This explains why the Minecraft Stage in Super Smash Bros Ultimate has none of the classic songs from the regular game. It seems that these songs are in a "contractual limbo" between Microsoft and C418 and Nintendo couldn't get any license of them for Smash, so they simply added the songs from Minecraft Dungeons instead.

If I buy a product, I expect to own said product. Same goes for Microsoft wanting to own the track. If the argument swung the other way, aka. consumers not actually owning a phone for example, everyone would loose thier shit (as has happened before). So honestly, while its sad that no more C418 music is coming, I can understand the decision on Microsofts part. Also I think the new tracks are 100% on par with his tracks from a quality standpoint, but just aren't as nostalgic.
Also: C418 has made some other awesome tracks for other ips (stranger things for example), so im glad to see him move on and evolve creatively.

In my Opinion, no artist wont be as good, as C418. The nostalgic coming from his music is legendary. And if Microsoft wants to strip his music away in new updates, then I'll be pissed off.
