Some of the mods are amazing, I love the T-45, and there are assets I wish were part of the core game because they would make mission building so much easier. BUT: my biggest beef with unofficial mods is that they're never fully tested and checked what impact they have on the core game or other modules. Official modules are put in the testing branch, first internally then open beta and it's made 100% sure they don't cause any glitch with anything else. This can't be said about unofficial mods. They very often affect other modules, cause bugs, and those take the blame instead of the mod. I've seen soldiers disappearing from WW2 missions because of an unofficial jet having been installed. I've heard of people losing the gun sound in their P-51 due to some unofficial assets, and I've seen plenty of mission / campaign issues that were seemingly unexplainable, but as soon as xyz mod was uninstalled, the problems were gone. I really hate how much time I (and other campaign makers) spend 'troubleshooting' and 'community management' just because someone installed a bunch of untested code. Maybe ED should consider making 'half-official mods' - so the best community mods like the T-45 would be tested internally and also open beta, so they would get a 'safe to use' label. Dunno...

Interesting section on the South Atlantic map there; I'm guessing the runway markings you suggested are meant to be representative of an earlier point in time, perhaps 1982? The original markings look very close to what's visible on google maps. Thanks for the great video, looking forward to seeing what you put out in 2023!

Thanks, Juice. Incidentally, I found your slides on the runway markings interesting and useful - I’ve known all the markings mean something but I’ve never gone down that particular track. I don’t play multi because my eyesight has some serious problems and, apart from being a liability to any team, I need markers to have the most basic SA. Maybe I’ll get involved once I’ve had the surgery? Why would someone with vision issues get involved with flight simming - Simple, because I can, and obviously can’t do so IRL despite being one of those people who dreamt of flying as a child. That’s the magic of the virtual world!
Anyway, thanks for your help via the videos. Apart from DCS, I love the Prairie Fire DLC for Arma. Back when I was a young man (and could see a lot better!) my commanders in the Australian Army were mostly Vietnam veterans and our weapons and equipment were all Vietnam War vintage (this was 1983) so it’s amazing to go back to that stuff, even though we mostly used the SLR rather than M16. We did have them, though, as well as M60s and most of our training exercises involved insertions via Huey so it’s a real blast to revisit that stuff. My country was at peace during my time so luckily I didn’t have to try to kill anyone, so my spectacles are naturally gonna be rose tinted. :D.

While it's a bit frustrating as a customer to see all this cool stuff we want to see included as official modules, I think ED's methods do help keep the quality bar set very high. Despite warts, painfully slow development, DCSisms, etc., you can plop down cash on any module and know that there is a "guaranteed" level of quality. None of the disappointments that come with the MSFS marketplace exist in DCS.

I love the A4 and the T45C, but personally the one I like to fly the most is the OV-10A by SPLIT-AIR. The Bronco is just an awesome aircraft in it’s own right, and it gives us another prop acft to use. Vietnam to present day (in the form of the OV-10D+ & G+, firefighting variants notwithstanding), the slower cousin of the A-10.
Of the mods/ideas I know of being worked on, I’d love to see the still unreleased F-111 and an OV-10D either picked up by a big dev (*cough cough* Heatblur, F-111 *cough cough*) or a new real company formed for them.
