Jesus what an arrangement. I recall watching this when it first aired. Best thing I had ever seen on late night TV to that point in time and since. Toots is a genius. He selflessly catalpults this piece into the stratosphere .
This was one of my top favorite programs. I miss this show terribly, they should kill of that still dying crpse of a show Saturday Night Live, and bring something like this back on. Good music all around. I can't think of a lousy performance obn this show, and you sure as hell wouldn't have had to endure Britney or Fergie or any of those other lesser pap stars
As performances of "Hey Joe" go, this is only pretty good - I say that as the owner of 90+ "Hey Joe" recordings. But the lineup of performers - Cave/Thieleman/Sanborn - makes it cooler. From Sanborn's short-lived "Night Music" program. One of the top 5 best programs to air in all my [too many] years on this planet.

Charlie Haden + Nick Cave= Eargasm!
I really love this haunting version of 'Hey Joe'!
Toots was so cool. What a great mashup.
A gem, and very much appreciated.
Powerful Stuff. Rest in Peace Arthur.....
Muy buena interpretación en general de una gran melodía, grabada en la historia de la música.
Musicians certainly are intense critters. I like any version of "Hey Joe".
Thanks thenewdamned for directing me to this awesome link!
The best band Nick Cave ever played with, even if it's just for a couple of tunes
I wish Hendrix could have lived to have seen this cover.
Absolutely man, truly..
Charley Haden!!!! Nice
awesome
RIP Toots :'(
Big oversight...Charlie Haden too.
Hoots!
Everything is great here, but that contra bass, that soprano saxophone and that harmonica, though!
swamp gothic style
What if Hendrix was still alive, or Rose and Jimi as backing vocals... gee, great moment anyway.
