    DUALLY DIAGNOSED RESIDENTIAL FACILITY (DDRF)
The mission of the DDRF is to provide treatment for mentally ill probationers who have been ordered by the courts to participate in the program as a result of a motion to revoke, an original condition of placement on community supervision, or as an agreed placement between offender and the courts. Probationers placed in the DDRF program have an Axis I priority population diagnosis as established by the Center for Health Care Services (CHCS). Diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major mood disorder. During their time at DDRF probationers receive mental health services provided by CHCS Genesis residential unit; a cost shared by both CHCS and TCOOMI. Their treatment team, made up of residential supervision officers and mental health and substance abuse counselors, holds weekly meetings to discuss the probationer’s progress. The input from the probationer’s weekly counseling as well as input from the security staff is used to aid in the probationer’s progress through the program and ultimately completion from DDRF. Upon release from the facility, supervision of the probationer transitions to the Bexar County CSCD Mentally Impaired Caseload (MIC).

Her Mom will hold her accountable. It could be she just got with the wrong guy, and he got her caught up in his crimes. She's spent more time waiting for her program than she would have done in prison! Her case would carry a 2-5 for low offender, she's female and halfway house eligible. Could already be in the halfway house.
A lot of the defendants don't get that EACH violation ups your sentence on these 'suspended" sentences. 2-20 is what the crime carries, but a 1st offender never gets more than 2-5. But by their 3rd violation judge Boyd WILL give a smoothe 7 or maybe 10 year sentence, depending if there's new crimes.

Same here. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. We respected our elders and people in authority. You did as you were told and never talked back to your parents and teachers. And if I got in trouble in school, I walked home really slow, because I knew they the school had already called home, and mom was waiting for me with the wooden spoon, ready to beat my butt. As a teen, I never even considered doing something that could get me arrested. Because I knew that if I called home, and told my folks that I was in jail, I'd be sitting there at least overnight. Because we were a middle class family and my folks didn't have money for bail. I feared my parents, because they weren't afraid to discipline me. I grew up a RESPONSIBLE ADULT. I never got arrested, still refer to adults (even if they're younger than me) as Ma'am and Sir. As the Bible says, "Train a child up in the way they should go, and when they are grown, they will not depart from it." Guess I was trained right.

I do think this particular case should have been handled differently. Yes, we need to be accountable for our actions. However her documented long term mental health illness should have steered the case in a different direction. There's a difference between someone having a drug addiction and someone self medicating. A person who is self medicating cam becomes addiction. But often times it's not about addiction. It's about trying to function with your symptoms. It's horrible to be deferred to addiction services without the dual diagnosis piece being considered. I speak from experience. 12 steps were wonderful, I learned a lot. However staying chenical free was a whole different ball game. Once my mental health issues were properly medicated and treated, drugs were and are a non-issue.

      Yasssss!!!
I thank God often for my parents 🙏🏽 and the fact that they have been married for 62yrs, raised my sister and myself, and encouraged faith, education, and integrity.
We r an African American family with a strong bond.
The parentals went so far as to have a family mtg to tell us, after my sister's divorce that we r family and we stick together and help each other out... my sister had an infant and a toddler, and we were going to raise them together. She also became very ill shortly after the divorce. I was living/working in WDC and drove home/flew/took a train once/twice a month to ensure the girls understood the importance of family togetherness and provided as much fun as possible. (I am their only auntie, so I was all abt the fun-fun and shopping til we dropped). I came home on holidays, birthdays, and school breaks, and while they were little girls, I came home during the summer for 2 weeks, just to give my sister and the parentals a break. Not to mention the family trips WE STILL TAKE TOGETHER!
I have no family of my own.
I knew every secret. Some I told, esp if I didn't have the words to help them. Most secrets stayed with me and long forgotten.
They r grown women in their 30s. They've established a private practice 3000 miles apart after Covid so they could continue staying at home with their pets!!! No kids. Just pets! One is living on the East Coast, the other on the West Coast.
All of us have Masters degrees (parentals included), and the youngest is working on her doctorate.
We all talk/text each other every day!
God has blessed us all in ways u can only imagine.
With all that's happening in the world, I'm glad we've all remained grounded and tight-knit.
It's encouraging to know all is not lost.
Our children do have a chance!

It's sad to see how her face lights up when she first sees her mom, but she soon looks very sad. Her mother is not making excuses for her, but she also does not sound loving. If her daughter has seen the same psychiatrist since she was a child, that psychiatrist has not made a difference and may even be an enabler. It's good that she will see a new one.

But she could have said something like she is glad that her daughter wants to come live with her and do better. Of course, her daughter may have put her through so much that she can't find loving words. Still, to make it work her daughter needs to know that her mother is there to be more than a disciplinarian. Maybe she'll let her know that when she gets home.
