What a brilliant idea about freezing the broth in the small casserole and then putting it in a Ziploc. Thanks. I have beef bones roasting in the oven at this very minute. I'll make mine in a crockpot.

You are so right about the chicken feet - it's amazing the difference it makes!
Since the Instant pot got mass marketed, a lot of people started giving their crock pots to the 2nd hand stores. I have several crock pots now, that I keep in storage.
When I get a load of bones and feet from my local producer, I set them all up outside, and let 'em go. Then I fill up my canning jars, (because they're uniformly sized, they store easier in the freezer). I date the lids; Ck/Pk Br. O. 6/15/18 for example). My neighbours can their broth, and I think I should try that - have you done it, Mr. Highfalutin? Might save me the cost of running the freezer. Thing is, 'they' say bone broth is good to take every day for primo gut-health.
    Love your vids.

Wow! What a great idea! I have not tried canning the broth. Like you, I just store it in the freezer. :-)

Natural release is shortened if you place a cold, wet towel, on the metal area on top of the lid. For stovetop pressure cookers you rinse the pot top under a stream of cool water and the pressure reduces to normal automatically without ever venting the pot.

I have a love/love relationship with my Instant Pot. :) But I've had an Instant Pot since before anyone ever heard of Instant Pot.
There is a definite learning curve but...
You can make ribs, buffalo chicken wings, pulled pork,...all in a fraction of the normal time. (hint: stick them under the broiler for a few minutes if you want that authentic low & slow look/feel/taste)
Cook a whole chicken for dinner from frozen.
Use a steamer basket and layer in some shredded cabbage, ground beef (raw), seasoning each layer with salt, pepper, and onion powder, and bam! delicious bierock filling.
Plus moist meat loaf, keto cheese cake, boiled eggs, poached eggs, egg bites.
Did you know if you want to make egg salad, you can crack all of your eggs into a pan that fits inside the IP, then cook them in that pan in the IP. Then all you have to do for your egg salad is chop up the "boiled" egg loaf. It's a no peeling required egg salad!
FYI, they work great as slow cookers too. Slow cook a pot of bean-free chili in there sometime.
Of course if you're not keto, they are superb for rice, beans, potatoes (regular and sweet), veggies, and yes even pasta (Lord, do I miss my ham and beans).
But mine are still a couple of workhorses even without all of the evil delicious carbs. ;)

I save bones when cooking meats throughout the year and freeze it, then use it to make bone broth.
Also after thanksgiving all the bones from the turkey cover with water, i cook 4 hours in the instant pot.
strain it when it's done and starting to cool off. Then while still a little warm i put it i jars. Needs to be heated to drink because it turns into gelatin when cooled.
I love making a lot of it and put in good jars to freeze as well so that i have it when i'm not feeling well.

I sauté and add mushrooms and onions in butter in the instant pot to my beef bones and use beef or mushroom ‘better than bullion’ to the water for added flavor. I also add just a little organic apple cider to help release the nutrients from the bone. I cook mine in the instant pot for 3 hours. Yumm

Great video as always. It's funny you mentioned ice cube trays...that's what I freeze broth and many other things in. One of the other things I like doing this way is pesto. My other half has a green thumb, therefore lots of basil in our garden. The cubes will thaw more quickly and if you only need small amount it's perfect. I don't add any pine nuts when I freeze my pesto, so it can be added to many recipes that call for basil, olive oil, garlic and parmesan. I even used to make my kiddo mashed veggies from the garden and freeze this way instead buying of jarred baby food.

    Hope you feel better soon.
One of the first things I had to make in culinary school - stock. We had a mix of beef and veal joints and bones to work with, so it was time to jump right in.
Of course, having done the work and making stock multiple times - it's a pet peeve of mine whenever I hear them call it "bone broth". There is a difference between stock and broth in my view, and while related and while sometimes you can use one for the other, there are some circumstances where that simply isn't the case. I'm just not going to be able to make some of the mother sauces, or variants thereof, with broth that has pulled most of its stuff from meat. And if I wanted to make consommé? You won't find that richness in "broth".
So it just seems to me like a trendy term more than anything else.
Also, I can't help but want to make the mirepoix and if you want to really get some additional flavor, brown the mirepoix (and blacken that onion) and deglaze your pan (perhaps with a little ACV instead of wine) and get it all in there. It will also improve the color. It's not a huge jump in the carbs since you are straining it - and from what I've researched out, you are looking at about 1g of net carbs per cup of stock when using mirepoix.
Of course, if you want that brown stock color and flavor - that usually involves tomato paste as part of the browning, and that makes things far more tricky. If you can limit the amount to about 3 Tbs on your bones, then over 10 cups, not so bad. You would be looking at a net carb count of 6.9 for the entire batch, so you'd still be at less than 2 net carbs (about 1.7) per cup between the mirepoix and the tomato paste.
As you pointed out, control your ingredients.

In germany a very popular way to use the marrow is to fry it out of the bone, then add some breadcrumbs and spices (alot of nutmeg). Then that's formed into small balls and added into noodle soup.
Was one of my fav dishes as a kid.
Oh, and they are called "Markklößchen".

Awesome, thanks for a bone broth recipe I can actually see myself doing! And, thanks for info on the pressure cooker pot (I didn't know, either, and came sure live without it)! Feel better. 💕

Watched this and just made 34 cups worth of broth. Plan to freeze some and give some away. I just read I should have added some ACV...Noting that for next time. Thank you so much for this video!

Ditto on the instant pot! I got it when I was doing HCLF, but now Keto. I use it now for hard boiled eggs, fantastic. and Bone Broth, great. I do like the crock pot better, but I do it for 24 hours. I used bones at least twice.

Could you increase your audio on your vids. Many people listen to vids on their phone. In comparison to other vids I have to turn yours all the way up to hear it and I don't have a hearing prob. Check for yourself and see. It may help to invest in a mic. Love you, love your vids and all u do for us. Thanks

You can get cubed frozen pig feet in most stores too, super collagen-ey and delicious there’s some marrow, fat, skin, it’s good.

Praying for a full recovery for your trip!
If you don't already, try putting the broth in your blender before drinking. The consistency is amazingly creamy.
    Thanks again!

OOH! What a wonderful tip! (I've been known to stir in a teaspoon of heavy whipping cream into a mug of it as well. The blender sounds like the perfect trick!)

I need ot make some. It makes a great base for soups and stew. I actually learned to do it many many years ago, though I always heard it called beef stock instead of beef bone broth. Broth is made from the meat (and skin) primarily, and stock is made from bones, marrow and connective tissue.

I’ve since learned other brands of electric pressure cookers can do canning, so surely Instant Pot will come along with something! Thanks for watching and commenting, Karen! 👍👍

I hope so! I'll probably pick up another one, if they do. Chicken broth is the only thing that I feel like I've ever successfully canned and now that I'm keto, I would LOVE to can some of my own bone broth! I know freezing is an option, but I live in the same area that you do, and I live in fear that a hurricane will knock out power for an extended time, and I'll lose my freeze full of meat. LOL

Just found your channel. Great stuff! I don't have an Instant Pot - I went straight for the Ninja Foodi. Tiny kitchen, so I was able to get rid of space hoggers. It will be perfect for this recipe as it has a *true* slow cook function (not crockpot). If you get the right model, you can also hydrate ( beef jerky). Will definitely try this recipe. Thank you.

I made this just as suggested and it worked well. I don't know about the taste, though, because I was unable to buy grass-fed bones. So I imagine it would have been even better. Anyway, I felt a lot better after having this broth and my dog definitely enjoyed the spent meat and bones! ;-) I'm one of the people without an instant pot so I used a Crock Pot for 24 hours and it worked just fine. Thanks for another fun video!

I know this is an older video but I wanted to comment on it because you mentioned you had a summer cold. I'm not a doctor or any sort of medical professional but I wanted to mention that when I get a cold which I try to avoid at all costs I go to the drug store and buy a combo pack of daytime/night time buckley's capsules. I can't do liquid medicine it makes me gag so these are perfect. The daytime ones are non-drowsey and the nighttime ones help you sleep. If you try those you'll swear by them forever and ever amen! LOL I haven't bought any other cold/cough medicines since I discovered how well these work.
