Today we introduce our male again and the reaction was very different from our last attempt there is so much to learn from these amazing spiders and the way they communicate with each other, today we was treated to some amazing footage that probably has never been seen before, I hope you enjoy and do please comment your thoughts .

Who would have thought, watching two giant spiders attempting to breed at 4am would be incredibly interesting and a great distraction from real life :)

if i had to hazard a guess, id say the lack of a clear escape route is what made the courtship take so long, in the wild its probably faster where the male can find a way out quickly.
Male is stuck in a small space with a bigger, lethal woman....
He knows two things:
1. As long as she wants him to mate, she is not going to kill him...
2. As soon as he mates her, there is nothing stopping her from killing him...
Personally, I think he is showing some serious logical reasoning here, lol!
Lol, very true he probably heard down the pub wat happened to his mates after they successfully mated & know now why they don’t show up for a beer anymore!.. 🤣🤣🤣

She is the most patient woman spider I have ever seen!! He's so lucky!!
I wonder if he was trying to get her to expend a lot of energy before insertion, so he could gain an edge for post-coital escape?
I'm honestly terrified of spiders, but I cant stop watching videos on them and to be honest it is slowly getting me over my fear of them...they're just way too bolty for me to relax though, so interesting though

Literally same for me they fascinate me but I could never ever live in an area where spiders this big exist. I have goosebumps all over watching this and I had to stand Up from the bench I was Sitzung at because Im scared one is under even though I live in Europe where they dont even exist!! XD

I was proper on the edge of my seat there. I was absolutely sure he was going to get nailed. Mind you, after ignoring an obvious green light, he almost deserved it.

Well...I'm so afraid of spiders...but here I am ,watching Dave for a whole week..and I have NO idea how I got here. This totally kept me on the edge of my seat. It might be normal behavior, but sometimes you get a male who has no idea what he's doing. But I wonder, if you DO get a egg sack, how will you ever find it under all that heavy webbing?

This is the strangest video I have seen. I've never seen female spiders so keen and so patient in pairing. Usually they only allow a chuck and dash

That would b a very sensible reaction cause they r not a species that u should b handling, they aren’t passive & chill like a lot of tarantula species, funnel-webs will tag u in a heart beat & the sydney funnel-web will continue to strike repeatedly too they don’t mess about, there’s even stories of them actually chasing ppl wen they r commuted to biting u, scary stuff, not sure how much truth there is to it but wouldn’t surprise me at all cause they are extremely aggressive critters wen annoyed!..

You might consider putting on some Al Green or Barry White for skittish males like this one. Just in the background to diffuse the tension and relax the pedipalps. This looks like a bit of stage fright as well. It's hard for us human males to imagine that in the spider kingdom, women are the true masters, and getting laid is often NOT a mutually beneficial affair.
I'm so glad you managed to get him out safely! When I saw her fangs, I knew she was going in for the kill.
The entire time I couldn't help wonder if the enclosure is too small for their mating behaviour. He backs off so many times. Perhaps out of fear because he feels trapped?
Their courtship involves moving the female out of her burrow so perhaps he feels uncomfortable as it could seem to him as if he's still in an enclosed space with her eventho he requires her to come outside where he can run away after.
I feel like this would make sense given how breeders are having trouble with pairing these spiders.

@@daveslittlebeasties I'm so glad..I just happen to watch a few visually impaired TH-camrs and I've come to find that it's really helpful when the person uses words to describe what is happening on screen like you do.. it's not the only way they can enjoy it,but what you do is awesome!! I figure sometimes it helps to know what we do that works so we can keep it up 😊😊

Well from what we know homosexuality is extremely common and has been observed in almost all species that we know of or at least a very large majority…no clue how it works with insects or arachnids but hey who knows

woow that was more tension than any thriller or horrormovie i can remember over the last years.
I was on tenterhooks the whole time, worried for the little fella's safety! They are beautiful spiders, and I say that as an arachnophobe.
Now I must check out the next few videos to see if these two had a re-match! It really was epic footage - great job guys!

This was so fascinating. The first time you put him in, it was like a casual first date, where she flirted, he flirted, and then nothing. Then the second one he got her into a frenzy, and off they went. How wild! I felt bad for him, when you helped him up top, he was like 'I won't bite you, just get me outta here, Mate.'
Totally unusual behavior, got pretty hairy towards the end there. Either he wasn't too eager or its the courtship phase that's the longest.
That moment when the female tried to kill him was pure suspense
