    The oil pump chain will have slack, just like on a chain saw or drive chain. It tightens up during load. If the chain is too tight, it will stretch I believe. Great video series. Very helpful for when I go to replace my clutch pack. I should probably change out the oil pump drive chain like you did since you have it apart.

      That makes sense. I'm not sure if I needed to change it, but with that many miles on it, I figured it was at least for peace of mind.

    The basket drilling is done on the Kawawsaki vn700-750 for helping with the bike lurching in first gear if you engage clutch a few times it stops they call it the coffee maker sound lol I went through it but never drilled my basket.

      Interesting...never heard of that, but I've never owned a Kawasaki either.

    Have you had a problem with a grunt when taking off from a dead stop with a cold bike sounds like it's coming from the cluch

      Before the change, I was getting something like that and the 1st to 2nd would slip when the bike was cold or if I got on it hard from a stop. After the change, it's been fine.

    My opinion is that that the lash you refer to is normal.

    • @hoopin4you
      @hoopin4you  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure it's normal...been riding fine since putting it back together.

    Just curious... if you just needed to replace the clutch, what was the reason you stripped the entire primary drive? Changing the oil pump drive chain would be a reason but you didn’t plan on that originally. It was very informative to observe everything you did however.

      When I felt the slack in the chain, I had no idea if it was normal and couldn't find an answer online on the forums or elsewhere. So I figured I'd go ahead and replace it for good measure while I had it open already.

    So you don't have to pre soak the disc before putting them in?

    • @hoopin4you
      @hoopin4you  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you still need to do that...I let them soak overnight.

      @@BigKahuna_outdoors If you look at the Zip-loc bags, you'll see the oil there on the outside where the plates were sitting once I took them out of the bags.

    How important is to have that last friction plate offset like that?

    • @hoopin4you
      @hoopin4you  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure...just went by what the service manual calls for.

      Honestly, I've read where others have done them the way you did yours...I wouldn't worry about it too much.

    So never reuse the same clutch bolts correct?

    • @hoopin4you
      @hoopin4you  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct. Goheen Cycles sells the upgraded stronger clutch bolts for the VTX.

      Only thing I’m afraid of is with this new bolts I buy I’m afraid of braking the bolts again.even with 9ft lbs

      @hoopin4you  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TignoRice Use an inch/lb. torque wrench, and do them a little at a time in a star pattern. 9 ft.lb. = 108 in.lb.

    My pipe is melting that top off engine and I don’t no if I should rap it or not

      If you're running aftermarket pipes and intake, your jetting could be off and causing the excessive heat.

    This video is good for one thing, you can get to know the inside of the VTX 1300. The mechanic, on the other hand, is completely amateur, doing things that can even do damage. His clumsy, clumsy movements are annoying. I would never trust him to mount my engine.

      Bike is back together and running fine. Good luck with your own maintenance.
