TREATMENT ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION PROGRAM (TAIP)
TAIP is a comprehensive screening, assessment, and referral (SAR) program initiated in 1992, and developed in collaboration with the Department of State Human Services (DSHS) to target the chemically dependent offender population who would benefit more from treatment services than from incarceration. The TAIP assessor administers the SAE assessment tool to utilize four of the seven ways to reduce recidivism. It is utilized to identify offenders who have the risk to re-offend and have criminogenic needs to receive services within the treatment resources of the Bexar County CSCD.
TAIP provides SAR services to over 7,000 offenders per year drawn from pre-adjudicated referrals (PSI), mandated post-adjudicated referrals, and mandated referrals from violations of prior probation. The program provides not only SAR services but makes referrals for intensive and supportive outpatient substance abuse treatment services to Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC) employed by the CSCD.

I had a difficult upbringing, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse.

I've noticed when these defendants are at risk of getting revoked due to not complying with court ordered conditions of probation or they catch another charge, suddenly they play the I have children to support or I'm primary care of elder parent(s), grandparent or a special needs child. Defendants never mention this extenuating circumstances at any hearing until there's a motion to revoke and the possibility/probability of prison is staring them in their face. They don't take probation seriously. It's a get out of jail free card to them. If I were on probation, I would be a nervous wreck until I had completed and satisfied all requirements to successfully complete probation. I sure wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my freedom. Committing more crimes, not reporting to my PO as scheduled or failing/refusing drug testing are incomprehensible to me. Why do that to yourself? That's a special kind of stupid, in my book.

Yep. There's a saying, "any guy can make a baby but it takes a MAN to be a FATHER" ... Any guy that would run around breaking the law, doing drugs, getting drunk, doing what he did (not that far into it yet) is not a man nor a father. Same, yes, for the girl too. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHES PREGNANT. I think if they're caught and get arrested, maybe they should have their kids taken for a little while when they're born, especially if there's drugs found in the baby's system.

The state and federal governments encourage and abet this behavior. Governments confiscate income from the low hanging fruit, skim 30% off the top, and dribble the remainder to the underbelly for rent, food, medical services and to breed more underbelly, all in order to solicit votes. Now they want you stoned, too. It makes you more likely to follow their orders.

Judge is right, somewhere along the way the grandma will be raising the baby. Someone has to put a stop to this cycle of nonsense. Judge needs to see grandma and ask her if she wants him to live there, does she know about his crimes, how does she feel about them shacking up, and how much he is giving a month for bills.

So glad she put the last defendant in prison for decade. It was clearly noted by the prosecutor that the defendant’s criminal behavior was escalating to more violent activities. He should be made to serve the full 10 years but he won’t, unfortunately.
