I think microsoft bricked my xbox console with a new update, they want to sell more, so they manipulate the consoles with them. Thanks it worked for me!

I ran into similar issue and did the same but failed. I replaced the hdd with a 1tb ssd and did an offline update/restore
Some people where having the same issue including myself with the Series X after the last update. It wasn't the black screen, but it was that the console would freeze, kick you out of a game or it wasn't reconnecting properly with an external HDD. So I did the reset all but keep the app and games, and Voila it was fixed. Doing a hard reboot by holding the power button wouldn't fix the problem. Microsoft suggested we did it through the settings menu.

I knew how to do the factory reset, as I did so to set my Xbox to US to get access to Phantasy Star Online 2. However I was unaware of the black screen of death.
I've not played my Xbox much since around 2 years after launch where I mainly swapped to the PS4, but this is good to know in the event I do get black screened.
Thank you so much sir, it still worked for me. Even though i did not have the guts to delete everything i used the other option, worked fine.
I actually had this issue back in 2016 but no troubleshooting fixed it for me so I sent it back to Microsoft for $120 and they gave me one back with a broken disc drive so I sent it back a second time (for free) and then it worked fine again. I later gave that Xbox to a friend since I upgraded to an Xbox One X and that 3rd replacement model still works fine to this day. My guess is that the HDD went bad but at the time replacing the HDD in an Xbox One was still a headache so I never cared to try it.

I don't want to reset to factory settings though. I have a minecraft world on it I've been building in since 2013. Wtf do I do???
Your game saves are saved to your profile and then to the cloud. If you've had the console connected to the internet any time since playing, your saves are safe there.
Reset the console, download your profile.
Start the game, it will ask to sync with your most recent save. Say yes, and boom, you're on your way.

I never understand why so many people leave that HDMI sticker on the front of the Xbox one, am I right? Lol
I think people have an aversion to taking the stickers off of the items they buy. Like the chip set stickers on laptops, or The brand stickers on baseball hats
I keep them on so it’s easier to resell later for anyone wanting a “complete” unit.
I thought it was part of the Xbox. I have a question can you set it to update manually? I think the update is what made the black screen am I right? How much longer will this work Xbox One? Is it still snowing out there on Grand Theft Auto V?

Lol, I thought this was going to be the issue I had on my X1X but it was COMPLETELY Black Screen whenever I'd use it (Boot Up from Rest and a Full Shutdown... Safe Mode Screen) luckily I only got it at the start of the Year so I took it back for a Free Exchange at EB Games, they only had White X1X Systems so I was kinda annoyed before I saw an X1X behind the Glass Case behind the counter which I was able to swap for... Turned out to be a Project Scorpio Edition, glad the one I had Black Screened now 🤣 👍
Thank you, with all my heart thank you. For so long my Xbox was broken with the black screen of death and no other channel or website was giving me what I needed to fix it. I was rummaging around to see if I could find a way to solve the problem and I found this video, it worked, I had been the only helpful piece of knowledge for fixing my issue. Once again, thank you.
Tried the whole pressing eject and sync buttons at the same time while turning Xbox on multiple times and not once has anything popped on the screen. Still shows either a blank green screen or a blank black screen. It’s been 2 days and I’m about to lose my god damn mind.
Update: replaced my hdmi cable with a different one and it’s work fine now.
I can't get past the black screen. I put it in safe mode, but still nothing showed up. So is it just bricked? Cause nothing I did worked

VCR Xbox One is the best for Kinect. Not that Kinect was anywhere as robust as the 360. However, it does have the proprietary connection that got scrubbed off of the One S and One X.

I have the exact same problem.
Mine stays on the loading screen a long time then turns to black. I've only had it for 3 years? Is there a way to replace it that doesn't cost over a $100. I don't care what Microsoft fan boys say, the Xbox 360 worked way better. At least the PlayStation's still read discs.
Worked for me 2/1/22. I reset with my apps and games and it worked just fine. Seen a lot of different videos and this one worked for me.
"after the update's over.." I think some of these are directly related to updates. I've had my Xbox One X since Christmas 2017 and never had a problem until two days ago. I was playing Gears of War 2 and the screen began flickering and then I got no signal/black screen. I did factory reset, it seemed to be ok for a while and would again flicker, no signal. Unplugging the hdmi cable and plugging it back in would sometimes give ma picture again. The hdmi cable is fine as I use it on my ps4 without issue.
Edit: As of right now, it's working ok and has been for near 30 minutes. It's very strange.

While I applaud the video and how simple and easy it was to execute and understand, it stills doesn’t work for me. The issue I’m having is that every time I turn on my Xbox, it’s just a black screen. Nothing shows up for about 10 minutes, not even the Xbox green loadscreen thing. Even after all that, the Xbox does eventually turn on, it’s just that it’s very delayed, laggy and everything keeps crashing. Previously I hadn’t considered factory resetting it but I can’t even do that. I hold my sync and eject disk buttons and it does nothing. If anyone knows a solution, I’m all ears.

hey adam, i've been looking for a solution to a similar but not the same problem for a while now.... when i turn on my console (Xbox One X) it starts installing the last ~15% of a system update and after that i also find a black screen. unfortunately i have the feeling that my black screen of death is a bit blacker, because when i hold down the xbox button on the controller the regular "shutdown overlay" comes up but i can't select any of the top three buttons, they are greyed out... I've tried a lot of instructions but no matter what key combination I press, my console does not even sounds and it opens no other window. I've also tried it with a usb drive and an offline system update but there too unfortunately nothing happens... before I declare it broken I thought maybe someone like you can help me . thanks if anyone reads this. greetings from germany

My Xbox1 refuses to go into troubbleshoot menue. It stays on it's black screen 😭
Also I get shut down noises while holding in the sidebutton and the discbutton. Of all the times I tried, only once I got the 2 startup sounds, but imedietly after those 2 startupsounds I got a shut down noise, faster than I had time to remove my fingers. 😭
My Xbox is seemngly dead.

@@AdamKoralik Hapilly my Xbox1 died right when the new Xbox Series had been launched. I didn't waste any monnies on an one again, though a Series is expensive factory new. I bought Series X and waits for it to be delivered. Series S is cheaper and have stats fitting me better, I bought and X to make sure I can play those games I want through the entire generation.
Last thing about my 1. I also checked the discdrive if there where any discs stuck in there. Empty.
Man its been a while since I have seen an original Xbox One be booted up. I remember getting this model in 2014 i believe, I really wanted a PS4 but I had a bunch of friends on Xbox Live that were Xbox loyal (they were still holding on to the 360 glory days) and I ultimately decided to pickup the XB1 with them. Looking back I don't really regret it, we had some fun and I was happy to be getting a new console!
I swear Microsoft is fucking with us in some type of way because I’ve never had any issues with all my Xbox ones until they dropped the Series..

That day will be soon 😀 (whether it’s still working or not is another matter though but this tutorial at least gives me some tips if I see this problem) 👍
I know it may be different for some people, but it just happened to me my first time last night and I just unplugged it all night and in the morning I plugged it back in and it worked, back to normal
My problem with my Xbox One X was random game crashes. I solved it by disabling instant start.
However with the Series X, it's been going well until I just got Tales of Arise. It's starting to have random chashes.
I hope I don't have to disable Quick Resume because it's my favorite Xbox feature. Quick Resume and the Controller having removable batteries are the sole reason I'm using the Series X platform.
I love the feel of the PS5 controller, but the terrible battery life in their controller and bad UI pushed me away.
Ditto. Quick Resume is amazing. If controller dies, 10 seconds later I have a full battery. Never used a controller with wires on XSX.

Thanks for the very informative video. Worth mentioning when it comes to the Xbox One, there's no "series" in the naming scheme. It's just "Xbox One X". The "Series" nomenclature is only for the new generation of Xbox consoles.

I did mention it, I said it works on other models but is most common on the VCR edition.
This has worked for everybody except me, ive tried it multiple times but nothing seems to work

The solution is buy a PlayStation or stick to the Xbox 360. The games were better on the 360 anyway!

It's so annoying !!! Everything was going fine, when the black screen was on my controller was fine but then when it comes to fixing the problem, when the safe mode, it won't move...
Nevermind, I was rageclicking on the controler and it worked again
So, what about when it gets stuck at the "Preparing Console" and only makes it to 58% and then shuts off evey time?

My original xbox vcr fried after about 2 years of use because my external hard drive had corrupted.. pretty annoying stuff. Now I got the Series X and that fried after about a month and a half (got it on launch day). I have terrible luck with hardware. Lol, thanks for the video though, may come in handy one day.

You might not see this but it isnt letting me get into the troubleshoot menu and when i turn it on if i try turn ot off it keeps the light and is still on but it makes the sound i just dont know what to do

So I have a different I have the same screen but it won’t show anything I have a 4k tv I think that’s the issue
I had the exact same problem man, my xbox showed absolutely nothing, not even the screen when holding out the controller button. I got a 4K tv as well, trust me the tv is not the issue. I did the reset steps blindly and it worked! So give it a try! My image came back for the controller set up screen, before that it was a while black still.
My 2011 xbox 360 stopped working yesterday, i'm kinda sad but hope it can be fixed soon.

It boots up but there's no image only blue, so if you know how to fix i'd be very thankful.
A lot of slims have been dying lately since last year. Any slim from 2011 and up and E models are dropping like flies. The Xbox 360 sub reddit always has one post of an slim or E model 360 dying.
