STRIPED BASS with CHATTERBAIT & BLADED JIGS (Easy Limits in Weeds)

  • We’re locating stripers in shallow flats with lots of current over large weed flats. For many years, I’ve been targeting weed flats while other boats have blown past or stopped and got skunked. I’ve been catching lots of stripers starting in the fall through the spring and found an easy way to limit out quickly. One of the main food source for stripers are crawdads that live and feed in these weedy areas. When I first discovered these stripers feeding voraciously in shallow waters, it rang a bell in my head as I was fishing for largemouth bass at the time.
    However, it was an issue trying to find a lure that would go through the weeds without getting covered in weeds. If you’re pulling up your lure with weeds, you’re just not going to catch fish. Tried rattle traps, ripping them through the grass and it worked to catch striped bass. But out of ten casts, only five times would the rattletrap come back weed free. I’ve always said if you can come up clean every time you will catch more fish!
    Then I discovered that when working chatterbaits in the correct manner, I could get my lure to come back clean almost ten out of ten times! If you watch my bass chatterbait videos that I posted earlier, you will see which action rod, reel and line that I prefer…it’s a combination I found that works great. Enjoy this video and you will catch loads of stripers in the weeds!

    Thanks for the juice Allen. I appreciate all the knowledge you share from your years of experience and time on the water. I really enjoy all the content you put on the channel. You and Steve Cooper are the best weekly reports. I make adjustments to my setups and also try new things to gain more confidence based your suggestions. What really stood out for me in the video, is how weedless chatterbaits are. I usually throw lipless crank baits as my go to reaction bait. I’ve learned to deal with the weeds it does draw strikes powering through them. I’ll be throwing the chatterbait more often. Thanks again!

      Tips: learn were the bass food chain lives and study: like crawdads n learn where they live! If your casting 10 times and bring back weeds 6 times you cut your odds way down from catching fish. If I can get my bait in strike zone 10 time and bring it back 9 times clean I am gong to catch more fish!!!!!!!

    Great info Alan you mention the water temperature at 57° The crawdads moving out into the grass, right now I think the water temperature above 72° and probably warmer in the shallows, can you explain that further? What’s the best temperature to fish the shower water with a crawdad pattern?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crawdads start getting active when water temp gets into the upper fifties and as it warms they are still in shallow weeds feeding. Stripers will go into a foot of water to eat crawdads. But when the water got over 75* last week the stripers left

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the weather cooling down again I think the stripers will stick around a little longer. Normally it slows way down and the fish move back into the bay and ocean. Then in the fall they start returning again

    Hi Alan, what trailer and chatter baits are those. Also what general areas are you fishing? It it the west, central or east delta. When I look on the map, what should I be looking for? Do you ever try the z man weedless chatter and does that help on less grass?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use Z man jackhammer chatterbaits with a yamamoto zako trailor. I'm fishing from Rio Vista to Liberty and look for big flat shallow areas as I'm in 2-6 ft water catching lots stripers in the big weed flats on red chatterbaits

      I’ve never been to liberty island. Looking at the maps, it’s a big flooded island. Do I need to worry about underwater obstructions when running? I’m familiar fishing at franks, big break and Sherman, but have never fished liberty. Will give it a try in 2 weeks. But want to be extra cautious when on plane in a new area. Should I stay to one side or the other when running?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is lots of things to hit out there especially when going up north. Tractor parts, road, rock piles, water valves, pipes n metal rods. Be careful out there.
