  • THE GIANT JAPANESE FUNNEL WEB PROJECT
    This project has taken a long time to get going due to the real lack of any Macrothele gigas in the UK , as you regulars will know males are very hard to source , so today we start the long journey of rearing and producing our own , in an attempt to be the first to successfully breed these wonderful and interesting spiders and show along the way that there reputation is not completely founded.

    I'm sure the high price on those is not due to their rarity but rather the cost of the PTSD therapy the vendor has to attend after trying and getting those crazy spiders to go into such minuscule containers

    I know you hear this a lot but I just wanted to say that I love your videos and I'm very thankful that this channel exists since it's significantly reduced my fear of spiders. The calm and respectful way you treat them definitely helped, especially when a lot of other channels like to put in spooky music in their tarantula videos. I started watching the channel about a month back and have since blasted through the backlog of videos you have. I loved them so much that I'm considering getting a little beasty of my own now.
    The first video of yours that I watched was the Japanese Funnel Web rehouse video, so I'm very excited to see how this breeding program goes in the future!

      I agree! I do NOT like the shiny, wiry looking spiders! Have you ever seen a banana spider, the giant orbweaver? Absolutely everything that I hate. I have two tarantulas, though, and they're just fine. Love them.

    • @effy_kujo
      @effy_kujo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JayTee95 yes, exactly! Tarantulas have cute, floppy feet and their little claws are adorable 🤗 the fuzzier the better, too. I think a lot of us were programmed to be afraid of the shinier spiders that have the skinny, pointed legs because, that's what we'd see in Halloween shops and movies and stuff. I'd still be hyperventilating if a T ran up my arm or something but, they're just so much more cuddly looking unlike these true spiders that look like they just want to eat our souls 🤣 what kind of Ts do you have? I'm hoping to get my first one soon but, I want to wait until I move out of my current place so, I don't have to worry about moving transporting enclosures. But, I don't think you'll ever catch me keeping funnel webs, orb weavers, or black widows. I just want a few fuzzy, pretty Ts, some new worlds and eventually a couple old worlds. I'm obsessed with pokies, they're beautifully goofy with their vibrant colors and big floppy feet 😍

I realize I got the p metallica as one of my first, but where I am in NY, I have been dealing with brown recluses my whole life, and am comfortable around flighty, venomous spiders. I asked this question on one of your older videos (I'm new to this computer stuff). The question is... why do you suppose most of the T's are so beautifully colored if they only see light/dark or shadows? Mr. Dave, you are a great teacher. That's something I've never thought about. I'm wondering if it has to do with the danger factor? I forgot what it's called, but kinda like how a poison dart frog is neon and also deadly (edit: aposematism). P Metallica and other old worlds have potent venom, and also have some stunning colors and patterns. That's my best guess 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

      @markwhelan9887 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JayTee95 Im new to the channel however I tend to think it may be to let any animal that wants to eat it aware of it's dangerous killer venom yield as in T's it's the male that had to go on an adventure to find his partner maybe if it's both that are wandering around the looking to mate then both would have bright colours. Just a thought, ? It's a very interesting subject.

      Start with tarantulas if your aim is to beat arachnophobia. I was terrified of spiders until I held a Mexican red knee in a pet shop and I was instantly cured 90% of my fear. That said I find these funnel webs creepy, like house spiders and huntsmen spiders. A lot of people who love tarantulas are still wary of true spiders and that’s ok. It’s normal to be wary of animals that might bite.

    This is AWESOME. I have such respect for this dedication and commitment. I know these slings will be safe in the Beastie Room :) Funnelwebs are my favorite kind of spider, and I don't know how rare these are in the wild, but any humane breeding project is a huge success in my eyes. Best wishes, can't wait to see the results. 💗

    I'm addicted to your channel now. What with presentation and content, plus camera lady, a winning performance. I've looked at similar channels but tbh they just don't hold my attention and I'm thinking... When's the next upload? Thankfully twice a week 😉

    I was thinking that an earthquake might knock a lot of those off the shelves! I live in an earthquake area ( California),so I put a “railing “ several inches up -across the front of the shelves in my pantry to keep things from falling to the floor in one of our frequent tremors. It might be something to think about, as that’s a lot of spiders to have loose in your house!😱
