Love your videos! Because of you and Pan I've started doing my own detailing. Without your tutorials and input I'd never have the confidence to tackle this myself. Thank you so much!
I have six brands of drying towels and the Griots extra large PFM Edgeless drying towel is my favorite. When you pull it across the panel it does not leave any water behind. It’s incredibly soft and thirsty - 1120gsm. The construction is long looped fibers that are similar to twisted loop towels but the Griots is softer.
Thank god I found your channel bro, it’s hard nowadays to trust people product’s review. I like that you give a fair judgement to cheap consumer grade products as well as professional grade products. I’m just a DIY type of detailed and I’m learning lots from your channel. Keep these videos coming brother, you’re killing it.
Honestly after a certain size it seems very counterproductive, not only is it heavier to carry, but you have to be more careful to not drag it on the ground or get it in the wheel wells, it will make it drag harder along the panels, etc. The smallest towel that is slightly longer than half the width of your roof would be great so long as it can hold enough water. You'd need to do an M or W-pattern wipe across the hood, but that wouldn't take long. If you needed to give it a quick wring before doing the hood that would cost you like 3 sec, but it would still end up faster and easier on a big vehicle or if doing several jobs because you'd get less tired due to the towel being lighter. Also I bet you could get your time down to 60 sec with all of em if you did half the roof, then the side windows, then the doors before moving, but 90 is still great.
I use two brands of drying towels: The Rag Company's "Gauntlet," and Masterson's Car Care drying towel. They're both great towels. The Rag Company's towel is my favorite towel they make. I like the small towels. After I dry the car, I dry my chrome wheels, I dry the door sills and jambs. I dry any water inside the engine compartment that snuck past the weather-stripping. I dry the underside of the drunk lid so that mineral deposits from my hard water don't accumulate excessively. I dry my stainless steel exhaust tips. I also dry the edges underneath the car. EACH of these tasks really benefits from a using a small towel. That said, This magic drying towel intrigues me, and the sale price is pretty competitive. Josh, where you live looks nice. I like the view, but what happened to your hair? You don't look old, but your hair trying to sabotage you! I'm much older than you are, and I cant compete with your mountains of snow. Getting old sucks. Just say "no thank you" to Mother Nature and refuse to participate in her whole "aging" scheme. Someone needs to cool that chick out. Thanks for the video, You always do a good job. Keep it up!!!
From my comparisons of several drying towels, it all comes down to weight. All70/30 towels absorb the typical 5-7X their weight. Weigh the towel and multiply. That is it. Often manufacturers will list the gsm per sq meter. Measure the towel and figure out the weight of that particular towel and you will know how much water it will hold.
Josh - Thanks for this review. I have been using the Rapid Dry Towel since 2019 and it is still in new looking condition. I was in the market for an additional towel and bought the XXL Drying Blanket 100% Korean Microfiber - micro-twist pile cloth. This blanket takes more than a day to hang dry, where as, the Rapid Dry towel is dry by the time I want to dry off the next car. I will be buying another Rapid Dry Towel!
I've used the dreadnaught and gauntlet and both are sub-par when compared to the Griot's PFM drying towel. The PFM will leave the surface of the car almost completely dry for the whole time I am drying, whereas the others either don't pick up all the water immediately or start to leave streaking after the first couple of panels. I was actually disappointed at the Dreadnaught, it just doesn't feel as soft as the other two towels. I also have the HF Grant's drying towel I got for 6 or 7 bucks. It does just as well as the gauntlet but it's a little more resistant to sliding across the surface because the fibers are more tightly woven.
Very good recommendation, the rapid towel 2.0 is better than any of the other towels because they dry much faster. Also Josh recommends the auto fiber reach tool, another amazing tool, makes short work of detailing a vehicle.
Thanks for the video Josh. I just returned a large Gauntlet towel because it was leaving a lot of fibers on the paint as I dried my car. That's unacceptable. I bought a Griot's Garage extra large PFM towel and it's a really awesome performer. I also have a Luxury Microfiber Sucker which works very well too, but the towel isn't as soft as the Griot's Garage item. Keep up the great work!
Yes, it was washed before using. I'm very aware of how to care for microfiber, so that's not an issue. None of my other towels shed like this one did. It might be just one bad towel, but it was enough to keep me from buying another one. @@TheBreakfastLover
As far as the absorbency testing goes you should have weighed each towel before and after dipping it in a bucket of water and see how much they weighed.
I bought one Autofiber Dreadnaught to try it out and it has won me over. Slowly switching to that and retiring my Gauntlet towels. Gauntlet towels as they have aged, now started to absorb even less than when they were new and only really starts to pick up all of the water once the towel is a bit wet. So I usually have to go over half the car twice.
I have a " BOWDENS " towel. Australian brand so not sure if it's sold in the States. Around $40 aud, so currently $28ish usd. much smaller at 36 x 40. But phenomenal drying abilities. My old falcon is 20' long and it dries very well. the odd streak & drip. But I go around with a dryer afterwards. Then maguires quick detail. Very fast from start to finish. Looks like the bigger towels might do even better. But after the whole car is done, I can't wring out a single drop, but takes a good 2hrs to dry. Great vid so thank you ;)
You bet! I still love twist loops as well and the meganought is probably my favorite but for those who want a lighter weight but large towel this thing is awesome
Hi great video and appreciate the work you put in. One issue I have with it is all of the towels say to wash before first use. I feel like this isnt a fair comparison without that unfortunately.

i was really surprised by the chemical guys drying towel from walmart, i had been using their 2 packs of red and gray drying towels for $10. for work i needed to grab some drying towels quick. went to walmart and they were out of my go to towels, so i purchased the $20 chemical guys towel which is double the price, for one towel.. but ive rally come to like it.. its very soft, large.. Im able to dry tundra’s and grand highlanders easily.. i do have a few of the rag company towels, which i love.. the dry me a river towels, and the gauntlet.. but have been saving them for my personal business. Since im paying out or pocket for company use.. but definitely recommend the chemical guys towel at walmart
@@imjoshv sweet i only listen to your recommendations so Im glad to hear that. Ive noticed with the Lquid8r over time washing and hang drying it loses some of its drying ability. Thanks so much ill be sure to use your link!
Great video Josh. I've been seeing the advertisements and have been skeptical about it. Thanks for testing it! I'll probably order two while the sale is still on. I have to ask. This is the 2nd video with the Rebel in the background. Is it yours? Lunar edition? I have a 21 and absolutely love it.
Yea my wife really wanted it so I got it for her for Christmas! It was hard to find the lunar edition. There none around me so i had to go to Vegas to get it! But its an awesome truck!
Excellent videos, just getting into the game. Doing a few cars here and there to work up my clientele. Which Dixxon Flannel are you rocking by the way? Looks Good!
I have the gauntlet towel, it's terrible. Even after washing it with recommended detergent and hang drying, all it does it push water around. Only seems to do half decent if I pre-soak it in a pail of water first and wring it out. I always run a self clean cycle in my washer before cleaning my microfibre towels, so it isn't residual soap (don't use fabric softeners at all). I don't know what the issue is with this particular towel when all my others are perfectly fine.
Do you use a drying aid or something with protection when using the towel? That can seal the towel which means it will want to repel water ad not absorb it
@imjoshv Never. The only drying aid I use is elbow grease. Five minutes to dry my Challenger with the gauntlet. It's only this towel, even my box of cheap costco brand 12x12's do a better job. I thought maybe it's because the cars are waxed (TW ceramic+graphene paste), but it's cured for at least a week before I maintenance wash again, and my other towels aren't affected. Maybe I just got a dud.
Another amazing review!! We need people like you to review products so the beginners know where to invest their money on!! Is it possible for you to do a review on the spta 8mm D/A polisher, I saw the reviews on the cordless spta but I want to start with something of a lower budget and it’s one that caught my eye and it would help a lot if I got a review from a reliable source
The Griot's Garage G8 & G9 combo purchase deal that just passed was very good value. This newb jumped in on that smokin deal. Lifetime "limited" warranty, as well.
What about using a BLO heated dryer? Would you use that to dry off first and then touch up with the towel, or use the towel first and finish off with heated air?
Yea those blow dryer tools are awesome and I use them all the time! Typically I dry with a towel to get the bulk, then use the blower to get the water out of all the tight spots and then hit it with another towel. That’s my process so that there are no residual drips
@@imjoshv thanks for the reply. Thanks to your recommendations, I’ve started up my home kit. I just got a ‘23 GR Corolla, and I’m trying to keep it as new as possible. I got a Ryobi 2300 psi pressure washer, 50’ uberflex pressure hose, McKillams stubby gun, quick connect fittings, MJJC foam cannon from your site, flexzilla garden hose, all based on your reviews. I also picked up some 3.5G buckets with the grit-guards, drying towels, microfiber wash mitt, BLO heated dryer, plus some V07 quick detail spray. Now, I have to wait for the weather to get warm up so I can actually try it all out…
A good test would have been to weigh the towel in with a bucket, fill it with water, then remove the saturated towel from bucket and see how much weight of water has been removed from the bucket with the towel.
Its a great towel! i was actually shocked to see if left the most streaks behind because Im always so happy with it when using it.. I think its the pluch portions but at the same time i like that part as well as it keeps it soft. Like i mentioned, i love using the gauntlet as my final wipe to pick up the drips!
Hey Josh, thanks for the video and I appreciate what you do. I’m curious what’s your view on Chamois’s ? I’ve used them for years but I can’t find a video on them from you? Thanks again, and hopefully you can shed some light on this !
just saw his video on shamys before this one. they are great, he used them at the beginning but not anymore cus of waffle weave microfiber ones youtu.be/ 0pQ89gmodq4
You didn't ask for my opinion, but you're getting it anyways, and I'm not charging you for it, so consider it valuable bonus. I don't know anyone that uses chamois for car care, cleaning, or drying. I don't use one, and can't imagine doing so. Plus you realize that chamois come from these darling-looking little deer. I don't know how many chamois one micro-deer makes, but it seems kind of mean to "off" a little helpless deer just for their skin. Now if you at their venison too, I'd be all in with small-deer-genocide, but I think it would be aw stretch to get even six tacos out of one of these little chamois deer.
@@salvadormonella8953 Agree with you, maybe it’s regional, but in the States chamois are made from sheep.🐑 I Read in Europe they are made from mountain Goats. Now they need to work on those leather seats. In motorcycles, the marine grade vinyl is more durable than leather on the seat.
WHAT? Don't stand for that! Especially not from a woman, any woman, and especially not from a spouse. Put your foot down, Tell her what you're doing, or doing even bother, but don't let her boss, or try to boss you around. She should be listening to everything you say and doing everything you ask of her, If she isn't, ask her WHY she isn't. Wives are supposed to support their husbands. Remember your wedding vows? "For Better of for Worse." I know wedding vows vary, but my wife & I eloped and had a civil magistrate marry us, and the husband wife's vows were different. I had to "love and cherish" her, and she had to "honor and obey" me. Whether she said those things, just tell her she did but forgot, and that she vowed to obey you, vowed before God & the entire wedding party. So she oughta get to the obeying part of her promise. Good luck. People will just walk all over you if you let them, EXPECIALLY women, and MOST ESPECIALLY wives. She $hit my wife tries to get away with! Even though women tend to live longer, men tend too age better. Use that to your advantage.
That could be the towel, or could be some other factor, like a problem with your paint protection or the towel being compromised by chemicals. Where I live the water is REALLY hard, and I have a difficult time even cleaning towels effectively. I've aske microfiber towel companies for towel cleaning advice, but they're generally useless, and would rather just sell me another towel. At this point, I use only the highest quality microfiber towel detergent. I make sure the washing machine tub (and other parts as much as possible) are clean and free of left over fabric softeners or other chemicals. I scrub out the tube and clean the mach9ine regularly. I also don't wash towels right after a load of regular laundry is washed. After I wash the towels and the machine does two rinse cycles, I do another "speed wash" without any towel detergent or other soap. Just water. After I wash towels maybe 4 or 5 times, I try to de-mineralize them by putting vinegar in the fabric softener cup. I also will add a small amount of washing soda to a load to augment the micro-fiber cleaning detergent and to dry and soften the water. It isn't a perfect solution, but I find it "mostly" works. Some company's towels are easier to keep clean than others. For some towels it's just impossible to clean them. Chemical Guys' towels, for example, are horrible. Adam's towels are pretty darn good, as are Masterson's Car Care drying towels (specifically). Good luck!!!
Are u referring to the nanoskin non acid wheel and tire cleaner? It's my go to. Dilute 1:4, a gallon is under $20, gives me five gallons of product and works fantastic. Been using it with a marolex foamer for several years now. Can't beat the value and the performance.
Hey brother. I was wondering if there's an Email or txt where I can send you pictures I've got with questions about my set up with my foam cannon and pressure washer
Great video Josh! So I'm good friends with the owner of a small detail business called Nighthawk Brand. They make alot of detail products, but their drying towels are the best I've ever used! I've used all the TRC towels, Dreadnought etc and these towels are literally insane. These are the most absorbent towels I've ever used. They have a 1600 gsm towel called the DTX6, and a 2000 gsm towel called the DTXX. Both are 75/25 blend. If you're interested, I could probably have him send you one of each to test! Those towels are pretty popular on TikTok, but haven't made it on TH-cam yet. You've been one of my favorite detail TH-camrs since forever and I think it would be cool to see your opinion on these towels! Let me know if you're interested and I'll see what I can do!
@@williewilson4066 That's what I'm saying! I don't even want to make any commission off any sale, I just want the word on this towel and Nighthawk brand to spread. I also owe a lot of my business purchases to Josh. Thanks to his reviews, I didn't have to waste money on subpar stuff
The worst thing for drying towels is not the ground. Its the drying aids and spray waxes that totally ruin drying towels. Some spray on waxes like Turtle wax flex ceramic spray wax goes on while wet. And it does not wash out even with p&s rags to riches
Yea people ask me all the time and I do think drying aids help to add slickness when drying but for me I hate when it clogs up my towel and then it doesn’t absorb
Drying aids and other chemicals are not the WOSST thing for drying towels, it's fire. Drying towels loathe fire and do not react well to its presence, turning into a flaming puddle of molten plastic when fire has gotten too close.
Crazy that they put a tag on for ‘regulations’ but didn’t even have to put the fabric blend on it? Every fabric has that. They should be transparent and tell you. I’ll stick to the Liquid8r :)
And to impress the chicks. Cars impress girls, and weight scales are car towel adjacent, and car towels are car adjacent, so scales turn women on by proxy. I thought this was common knowledge and that everyone knew this.

Now, I have to wait for the weather to get warm up so I can actually try it all out…
are those car glo products (behind you, next to KCx) any good?
Thanks for the Review!
You bet!
You ever tried sud labs towel? They claim 1100gsm and there always great on budget 1 for 20 $ or 2 for 30$
I haven’t used it but it’s a twist loop sonic sure it’s very similar to the dreadnought I used in the video. I really like suds labs stuff!
A good test would have been to weigh the towel in with a bucket, fill it with water, then remove the saturated towel from bucket and see how much weight of water has been removed from the bucket with the towel.
Just ordered two towels through your link. Hope you get affiliate credit.
How often do you wash your drying towels? Since you're drying a clean car.
For me, every time.
I really like the Gauntlet a lot….pretty much all I use.
Old tech that can scratch. Microfiber is safer. Washable also.
Thanks, I wish my wife would let me wash my car as much as you do without complaining 😆
Dang. I guess my high school math teacher was right. I will use it sometime later in life.
Haha, i think the same thing everytime i do this.
How about waffle drying towel?
For some reason I can't get drying towels to work well for me. They leave a lot of water behind and streaking.
What are your thoughts on the Nanoskin ph neutral wheel cleaner,Have you tried it ?
I haven’t tried it yet, I’ll check it out!
Good question I never see anyone talking about nanoskin products
Theyre good value too. Im also curious and dont see many user reviews @KingDaDetailer
Are u referring to the nanoskin non acid wheel and tire cleaner? It's my go to. Dilute 1:4, a gallon is under $20, gives me five gallons of product and works fantastic. Been using it with a marolex foamer for several years now. Can't beat the value and the performance.
@kirkwilson5900 I use superior products they are good and cost effective as well
i watched this video again for the MOHs.
Hey brother. I was wondering if there's an Email or txt where I can send you pictures I've got with questions about my set up with my foam cannon and pressure washer
Griots PFM FTW
your not worried about the edges???
If you could only buy one, what would it be ?
For me the Meganought since i can get so much done with it. But not ecveryone likes how big and heavy it gets
MEGAnought - XXXL Twist Pile Microfiber Drying Towel (69 in. x 42 in., 1100gsm) owner and fan here.
So the new rapid drying towel was The best for drying?
Yeah but which one made the car look best
What year is your porsche ? Have you had to put much money into it to keep it driving
Its a 2015. Ive had it for about 3 years now and maintenance has been very easy so far (knock on wood)
Awesome, it's a beautiful car
Is DTLR a walk in retail store?
Not yet… I do have someone shipping in the warehouse though so if you wanted to arrange pick up we could do that
@@imjoshv Okay, thanks
Hey your a biker! I knew your content was trustworthy. Tell us about your bike sometime.
I’m still like “not a chance “ some voodoo
I’ve gotten my whole car wash set up through Josh ok if he ok this towel I’ll definitely get one
@@williewilson4066 That's what I'm saying! I don't even want to make any commission off any sale, I just want the word on this towel and Nighthawk brand to spread. I also owe a lot of my business purchases to Josh. Thanks to his reviews, I didn't have to waste money on subpar stuff
Same from the one comes from China
The worst thing for drying towels is not the ground. Its the drying aids and spray waxes that totally ruin drying towels. Some spray on waxes like Turtle wax flex ceramic spray wax goes on while wet. And it does not wash out even with p&s rags to riches
Yea people ask me all the time and I do think drying aids help to add slickness when drying but for me I hate when it clogs up my towel and then it doesn’t absorb
@@imjoshv yep exactly. It ruins towels
Drying aids and other chemicals are not the WOSST thing for drying towels, it's fire. Drying towels loathe fire and do not react well to its presence, turning into a flaming puddle of molten plastic when fire has gotten too close.
@6:27 aint that what she said? lolz. Sorry. Couldnt help myself.
I prefer a smaller towel.
Everyone has their preference and I can see the ease of handling a small towel is fantastic
Crazy that they put a tag on for ‘regulations’ but didn’t even have to put the fabric blend on it? Every fabric has that. They should be transparent and tell you.
I’ll stick to the Liquid8r :)
Cop:Im charging you for Paraphernalia.
Me:But officer i use scale to weigh my towels.
And to impress the chicks. Cars impress girls, and weight scales are car towel adjacent, and car towels are car adjacent, so scales turn women on by proxy. I thought this was common knowledge and that everyone knew this.
Could you cut the larger towels into maybe 5-6 smaller towels... or maybe even 3?
