seen from your sample photos. Will give this one a try for sure.
Been following you ever since I bought my XT3 back in 2020 Reggie and have been using your film simulation and have been loving it keep up the amazing work man!!
This is most interesting and I look forward to trying the ideas. Awaiting delivery of an X-T3. Spent several hours reading the Manual, amazing number of facilities. Never seen a sports-finder in a digital camera, and so many manual focus aids.
I was initially skeptical when you recommended your settings, as I love the Negative Pro High look. Tried it on my X-T10 with your suggestion (only difference is tuning the White Balance to Auto - R: 2, B: -2) and went out to shoot. And boy was I blown away by the results! Love the warmth look without the overtones skin colour on people, brings out the vintage buildings character, and pretty versatile in every situation, day or night. The downside is the exposure must be nailed correctly - not too over exposed or underexposed. Otherwise it'll not bring out the best colour in the shot. Thank you for your recommendation! 👍
It'll be cool if you can come up with a new recipe for nature and town shooting. Fuji's default Velvia seem to work well in limited environment where there's a lot of greenery. Anything beyond that don't seem to work well or look right (e.g. mixture of greenery and buildings, greenery and people etc.)
Thanks! I really have liked the look of this film simulation. Now that I have an X-T5 I am going to start using it. I am interest to see how it works for night and street photography
Awesome video brother... I haven't really tried any fuji recipes but this look you created makes me want to try it out. And funny that you mention the Moment Cinebloom filter as I'm looking to order one :)
D Range Priorly overwrites the DR% and the control adjustment of shadows and highlights as it will automatically do that for you depending on the setting, weak or strong and it pretty much gives you that faded look between the two automatically as it tries to bring back the details in dark and light of an image. (I think I said that right)
@@Reggiebphoto I never thought to adjust color tones to bring out skin tone to best reflect a subject’s ethnicity. I just liked that part of the video.

Thank you! Was just about to ask if the recipe was written down anywhere. :)
BULLSHIT 😂😂
Awesome video and recipe Reggie! I’ve just had my new X100VI delivered and excited to experiment with this!
This has been my C1 recipe since the day I found it. Thanks for such a versatile one!!
Same here!
THIS looks so good! As already mentioned from others, the most recipes are too 70s like, this one is awesome! Thank you!
Glad you like it!
Just one question Reggie: you have adjusted Auto WB a little bit for optimize the melanated skin tone. If I wanna have it optimized for brighter skin tones, what should I change here?
In general the output is very good, but just thinking to optimize it for my Family :-)
Maybe R to 0 and B -2 or R +2 and B -3 ?
Or will that change the complete look? I am not sure if a change is really needed, but in some situations the skin tone is too "Brown", but IT really depends on the light.
@bastis.1751 use your judgement my friend. You know how your family looks. This is out of my scope.
Okidoki! I will try. Is it also working for the newer XS20 with newer Sensor? Or what need to be adjusted in this Case?
Reggie, thank you so much! I’ve used your simulation a few times. I like this video because you not only talk through your specific setting, you explain them, and in some cases, tell why you prefer the cameras setting vs Lightroom. Thanks for your work buddy!
But I’d like to ask, do you use Jpegs for your professional work as well?
I use JPEGs for all professional work as of today. For weddings when I used to do them, I use my Lightroom preset which I sell on my website. With that said the wedding photos I showed here were JPEGs as I shot thst wedding in jpeg+raw
New sub, great delivery, clear, concise, no bs, and you explained the why. Thank you.
Hi Reggie, I'm so lost with all these recipes out there, just looking for a nice versatile recipe so I can shoot JPEG without worring about post-proces. This might be the recipe for me I guess :)
Nice!
The best recipe - thank you 🤜
🫱🏽🫲🏾
Thank you Reggie! Hell ya! I love this film recipe! I literally keep trying out new recipes, but this has been far the one I keep going back too.
I've actually recently started having one with strong grain and one without the grain.
-strong grain for the more filmic look
-no grain for the crispy sharp photos.
This recipe is my favorite hands down.
I've only started utilizing it with video so I have yet to re-evaluate how that translates in post. But excited to see how it looks.
I like that! Two variations!
On video I use a separate more muted recipe
@Reggiebphoto where can we find the recipe for videos?
It’s not published yet.
You can always tell, when someone knows what they're talking about. 👏Thank you.
With my x-t5 i shoot jpeg in one sd card and raw in the other. I mostly never use raw, but it happens sometimes that i need to bring the exposure down, and that is where shooting raw saves my day.
100%
Same me. Since I don’t shoot videos on my xt4 and xt2 I just keep separate sd for jpg and raw. Reason why some situation require in my opinion brining up shadows and toning down highlights.
The Jim & Pam reference just locked me in for hitting subscribe, amazing work all in all!
This video is almost making me sell my a7iv lol
I sold my Sony back in 2016 and been Fuji boi ever since, it's so nice. It's an AMAZING pick up and shoot camera line, and all my jpegs look great. No editing required
@@Fablemahn what do u think is a good one besides the x100vi right now. I like the film look. Any suggestions?
@@tlfilms207 I have the XT30ii. Basically same sensor as the X100V. The XT50 came out now too. With the XT camera’s, you can have interchangable lenses with the same quality as the X100’series
I have three recipes in my X-T4 that never leave C1 to C3 presets, and one is Reggie's Portra! Great recipe in any condition!
What’s the third
@@Reggiebphoto well, actually yours is the third 😅
C1 is Kodachrome 64 and C2 is Kodak Tri-X 400
Nice
thanks. this is an excellent video. So much for this old film shooter to learn about digital settings! This was very helpful. beautiful portrait at 8:50
I tried this on my X100. Although there are limitations in features compared to modern models, I still feel relatively satisfied with the results. Thank you for sharing.
Nice
lossless compressed is not worse image quality it's identical. but because editors need to decompress to edit the process is slower. so it's either speed or file size... I use uncompressed because I definitely notice the speed difference editing.
100%
@@Reggiebphoto i want to see where you got/made this foam camera drawer? that's awesome.
I cut the foam myself
This recipe looks so good! I used it on a recent holiday in New Zealand and Australia. A great film recipe to have in the roster
Very thought provoking - made me revisit my menu settings and consider a fresh approach. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Which aspects did you reconsider?
After listening to your step by step recipe, I went back to each to see where I left my settings and overlooked others.@@Reggiebphoto
Just upgraded from xt3 to xt5. Can’t wait to try this!
Wow! Thanks for posting this helpful video. I can’t wait to try it.
I’m thinking about buying the x100v. A lot of reviews said it’s a great camera but if you don’t have enough knowledge on film you won’t get the film look you are expecting. But seeing that you just literally gave the recipe out for free I think I’m definitely gonna get this camera now. Thank you 🙏🏾
Hope you can find one !
Will give this one a try for sure.
hope it works out for you!
Been following you ever since I bought my XT3 back in 2020 Reggie and have been using your film simulation and have been loving it keep up the amazing work man!!
I'm glad it's been working for you!
Thank you Reggie! Sobrang salamat! I love your film sim! I'll be using it moving forward. Maybe this is the time I might stop shooting raw on my x100v
I love this recipes, It makes my photos much much better, big respect.
i'm not sure what sensor the xt10 has, but it potentially not be applicable to that sensor. i use a different recipe for xtrans ii.
@@johnfoo7182 i use this recipe for everything. that's kinda the main takeaway of this video
@@Reggiebphoto can you share the xtrans II recipe? Thanks, great video.
One day I will
Excellent video Reggie!! Longtime Fujifilm user (film and now digital) and love this idea!
Thanks!
Thanks! I really have liked the look of this film simulation. Now that I have an X-T5 I am going to start using it. I am interest to see how it works for night and street photography
Loaded the recipe and am loving it! Thank you for sharing!
thx for the tip on the clarity section! i never knew that was the reason for the annoying “storing” black screen after every shot. so much better now.
Thanks guy just got my first Fuji and heading to Colorado !super excited
Didn’t realize this was your sim! Been using it for a while and love it! Thank you!
Why yes. I am the Reggie, behind "Reggie's Portra"
Thanks Reggie, I like the look of the photos you showed.
thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing this. First time I play with film simulation and it is fantastic. I love the soft warm look it gives to pictures.
🙌🏽
Dude, I love your vids and love this look. It's the kind of look I've been wanting to get!
Nice! Give it a try!
I've been using your film simulation with my xt 30 ii and i love it. Thank you for sharing Reggie
are you still using this recipie in your xt30 ii? did you changed anything to better match the sensor?
Awesome video brother... I haven't really tried any fuji recipes but this look you created makes me want to try it out. And funny that you mention the Moment Cinebloom filter as I'm looking to order one :)
Make sure you use my links (I have a CineBloom video on my channel
wow that shot of the couple in the elevator is beautiful. Incredible that those colors came straight out of camera.
Thank you!
D Range Priorly overwrites the DR% and the control adjustment of shadows and highlights as it will automatically do that for you depending on the setting, weak or strong and it pretty much gives you that faded look between the two automatically as it tries to bring back the details in dark and light of an image. (I think I said that right)
This recipe is exactly what I was looking for! Perfect! Made me puchase your preset stoo. :). Great job explaining everything as well.
Amazing. Thanks for the support!
First comment that I'm writing since years
Your photos are fire, please keep going forever
Thanks 🙏🏽
Out of the office today but I cannot wait to try this recipe when I'm home. Thanks for sharing it!
Thanks Reggie this was a very helpful vid!
Your white balance adj and comments were very thoughtful.
How so?
@@Reggiebphoto I never thought to adjust color tones to bring out skin tone to best reflect a subject’s ethnicity. I just liked that part of the video.
Thanks for the recipe Reggie!
i shoot this recipe with a glimmer filter on my x100v (+ wcl) a whole year. unbelieable. printet them out anf wooohh. great analog. saved my 6000€ on a Leica Q3
