George put together the P-Funk All Stars back in the '90s. I got to see them twice. Second time was in an amphitheater in Virginia Beach, VA. There had been a hurricane in Florida and George wasn't able to get a flight up for the show. The band came out at show time and vamped for about 1/2 an hour, basically just jamming. The announcer came on the PA and said that since George wouldn't be able to make the show anyone who wanted to get a refund could go down to the box office. Anyone who left missed a major treat. The show started with the Mothership coming down. The smoke stops and who is standing on the ramp but Mr. Bootsy Collins himself! Bootsy proceeds to walk out to the front of the stage and step off onto the barricade and WALK AROUND THE FIRST TEN ROWS ON THE BACKS OF THE SEATS, IN HIS PLATFORM BOOTS!!! Bootsy then proceeds to do George's part for the entire show...and it was FREAKING INCREDIBLE! I was in the second row, right in the center. One of the most amazing show's I've ever seen. The band kept laughing at me, a chubby white guy, and my wife, a chubby Asian lady, singing EVERY lyric! Even got a thumbs up from Bootsy himself! Long live George and Bootsy and THE FUNK!!!
Hahaha fantastic story, well told. Thanks so much for that, special stuff. Wicked man! Really hard to capture the spirit of that time, but you nailed it! Hope you and yours are well. Thanks again.
These cats is laying the Funk for real! This is what Funk is...all the NAAM show slap technical tricks? That ain't funk!!! Funk is a mean groove that makes people want to move. This is it! Bootsy is a Funk Pioneer...
WOW!! If that don't put a smile on your face and a tap in your foot you best check your blood flow. Besides some thick funk I like David and Hiram's solos.
Omar Hakim the best. Contagious watching everyone having fun in this clip. Sanborn uses the same licks on every show. There are dozens of unknown session guitarist that can play as well as Hiram Bullock. He simply won the lottery getting on that show. Funk is the most to olay live.
I was all about this until I noticed bootsy's bass parts in the chorus/verse seem to be tracked. It's gotta be him actually playing during Hiram's solo though because he loses the pocket but fuck man... at least he looks cool af.

The late, great, Hiram Bullock, was having a pary!!! Rest on, brother...

Hey Andre, How ya doin? Reggie here!! You are exactly right!!!!!! It's all about the groove. It's not a circus!!!!!

RIP to the great David Sanborn. This show was a gift to the world above and beyond all the great music he did himself.
The performance is killing. Stand outs for me are Bootsy's bass playing and Omar Hakim's kick drum work.

Bootsy looks like a galactic funk pirate.
3:38 She is one happy, satisfied guitar indeed.
Hiram could play anybody's music and make it better.
Could this be the funkiest video on TH-cam?? Unreal!
It is!
Hiram Bullock - world' most underrated guitarist.
RIP
Nope, he really sucked major donkey balls at guitar; he was booked just to help him as a "brother".
@@Minotauro_di_Chieti your beyond delusional
Allan Holdsworth would like a word with you....
@@synthonaplinth5980 Alan Holdsworth was fantastic but also highly rated by the cognoscenti.
Wow! Everyone brings something to the party. Wish the M1 was higher in the mix, though.
