I'm pretty sure he was in sport or track mode on the power train that's why car didn't want to change the gears early, McLarens are pretty gentle in normal automatic mode
He could have shifted the Car to Comfort Mode, so the upshifts are quick and we generally move in a higher gear. The car probably was either in Sports or the Track mode. Its fast!
@@chrism869 It's loud as is to be expected with a lightweight supercar. But not too loud to the point of being unbearable. In fact, the 720S is actually one of the smoothest and quietest supercars on the road. McLaren did an awesome job with the suspension and the engine drone.

I've been driving for 27 years now, and today was the first day I learned that a dual carriageway is classed as such because it has a central divide! I always thought it's because of dual lanes/carriageways travelling in each direction. We learn new things every day indeed.
In the beginning given mclarens shoddy build quality of the body panels, panel gaps are actually an issue 😂 he was correct they engineering amazing cars that gap other cars and have panel gaps them selves.
Mid 20s is possible, set it in comfort mode rather than sport! But well done, I thought you would have been speeding but didn't. I've been chastised by other viewers about undertaking, I will mention from now on that you picked up points for doing it! Good fun video.
I also believe that no extra's should be used during your test such as sensors, cameras etc as people need to know how to do it without and not become reliant on the systems, or in a few years the older generation will be parking the younger generations cars for them when there systems fail.

10:24 i could never grasp the push pull method of steering. I cross my hands but wasnt an issue at all on my test. As long as you're in control of the car, it's calm 😌
@@Jake-ie6bi I used push-pull because I thought it was the most correct/safest/best steering method. That is until I got a driving job and had to perform a million 3-point-turns and actually be fast.
Interesting thing I saw and would like to have an explanation. At 11:23 he cut the intersection and was given a minor mistake point however at 13:30 he did exacly the same thing and he was given none. The situation was mostly the same so what was the difference.
He's an experience driver, it's like back to the old school. Good smoothed driving, be proactive, looking for potential hazards awareness and observations, he's doing okay. Good approached to #roundabout, turn left ,take the first exit to new road. Well done😄
He would have to change cars for that kind of driving. Maybe drive an Audi A3 or something. A McLaren 720S is not very good at these low speed town driving trips.
Great video and a great drive by George, im abit of a petrolhead and was also surprised by the car which sounds like its screaming in 1st gear and not changing up as most supercars would do that after the revs are maintrained for a while and would normally change up a gear unless he had the car in race/sport mode so it was holding the lower gear or had it in manual mode and not changing up at times? When he was reverse parking im surprised he wasnt given a minor for not looking directly out the back window to as most instructors would from what ive seen.
Here in Northern Ireland it would be a minor if you are crossing your hands or using one hand and not feeding the steering through both of your hands and it would turn into a serious fault if you do it five times or more
wrong, i took my test in NI a year and a half ago and didn't get any minors or serious faults for crossing my hands, and my instructor never criticised me for doing it.
@@SeanWithaFada The examiner is really supposed to mark you down for that, I sat the taxi test in 2019 and deliberately crossed hands twice during reverse to the left just to see would he mark me and low and behold I had two minors at the end of the test for steering control I did the basic car test in 2008 and was told repeatedly that examiners are serious about steering and observation particularly when doing any manoeuvres but also when driving normally

That's at the hayes test centre where I needed failing my first attempt regardless what I did go through a red light or stop in the keep clear box I would have failed as there was slow traffic.
You are actually allowed to do a driving test in a soft top convertible. I have a 2011 hardtop convertible MX-5 and my local test centre said I couldn't take my test in it, but they have conducted tests in a few soft top MX-5s.

On the highway, if there are three of four lanes, are you still supposed to stay in the left lane? Even if they're all slower than you? I find that if the left lane is full of trucks, it's easier to stay in the middle lane.
if you're in lane 2/3/4 and regularly overtaking other vehicles, it's fine to be there. if you're not overtaking anything in the lane to your left, then you should move left.

Fuel efficiency isn’t really something that supercar owners worry about. Evidently true here because he has no clue, his estimation equates to about 2 or 3 mpg. Even for a supercar this is way off

but they do pay all that, and the result often is worse than mass produced economy cars. hand-built cars almost always have flaws in varying sizes. (obviously in this case the door was open, it wasn't a panel gap.)

It should be changing out of first, perhaps a Sport setting is on! No shoulder check on the merge. 20 miles per tank is not right, 20 mpg more likely.! It's not his car, so I guess you can cut him some slack. He says he is a good driver, but his questions would hint otherwise.
He definately meant 50mpg because there is no way that he gets 50miles in a tank. The 720s should not be that low🤔 it is known for at least 300miles to 400miles on a tank

Crossing your hands is much more efficient, and you can steer much more quickly, the whole feeding the wheel sham is a pile of shit
