@Bawkzers Just communicate and be transparent. Most of the time they will appreciate that you let them know you want to mess with their settings for a better clean.
Tip: if you clean with vertical strokes inside the car, use horizontal strokes on the outside of the windshield. That way you can tell which side any smudges are on.
Detailer here…. Two waffle weave microfiber towels, and a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Either spray onto windshield or first towel, and clean the windshield… Then use the second towel to fully dry and buff out any leftover streaks.
thank you ! 🤗 just two days ago I sat on my partner's car and asked to turn the windshield wipers on , only to realise the fogginess was on the inside 😅 🤦 now thanks to your videos we know how we can clean it 🙂
I quite literally did this yesterday to my mom’s car before she went on a weekend trip. I wish this had been posted 24 hours ago. I would’ve used straight alcohol and better quality towels. I used my diy cleaner with Dawn and alcohol and a stack of cheap Amazon basics microfiber towels. It worked perfectly well, but it took forever to dry up all the moisture and buff the streaks. Next time, I’ll do it this way and save myself the back pain.
Yep, most bottles can take spray nozzles. I put a nozzle on my apple cider vinegar for when I smoke meats, rather than wasting a little bit or having to refill a whole other spray bottle.
Yes and yes. Excellent suggestions! Only thing I might add is that if you have a lot of buildup from degassing of the plastics in the car like the dash and trim pieces, you'll end up with an oily plastic byproduct coating it. Window cleaner usually won't touch that, and isopropyl ends up making the scrubbing/buffing process for that 2nd towel take much longer than necessary because it's not QUITE powerful enough. If that's the case, using either a heavy-duty degreaser (Super Clean, etc) or a great dish soap (like Dawn, consumer or pro versions) will make really quick work of that film and it can be easily wiped away. I use acetone personally, because it's even quicker and easier, but that's a big risk because it can damage the trim permanently quite quickly, so thats a "use at your own risk" product for this. Also, i find that getting a windshield tool like they have at the auto parts store really helps a lot, and if you open the door and stand OUTSIDE the car while using it instead of sitting in one of the seats, the uncomfortable arm contortions are kept to a minimum. It's way more comfortable in my opinion, especially when you're doing detail work all day for a living like myself. Gotta keep your body in as good shape as possible for that job, as you well know in yours! Regardless, this is a GREAT guide to the basics, and I'm so glad to see someone promoting the two towel method and isopropyl alcohol. Those are mainstays in my line of work, and it's refreshing to see someone get the correct information out. Well done, sir, great quality content as usual!
After my mom passed away, I got her car. No matter what I did, the windshield was always dirty. Looking up guides and watching this video, I realized a few things that my dad told me was wrong. My dad told me that I should be using paper towels, or ideally, newspaper. Everything I've looked up since tells me that's completely wrong and your video confirms that I should be using microfiber cloth. Thanks for this video. I have a good feeling about my windshield now.
Your dad's suggestion of newspaper is old school. That was the #1 way to wash windows "back in the day" ... way before the invention of microfiber cloths. Sweet though outdated.
@gradysullivan6679 No, I'm not. Have you seen his videos? The guy cleans some of the most disgusting and hardest things to clean in the most efficient, professional and pain-free way possible. Can you do that?
I did what another poster recommended, use a magic eraser with water and dry with microfiber. The next day my windshield is so clear. No more greasy streaks from dashboard off gasing. This works better than windex, detailer spray, degreaser wipes.
I've tried so SO many things for the inside of a windshield before (including this method) and the only thing that works 100% of the time is treating it like you're washing up a glass in your sink. Just use whatever detergent you use to do the dishes, warm water and a sponge. You don't want the sponge sopping wet obviously but you do want enough detergent/water in it to cut through all the grime. Then you dry and buff with a microfiber towel. Absolutely zero streaks or haze every single time. I do like the towel on the dashboard idea though because when you're doing the dry and buff step you can't let it touch the dash.
@@moneyguyfly6583 My cars have multiple drivers unfortunately so it's only a few months before someone rubs their hand on the glass for some reason or throws some muddy gloves on the dash etc. Around 4 months is the longest I've had it last until something like that happens.
Two towels is absolutely essential. Otherwise you're just taking the filmy residue buildup, dissolving it a little with the cleaner and swirling it around a little, and then letting it dry right back on the windshield once the cleaner evaporates off. You're left with the same film, just moved around a bit. The second towel will actually soak up and wipe off all the crud and oily mess, though, even if it can take some serious elbow grease to get all of it off if it's been building up for a while. Then when it's all dry, no streaks from the buildup will appear because you took it all off with that second towel. This works great on car windows/windshields, but it's also super effective on residential windows and other glass (shower doors, etc.), and it'll get your mirrors perfectly streak free, too!
You have very pleasant presentation qualities 👍 I also like the additional contribution of the comments below, some good ones. I love clean windshield. I hate hate hate this job. So optimizing the effort is key. So consider also: -Clean the easier outside, prior to working so hard on that inside glass, -In the presence of any Sun heat at all, never use 90% alcohol - because it dissipates so quickly, almost no time to act as a solvent on nasties - also streaks always. The more common 50% or 70% are preferable because water in the alcohol provides more time to act as solvent on the nasties, before it evaps. -On inside glass, my in-flexible hands are always defeated by the diabolical angles of glass, reducing my pressure and contact surface area - I'm not Gumby (so I frequently have my wife do the inside). **But you're wearing those clean, high friction gloves - those dramatically increase my ability to apply my cleaning cloth.
I’ve always used newspaper to wipe the spray cleaner on my interior and exterior windows, both car and home. It wipes and dries to a completely streak-free clean. Just turn it around to the dry side when doing so. And use as much of the paper as you can.
I have always tried to clean windows in good sunlight. You need to dry it quickly but at least you can see all the streaks. I use detergent for an initial wash, water with a drop of vinegar to rinse and prevent water marks. I used to use endless amounts of paper towels being careful to avoid scratching the glass but you can wash and dry microfibre cloths so I will give those a go. I notice you wore gloves! Great way to avoid grease from your fingers going onto the cloths and windows!! Thanks.
Two things I find work well for me: first, never clean your windows in the sun ANYTIME. Second, I live in northern Canada, so it gets pretty cold in winter. Even if it is pretty cold out, you can use -35° (winter) windshield washer fluid in a spray bottle to clean your interior windows, especially the windshield. Do not spray cold fluid onto a warm window as the different temperatures may cauase the glass to shatter; best to clean, then warm. I've been doing this for many years with no streaks either. One day I had to clean my semi's cab windows, but there was no "glass cleaner" available. So, a clean windshield being a must, I just used the WW fluid. I've been doing it ever since. Cheers.
I did exactly as you said and upon finishing, (and feeling proud of finally such a good job) a seagull flew over crapped mightily on my windshield. The alcohol I used after that was for me.
Bro lol fuck birds now fr every since I got my scat 2 months ago I clean it go back out lil later either shit or pollen everywhere lol. Cars red so they absolutely target it
I use the one-big towel, one-small towel, one squeegee, and one can of spray method. Lay out the big towel on the dash. Spray the windshield. Squeegee the spray off. Use the small towel to carefully wipe what the squeegee missed. I have a small squeegee I got online. It's maybe 6 inches across and really easy to use in the tight space between windshield and dash.
Great cleaning tip, my windshield is filthy! Was wondering the best way to clean it, perfect timing for the video. And how did I not know that you had a TH-cam channel until today? Just subscribed. Thank you Brandon for all your cleaning knowledge!
Nice tip! Use dishwashing liquid warm water to clean the windshield , squeegee the excess, then use distilled water and alcohol 50/50 … it will be even more effective , I know it’s a process 😅
I've done this and it works great! Another great use of the alcohol in a spray bottle is insect killer. When the weather is nice and we sit on the porch in the evenings we each have a bottle! If a gnat or mosquito drifts by, spray it and it immediately drops to the ground. We also use it on stink bugs and other pests. I also have a bottle by the kitchen sink for any gnats or fruit flies. The only thing we have found that it damages is finished wood so we avoid that.
@Msdanny2410 It really works! We sat on the porch this evening and it's like target practice spraying bugs! One thing I like about it is that it dries and doesn't leave a trace or residue on anything, even my screens.
After cleaning inside and outside, go back and put Rain-X inside and outside….you’ll be glad you did in winter with a clear view, no fogging, no ice sticking….
aren't you supposed to use a separate RainX product for the interior of windows? i thought they had it formulated differently for window fog or something
I like using Hunger Easy glide glass cleaner diluted 4:1 in a 32 oz Spray bottle and mircofiber scrubbing tube and waffle weave towels . The waffle weave don’t grab the glass like regular microfiber. I use a squeegee, like the one have . This works great . If the windshield is really jacked up . I made use a clay bar , magic eraser and plastic razor blades !
I’ve had trouble with the haziness on the inside of my windshield.. the only thing that got all of that nastiness off was 2 drops of dawn in hot water .. then rinse with clear water using a microfiber and done ✅ 😉
So in many cases it’s best to get one of the special kits to restore them. That being said I did have some success a while back with this hack - www.tiktok.com/t/ZPR7s4aeN/ Once the oxidation is gone it’s also a good idea to look into sealing them if possible.
Will try it today...one of the most challenging things to attempt is cleaning glass, especially a windshield, and getting it streak- and smudge-free. Where do you obtain the Spray Away and do you wash the cloths in the laundry rather than by hand? I just wonder if laundry product residue causes streaking
You can find Sprayway at most big box stores and over on Amazon. When it comes to my microfiber towels I like to wash them separately, I actually have video on my process here - th-cam.com/video/w92Qi-Lnz8M/w-d-xo.html

Ive clean my windshield but it legit looks like its peppered with tiny holes and when i put my wipers on it sound like there debris on the glass ill check the blades and there clean should i clay bar my window? This window is only 4 or 5 years old
if you go up and down wiping on the inside go side to side on the outside. then if there are any spots you need to go over you know which side of the glass to do

Is alchohol reccomended to use on windshield if ceramic UV film is installed? It for sure cuts through car wash soap residue and oil on my exterior glass.
I have found through long experience, NOT to use spray on cleaners of any type. I use one clean rag using hot water to clean and one clean rag to wipe dry. It takes several applications to "train" your window(s), but lasts for months. Microfiber rags are nice, but leave a thin film of microfiber particles when viewed in certain lights. Probably better than cotton rags though unless you have repeatedly used the cotton rags hundreds of times and used them only for washing windows. When in a car wash or detail shop, do NOT let them clean the insides of the windows or you will have to start over again in training your windows.
Warm is fine. It can even be cold in nice weather. If a warm day (never do it on a hot day as the water dries faster than you can wipe dry), don't completely wring it out so that gives you time to dry wipe adequately.
I think most of us really want to know if it’s tinted safe for windows, but I wouldn’t wish to see how you would do it with the foam too like, do you put it directly to the glass since there’s the sun or on the microfiber
Ouuuf ta.... that alcohol mist right after spraying... I suggest backing out for just a few seconds and allow it to fall on the towel, rather than your eyes or breathe it in. Besides that, I will try your suggestion, because I just did mine with the stuff at the gas station and they are not clean, very frustrating. Thank you!
Amazing tip! Can you spray a 50% IPA version straight into a tinted windshield (btw our tint is a 50% suntek window tint) or do you need to dilute it with some distilled water?
How to clean the back inside window of a Toyota Camry which has a sharp slope - I can’t quite reach it well with my arms even with my knees on the seat and facing backwards. Thx!
A teaspon of dawn detergent in a spray bottle filled with distilled water is always the best glass clean, will pull out more evaporated oils that cling to the windshield than isopropyl IMHO
I've tried so many things for the inside of the glass and they have all failed. Why? Because most of the hazy film on the inside of the windshield is off-gassing from the petroleum based finishes in the car, like the dash. I don't know why I didn't think of alcohol. That should cut right through it. Ironically, so does plain water. You can wet a microfiber towel with water so that it's barely moist, wipe, and everything is gone. However, it does come back within a week. No matter how old your car is, if it has a plastic based dash, it will off-gas petroleum vapors. I can't think of a single "normal" car that doesn't have a plastic based dash. Maybe some of the super high-end cars don't, but few drive those. Have a hazy windshield and have to drive into the morning or late evening sun? You can't see anything. Still difficult to see with a clean windshield, but it's not nearly as horrible. In this case, driving into the sun is dangerous, and is made worse by window haze. I'll give he alcohol a try!
You have no idea how important this is. I almost been in terrible accidents because of those windshield smears and I almost hit someone. I clean them but they always end up dirty and it’s so infuriating .
Drop the steering wheel all the way down so it's not in your way as much

Using alcohol sucks btw lol... Sprayway is nice stuff Sams club has got value packs!!
EXCELLENT VIDEO
please NOTE... No Need for Background Noise/Music
We just want to HEAR YOU TALK.
Thank You for sharing this GREAT Video.
Brandon, when cleaning the outside of the windshield did you use the glass cleaner Sprayaway or alcohol? Thanks!
Ive clean my windshield but it legit looks like its peppered with tiny holes and when i put my wipers on it sound like there debris on the glass ill check the blades and there clean should i clay bar my window? This window is only 4 or 5 years old
That man is the truth
if you go up and down wiping on the inside go side to side on the outside. then if there are any spots you need to go over you know which side of the glass to do
Use a swiffer with some of the extensions removed to make it squeegee length and put a shop towel on it. This works for both outside or inside.
I love this channel.
I was going to request this the next time you asked us for requests. Perfect timing!
That’s awesome to hear!
How often does he ask for requests?
I haven't washed a weighted blanket (which I try to minimally use because of)
I usually vacuum clean it but idk how to wash it and would love tips.
"cleaning the inside of your windshield can... be... tricky..."
oh?? can it??? can it 'be tricky'?!
I had no idea! even when I decided to search youtube for help!!
super grateful you let us know that it can be tricky before anything else, just so we all know what we are getting into - otherwise I'd have been in WAY over my head by the time I even found a towel to use
* (sincere note to the creator, if they happen to read this: angry sarcasm not *really* directed at you specifically - if anything it's the culture of 'how-to' videos that waste time on commentary, trivia, marginally useful/ entirely useless info, even ads and like/sub calls-to-action before anything practical... though admittedly well restrained here. moreso than that principled criticism is just my misdirected frustration with the actual task.
wasn't trying to hurt your feelings.
ok, little how-to guy, hope you feel better now - go run along and play in the yard or make some more videos or something)
Where exactly can we see your videos? Since you’ve got all the answers and critiques you must make or edit or have some media degree etc.?! Nah I didn’t think so 😂
@@sheilasunshine9173
who are you to question my right to misdirect my frustration with cleaning the interior of my windshield towards a well-meaning (and honestly, genuinely helpful...) content creator? Sheila??
Does this work for car windows that are tinted as well? I'm afraid to mess up the tint!
Sprayway is safe for tint. Don't use any other cleaners (or alcohol) on tint.
My husband bought an applicator with a swivel wand. He puts the towel on it and then cleans just like you do. Less awkward.
I’ve seen those, I’ll have to give it a try!
I have those and they are wonderful! My arms are not as long as his and the applicator gets all the way without contorting myself. Mine have small microfiber pads attached, but think putting another microfiber cloth over it is great idea!
Use the top(back) of your hand to reach the bottom area if the windshield. 👍 (Much easier)
Quick question, does the alcohol keep the windshield from fogging up on the inside?
The local AAA store sells a fog prevention product that is wiped on, it’s a yellow colored sponge-like thing.
Is alchohol reccomended to use on windshield if ceramic UV film is installed? It for sure cuts through car wash soap residue and oil on my exterior glass.
Thank you so much for posting this!
Great tutorial!💜
I have found through long experience, NOT to use spray on cleaners of any type. I use one clean rag using hot water to clean and one clean rag to wipe dry. It takes several applications to "train" your window(s), but lasts for months. Microfiber rags are nice, but leave a thin film of microfiber particles when viewed in certain lights. Probably better than cotton rags though unless you have repeatedly used the cotton rags hundreds of times and used them only for washing windows. When in a car wash or detail shop, do NOT let them clean the insides of the windows or you will have to start over again in training your windows.
When you say cotton rags , do you mean those smooth kitchen towel types ? Or something like washcloths ?
And how hot should the water be ? Do you make the rag just damp enough but not dripping ?
Warm is fine. It can even be cold in nice weather. If a warm day (never do it on a hot day as the water dries faster than you can wipe dry), don't completely wring it out so that gives you time to dry wipe adequately.
Beautiful results. I am going to switch from Bounty to micro fiber towels. Thank you, I like help when I can get it. 😎
Is it better to mix water with alcohol
Hi, how do you clean your microfiber towels? I find that mine get all gross with cat fur stuck all over them even after washing them
Good question! I have a video walking through how I do it here - th-cam.com/video/w92Qi-Lnz8M/w-d-xo.html
I think most of us really want to know if it’s tinted safe for windows, but I wouldn’t wish to see how you would do it with the foam too like, do you put it directly to the glass since there’s the sun or on the microfiber
Appreciate you bro!
Nice class video. The members are doing good.
Teacher Eunmi looks quite attractive, on the job working.~ 😉🥰👍♥️
Ouuuf ta.... that alcohol mist right after spraying... I suggest backing out for just a few seconds and allow it to fall on the towel, rather than your eyes or breathe it in. Besides that, I will try your suggestion, because I just did mine with the stuff at the gas station and they are not clean, very frustrating. Thank you!
Would this be safe for tinted windows, or house windows ?
Good question! To be on the safe side I probably wouldn’t use it. I would just use a drop or two of dish soap in a spray bottle with water.
You can jurry rig a 12in rod + a kitchen sponge ( somehow secure them together, now put the micro fiber towl onto it. 😅
Are those safe for tinted windshields?
Thank you my guy. Didn’t know 70% isopropyl alcohol works just as good. Clean and disinfected!! Well played sir
Thx!
For me, the best trick is cleaning all at once with news paper and a glass cleaning product, leaves them sparkly
Great thumbnail 👍
Thanks!
Works great and goes fast. I turned my car so it was facing the early morning sun. 60 degree temperature. It was easier to see all the film.
A teaspon of dawn detergent in a spray bottle filled with distilled water is always the best glass clean, will pull out more evaporated oils that cling to the windshield than isopropyl IMHO
Great, TY for your time!
Awesome tips!
Thank you!
great job!
Idk why but the bee really made me chuckle 😂
Where do buy good micro towels?
I’ve never heard of using alcohol like that to clean the windshield. I’ll have to give that a try.
Any tips for cleaning the top of a dashboard with sticky lint? I think I used Armor All once long ago and now it is tacky the lint never comes off.
Awesome! Thank you man! Just subbed
I'll be dipped it worked😊
Alcohol is fine but don't use it on any tinted windows. Try using distilled water or cpap water is even better because it has no minerals.
Good Job
Vinegar works well too
Thanks - i was looking for this 😊
Happy to help!
You have no idea how important this is. I almost been in terrible accidents because of those windshield smears and I almost hit someone. I clean them but they always end up dirty and it’s so infuriating .
Good video. No breathing mask necessary?
What did you use on the outside? The cleaner looked different from the alcohol.
Sprayway foaming glass cleaner.
What about Dawn dish washing liquid and water in a spray bottle?
What did you use on the outside of the windshield at the end?
That was the Sprayway glass cleaner. It foams up when you spray it, very satisfying to clean with!
