Hey Alan, just watching this series of vidios again, getting ready to try it this year. cought a few recently trolling but looking forward to your dead stick method. Thanks for sharing your knowlage.
Ok ... To fish the salmon at old Sacramento, do I just mooch like you show in video, "How to suspend fish?"
Or... Can I troll with 3 way swivel? If I do, what do I use for bait/lure? I don't have a troller to stay in one spot.
That video is for land lock salmon in lakes. If you want to fish for salmon in the Sac river now I would fish right below the mouth of the American River. Anchor your boat in 18-20 ft water and use a 3X5 spreader. On the short side put a 20" drop leader to a 3oz torpedo sinker. Long side a 4 ft 30# mono leader to a kwikfish K15 silver chartruse head. Put a sardine wrap on the bottom of lure and set it out behind boat and make sure the weight is on the bottom. When you get bit the rod will bend in half set the hook!
Very helpfull video. Can i purchase the gitzit at your shop, if so what is the part number also the jighead number. Thanks again
Hi Alan, does your jigging method work in the summer? What are the best months? Thank you.
Fall is the best time when the shad ball up in big schools. This is the best time of the years to jig n mooch
Do you ever dead stick tube style baits for Kokanee or would you say jigging traditional buzz bombs etc is better?
No I haven't and I catch lots kokanee late in the season jigging small spoons
When I fish for salmon and I'm using kwikfish or flatfish type lures, am I to replace the trouble hooks? If I do what type of Gamakatsu hook should I use, st#. _____, size, description? Please!
I was just out in Markley Cove Sunday. I think we are getting another late turnover again this year. I have been watching the county temperature website trying to track the turnover. I’m fishing from a kayak so I have limited range once I’m on the water. I need to launch from a ramp so the islands are on the far edge of my range. Can you give some more detail on locating them. Is it Markley Cove before the turnover and Putah Creek after the turnover? Thanks for all the great info.
Yes Markley cove is a good start and you can start right past the house boats. Putha Creek is probably the best choice as the shad move up into the major creeks in the winter.
@@AlanFong OK, thanks. I'm hoping to try this weekend. Is there a best way to figure when to switch to Putah creek? It's already winter and I've never tracked the shad migration before. Thanks again.
Great You Got the Bait Let's Go.
Kidding Alan.
Salmon fishing for July 18, is the American river spot between hwy 80 and hwy 580 in the bay?
What size tube and jig head do you like to use?
I use the Canyon 3 3/4" white tube with a 1/4oz darthead with 2/0 hook this is for the landlock kings. If fishing deeper than 30' I'll go to a 3/16 to 3/8th oz jighead
Thank you sir I'm going to give it a try under a slip float from shore around the dam area I even did the anchovie fillets as you mentioned aswell thanks
Thank you so much for all the information .I told my son who has been really struggling to get bit watched them and just caught a couple of fish following your curing and tube techniques you showed in your video’s . Really nice fish him his son and my daughter-in-law had great day . Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Fishermen’s warehouse will be are go to shop from now on .
You are so welcome! I will be doing these videos on lots different species of fish through out the year as I fish for everything. Glad you are on board
Sweet
Good day, Alan.
Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and hope you will help me with my question. I have the affordable tackle and curious what else I could use it for and how.
Thank you, Sir.
Steve Mitchell
Love the series format of multiple vids for its quantity and quality of shared personal techniques…tried and proven tips I know will help me become a better angler. I’m looking forward to mooching for landlocked salmon using your real deal method the next time I’m on Berryessa. Big thanks! Now all I have to do is find some Gitzits.
Those are Nice Size One.
I do like the taste of those Fish.
One of my Favorite.
We had an eagle take a few of them one time.
Do they make a left handed retrieve line counter reel that would hold 10 colors of lead core line
Got to give Allen's hook set 12/10.
My son want to go try gitzit at our local lake now. tnx!
Are you going to give us a update to when the lake turns over
Yes I will post on Instagram. This is a weird year and I think when it does turn it will be short time. Last year it turned in Dec and the fishing was good thru Feb!
What size and color gitzit do you use? And does that method work during the summer months?
I like the white 4" gitiz and yes as long as the salmon are schooled up its deadly
Bro you look like you were fishing for sturgeon whe way you were reeling and setting the hook. We're you overly excited or would you recommend this method? Be honest lol
The hard hook sets are to drive the hook thru the fish mouth. Depending on what I'm fishing for I use different kind of rods. Mooching you need to use a soft rod so a hard hook set is a must.
I saw you were out with Steve. You better stay outta my spots Alan! Glad to see you are still catching them. I’ll be up to the warehouse to see you soon!
Hey Alan, Great info and presentation. Mainly a bass guy, but you got me thinking. What kind of rod holder is that?
Smashed the like and the red box. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
Oh and the Reel is a Daiwa Lexa 100LC and yes they do make it in a left and it's an 6.3 : 1 gear ratio.. in a small form factor the Lexa is the best! Abu Garcia does make one in a 5500 but the line counter is digital and is round and holds a ton of line!.. =)
I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO INCORPERATE A LINECONTER IN THIS TECHNIQUE....THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING OF USING TO GET IN THE STRIKE ZONE
Yeeeeee Hawwww,,, =) Hey Al lemme Mooch a $100 off yah! hahaha Oh yeh just a friendly reminder Please Do Not use the Click feature on your reel to let your line down really fast or keep it engaged while fighting fish because your break the click feature every time! You're Welcome from your Friendly Krippler Kustoms Reel Tech! Fitch On!!
I always liked the tubes but wasn't to big on bass thank you
Back in the eighties when tube baits first came out I used them for bass. My brother was fishing salt water a lot and tried them for rock fish. He killed the rock fish on them plus caught many salmon too. So we started mooching the gitizs for salmon in the ocean and slayed em! Then we started using them for salmon in the American and Feather river doing really good on them. Then used the glow in the dark in the American river for salmon at night and killed them. So I've been using them for many years catching many different species of fish on gitizs!
