I think the FIA should allow some Grade 2 circuits to join the calendar. Obviously, this would mean that these Grade 2 circuits have to be judged much more thoroughly but I think circuits like Kyalami, Fuji, and the like would be amazing for F1!
I think F1 should race at the Daytona International Speedway, but the road course layout. The NASCAR Cup Series has had great races for the last 2 years, so I think F1 would have a great race there.
I would like to see F1 at least run some sort of exhibition race there on the oval, but the high banking and ground effect setups for the cars would probably put too much of a physical strain on the drivers.
The Argentine circuits of Termas de Río Hondo and Potrero de los Funes would be very interesting for a grand prix. It would be good to know how the Buenos Aires racetrack would look after the changes.
You are either 12 or are sick if your definition of "Fun" is 1000hp cars flying around poorly maintained surfaces with haybales as barriers. These grading systems exist for a reason, things can go wrong really fast in motorsports and when they do, they ain't fun, it's better to be safe then sorry.
To be fair, this just sounds like another day in the office for me. Buildings also have a lot of rules to follow, so really it’s definitely a lot more achievable then you probably think..
I guess the land area a building takes is WAAAAAAY lower than a circuit, with all the accommodations. Add to this the construction process and costs. Laying down asphalt isn't quite cheap either. After the building is done, your costs go down to pratically zero, while the circuit must expend huge amounts of money with personel on a race day. The building maintenance cost is nowhere near comparable to the costs of maintaining a track. I think you're optimistic about the 'achievability' of constructing a grade-1 circuit.
"There are standards that need to be met." Tell that to Monaco. The only reason that dinosaur is on the schedule is because of the gambling money it brings in, otherwise no one would watch that 70 lap parade.

My wish is that Anderstorp (Swedish Grand Prix) gets added to the calander. Sadly tho. I think a lot of work is needed to be done around the track to make it F1 ready. They were supposed to be building new pit facilities in Montreal so I suspect they were waiting for that to be finished before renewing the grade 1 licence there.
Yes for Hockenheim, the OLD track, with the blasts out into the forest and then returning to the stadium. My main interest is GP bikes and the massive crowd would go crazy if a German rider was in the lead. I’m sure it would be the same if a German F1 driver was leading into the stadium.

@1 1 Monaco is hype until the actual race itself far more often than no. If it wasn't for the location, no one would miss it.
Mondello Park is Grade 4, which I found out after 1999 when Jordan fought for the championship and I wondered "Can we have an Irish Grand Prix?" Mondello is a track some may not have heard of, which is surprising considering Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen are among the names of drivers who have won races there in junior categories.
F1 cars wouldn't get out of 5th gear at mondello lol
So does Monaco ACTUALLY qualify as a Grade 1 circuit (even if we ignore the length issue)? I think a video on this would be interesting. Or if not just Monaco, a video gathering ALL of the “exceptions” (including the length of Spa) into 1 vid.
We need a race in *Kyalami*
But the 70's track, the current version is a bit too twisty
*to make a real world championship we need the continent*
@@FranzFridl it may be raceable after some tweaks
@@mriduldubey1883 yeah it's not too far off, I would be happy to Finally go watch an f1 race at the grand stands without having to watch the races on TV
The current version is fine, theres nothing wrong with it
Kayalami is on par and South Africa used to host the 1st race of the season. They rebuilt the track to be up to par if not better but was not mentioned in tracks race ready?
Many old circuits fail these requirements… which is sort of why older circuits often produce better racing until they’re fucked up by refurbishments…
This was a pretty cool video. A lot of little nuances that the FIA requires. It’s cool to get a glimpse at content such as this. REALLY dig and appreciate the video! 🏎
Well, it takes some money and that’s really it, just put it in someone’s backyard
Matthew should be an f101 school teacher.
I think the FIA should allow some Grade 2 circuits to join the calendar. Obviously, this would mean that these Grade 2 circuits have to be judged much more thoroughly but I think circuits like Kyalami, Fuji, and the like would be amazing for F1!
The Pescara track was a death circuit. At one straight end you basically had the option Wall or Water if you missed the braking zone.
You know, there’s still MotorLand Aragon for the Spanish GP, Magny-Cours for the French GP and the Moscow Raceway for the Russian GP.....
Anyone?
Magny-Cours is too narrow apparently.
And Igora Drive’s replacing Sochi in 2023
Hi from sydney 👋🏽 it’s 1:40am and I should be sleeping but then ur vid popped up and I couldn’t resist ...
Respect for the quick flashing of the Indianapolis Pagoda. Indianapolis is F1 ready... as long as the proper "tires" are used. ;)
I wonder how much it would cost if you had a big enough plot of land, to build a new circuit from scratch, including design and inspections etc.
If you have to ask..... .
2:57 - 3:10 when you said that got me thinking about the Interlagos start/finish straight
The start finish straight is pretty much flat, the kinks before don't count
@@eoghanburke2581 but it's like a rollercoaster: on the start line it's a uphill and on the senna s it's a downhill that's way I'm saying
@@felliphemaciel the senna esses aren't a part of the pit straight
Matt is such a legend from Xmattyg to WTF1.
oh, you've discouraged me setting up an F1 circuit now, thanks Matt.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. We need Road America on the F1 calendar
F1: How wide is your track?
Monaco: No
The Argentine circuits of Termas de Río Hondo and Potrero de los Funes would be very interesting for a grand prix.
It would be good to know how the Buenos Aires racetrack would look after the changes.
Please do a video to show what would be necessary to make Kyalami up to scratch. I am a south african and I would love to get a South African GP.
“Why can’t F1 race at any track”
Because F1 hates fun that’s why.

Cry
So, do you have a video about the requirements to do F1 racing in street circuits?
Such as Monaco, Baku, Singapore, Las Vegas, and (supposedly) Hanoi?
I just hope Portimão gets a permanent licence. I would dream of at least 1 race in Estoril tho.
Wish Kyalami could be updated to F1 certification again!
Sochi actually fails some points like the turn 1 45º rulle, it has less than that
"There are standards that need to be met." Tell that to Monaco. The only reason that dinosaur is on the schedule is because of the gambling money it brings in, otherwise no one would watch that 70 lap parade.
Well, I actually love the challenge drivers have to take on to drive on that very Old-School circuit on nowadays' cars... Still, it offers plenty technical and agonistic talking points.
tbh Monaco 2021 was quite boring. Well done to Lando and Carlos, but apart from that it wasn't great.
Edit. 78 laps
@@paulpenketh9435 yes, thanks for the correction.
I just want a South African GP again...
I love Kyalami, but would it be able to handle modern F1 cars? Honest question, not trying to mock or anything.
@@Xariama Thank you fot that, honestly I'd say it could be able to handle a modern GP, the only possible exceptions being that it may need more grand stands and facilities such as toilets. The circuit recently got redone, including the road surface and all the apexes etc.
I really hope Montreal comes back next year 🤞🏻
You sort of blew by the pit lane requirements. Tiny little pit boxes like we have in the U.S. for NASCAR and IndyCars won't cut it -- the facilities have to be fit for the kings of the F1 contingency, not to mention there has to be room for those teams "mobile buildings", or whatever you call them.
I’m gonna be honest. I clicked this thinking it was a Chain Bear video. Got really surprised when Matt started talking 😂
They are actually the same guy. Some days Matty wears the Bear suit, some days it’s Stuart. The chains are just a figment of our collective imagination. 🤪

Thank you however calling this a detailed look is a bit of stretch isn't? But a great overview of the main rules and I think it is enough to get the idea
Probably the best F1 channel without any F1 on it.
Course if you are Saudi Arabia then you can get away with anything, with the track only being completed a couple of days before the first practice session last December
Road America and F1 ... That would be 😍🤩
Watkins Glen used to host F1 races also.
I can really recommend chainbears video on this topic too !
Video: What does it take for a circuit to be F1 ready?
Simple. It needs to be designed by Hermann Tilke, suck, or both.
Racing in Argentina and South Africa back on the menu, please.
My wish is that Anderstorp
(Swedish Grand Prix) gets added to the calander. Sadly tho. I think a lot of work is needed to be done around the track to make it F1 ready. The track hasn't been used as an F1 track since 1978 or something. The track is still getting used for other things. so it isn't abandoned.
10 months later and yet Another Usa GP been anounced. De don't need 3 races in the same country.😒
Wow I found this really useful...I can't wait to get the new f1 2021 game!!
4:11 India's Buddh circuit media room 😭😭😭😭 please come back F1 !!
I like how information dense this was. I enjoy watching your videos but sometimes I feel like they're a little light on the details.
oh man, guess theres never gonna be a gp where i live 😭
So interesting! Thanks for this!
They were supposed to be building new pit facilities in Montreal so I suspect they were waiting for that to be finished before renewing the grade 1 licence there.
Can you do a video on marshal roles and other trackside roles
You make good videos, on a regular basis
Can you make a video about what happend to the danish grandprix (that never took place)?
The answer is : A lot, but if you have a lot of money, everything can be discussed.
The lengrh of the current cars means that the turning circle of them is too wide for the corners on some tracks that have hosted F1 in the past.
I wish Mugello and Hockenheim were still on the schedule
Yes for Hockenheim, the OLD track, with the blasts out into the forest and then returning to the stadium. My main interest is GP bikes and the massive crowd would go crazy if a German rider was in the lead. I’m sure it would be the same if a German F1 driver was leading into the stadium.
Am I the only one who really likes Sochi?! Like on the sims, it’s just so fun to drive-even though good luck overtaking
I hope F1 races in Kyalami one so that I can go watch my fist Grand Prix in South Africa like Lewis said!
Is “The circuit de la Sarthe” Ok for Formula 1? It would be better than Paul Ricard but ,is it suitable?
No way lol
No, its full of public roads and its only used as a one off for the WEC, like Monaco for F1. We can race there, but it's too long for F1 and the gearboxes would be under immense pressure at the Mulsanne straight
So here's a thing that confuses me:- IndyCar is an FIA sanctioned series, and FIA grading rules appear to be related to PWR of the cars. With the new hybrid Indycar specs, they're going to fall into the F1 category of
Can you do a video about why F1 cars still have wheels? Twenty years ago today would be the future.
