  • Pitching a Brush Hog into the wooded areas in current has won lots of tournaments. But where you pitch and how you work the bait makes all the difference between hooking huge bass and getting nothing but snags. In this video, I teach a friend step by step how to fish the Brush Hog. Then I’ll show closeups of how I pitch and detail which areas I chose to fish and why.
    Tackle makes the critical difference when using Brush Hogs. In a subsequent video, I’ll go through step by step on how to rig the Brush Hog setup and explain the importance of each piece of tackle. Once you get the feel of pitching a Brush Hog, you’ll soon be hauling in the big fish!
    This is the first in a two part series of Brush Hogs:
    1. HOW TO PITCH & FLIP BRUSH HOG to Catch Big Bass - Step by Step Teaching | Episode 1: • PITCH & FLIP BRUSH HOG...

    I'll be up there next month. What color brush hog did you use? I have a bunch of them and just want to make sure to bring the right color.

      It depends on the clarity of the water but in a month Watermelon Red. Now I'm using Junebug because the water is still stained

    Thanks for the information Allen. I haven't used my brush hogs in about 15-20 years. I still have them, I think it time to get them out and use them soon on the Delta! I appreciate all your help over the years in the shop.

    Watching people standing on the edge of a bass boat like that always reminds me of fishing in Florida. I was in Orlando for training and two of us went out with a guide on Lake Toho. He showed us how to pitch into the reeds, and we caught some bass and watched a gator stalk a duck. All while standing about one foot off the water on the edge of the boat. On the way back to the barracks we stopped at the Gator Jumperoo and watched alligators coming about 4 feet straight up out of the water to grab a chicken. The other guy reminded me that we were just standing one foot off the water and there were gators there. BTW, fried gator is pretty good.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No gators around these parts! I was in Key West and had fried gator and it was pretty good eating.

    Alan, great stuff. Hey did you ever work at the Cupertino area store on Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd. Early 1999-2000 or sooner my father retired and worked there. In those days we had a Grady and were chasing Salmon and Halibut. But I think I may have run onto you there. I did get to chat with you in the Sacramento Store and get some white tubes for Kings.

      I used to go there and do seminars a lot and helped set the store up. You tube just another way I can help people be better at fishing! Glad your enjoying the channel

    Hey Alan, where is the best place to launch the boat if you're going to Prospect slough or Liberty Island?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I launch at Hog Back Marina in Steamboat slough. You can launch at Arrowhead but hard to get in on low tide.

    I was surprised how long you stayed at that one spot. Lesson learned. I normally make 1 or 2 pitches then move on.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This time year and in current I stay put and let it settle down and go back a few times in the day. I've flipped over twenty five pound limits many of times!

    @lydiapawlak8564 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Alan, being in spawn almost right now, you mentioned brush hog flippin best in Fall & Winter. Since we are coming into April, would you still flip the brush hog now?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I'm into area where I know the bass are ready to spawn I would go to the seiko weightless! But not all bass spawn the same time so if I'm in current then my choice would be brush hog!

    Alan, pitch a jig or a trig brush hog at the delta?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now I would go with the brushhog. Dead winter I use jigs.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I never fished with him, but knew him. I can remember seeing him flipping with long fiberglass blank with dicron line down the middle to mono and a jig dipping in the tulips. It used to wear my shoulder out in a day pulling all them bass out!

    With all the new baits out there and more showing up every few months, old school baits like the brush hog are often over looked. Great info as always Alan!. Maybe you should rubber coat Denise's weights!. You dont need anymore broken electronics! Lol. Thanks again for your in depth information.
