Last week, I cried tears of sadness. Now this week, they are tears of joy for all the happiness his music gave me. Rest In Peace & Power, David Sanborn. Thank you for sharing your gifts to us.
David used to go to Art Shell Music on 48th Street in NY to get his horn repaired…I managed the guitar shop there. When I heard him playing, I’d go upstairs to say hello. He was as kind, talented and personable a person as you could ever meet! His unique sound always stood out, and his jazz licks were always tasteful, powerful and memorable. Bless you brother - Your music lives on!
Hopefully David and Hiram Bullock have reunited in the after world for a heavenly jam session. RIP Mr. Sanborn. Thanks for some of the greatest live music memories of my lifetime.
"Chicago Song" is still one of my all-time favorites. So, is the city, by the way! We David Sanborn fans are extremely grateful to have shared the planet with him. R.I.P, David Sanborn.
THE HARDEST WORKING SAXOPHONE ON THE PLANET. SO BLESSED TO HAVE HAD THE WONDERFUL PRESENCE OF DAVID SANBORN SMOOTH THE AIRWAVES FOR MUCH OF MY LIFE. I WAS INTRODUCED TO HIM WITH CARLYS SONG FROM HIS HIDEAWAY ALBUM WHICH INTRODUCED ME TO SMOOTH JAZZ. REST WELL KIND SIR AND THANKYOU.
A high tide lifts all boats, David your musical genius always brought out the best in everyone...a true gentleman and a great human RIP. Thank you for sharing your life with us...❤
David was my saxophone idol. I love this song. Tried to play it as a teenager. Couldn't master it. But, The Dream, was easier to play. He was one of the most eloquent jazz musicians to have impacted my life. Thanks, David. Sweet dream.
Just heard. Chicago Song was the first one I heard from David Sanborn on 93.9 FM Love 94 when I first moved to South Florida in 1995 and got hooked on smooth jazz. Been a favorite of mine ever since. RIP David Sanborn. ❤😢
What a band! So many great memories from back in the day seeing them live in the Chicagoland area. Hiram was one of the greatest performers I've ever seen, his energy was infectious and his crowd roaming forays were legendary. Sanborn was a master in finding the right components for his music. The Chicago Song was a perfect title.
I heard this song for the first time at the Park West in Chicago. David announced his newest song had no title so he said we'll call it the Chicago Song.
Has it been 7 years?! Holy crap!! I'm still listening to this. Must admit, as a sax player myself, David Sanborn is my idol, and this is probably my favorite of all.
OH my gosh, I forgot this great song, Chicago Song. Excellent is putting it mildly. So grateful to have all David's music at the tap of a bottom. Thank you David Sanborn. You were loved!😪
Hiram Bullock was the guy who turned me on to replacing the standard single coil pickups on a Stratocaster with Gibson Custom 57 pickups (the Wes Montgomery pickup) that gave him a sound no one else had. RIP.
thanx for your songs and.playing david.....these early and mid 80ies were the best period of music...funky with great melodies and jazzy solos.......from.the first.concert i saw you together with al jarreau i loved your sound and music......say hello in heaven to the great hiram too
So thankful I had a chance to see him live at The Birchmere in Alexandria VA before he stopped playing. R.I.P. David and thanks for all the great music !
I would wish, I could see David , Jr. Walker and Tower of Power pack a stage with horns. On this tune David lays down that vein in the forehead popping blast. Wow baby, I don't get enough of this and that band.
+snowstorm5590 It's also why he plays out of the side of his mouth and apparently why he chose alto over tenor. I've always thought that he had a very "tenor" sound for an alto player.
Sanborn spent much of his youth in an Iron Lung and because of the Polio, is stuntet in his left lower leg and requires a built up shoe to correct his gait
As we say in the South, Lawdy Mercy!!! Wonderfully high spirited song. Just heard the song on Jazz Chanel & looked it up. Blown away. Lifted my spirits. ( setting in wheelchair /fractured hip & foot but that song made my arms dance) the power of music!!😊👌
Thank you Mr. Sanborn for a song bearing the title of my favorite city, which happens to be my hometown...Man, I LOVE this song.....it's what you want to hear driving through the Loop during lunch hour break....love it...
David Sanborn was really hip, people didn't need disco-music for dancing ... :D Always with top-musicians in the band, the chemistry was there from the first bar. Nowadays Snarky Puppy walk in these footsteps but I still love DS.
I saw them do this on The Pier next to the USS Intrepid in NYC. It was just getting dark, and the ship & the NY skyline lights were coming on....it was an incredible summer night....
I saw the Sanborn Band perform our Maritime Center similar to what you experienced just as harbour lights were coming. It was visually stunning. I got to meet and talk with Mr. Sanborn and the band afterwards. Really awesome. I've been a fan since childhood and because of him and Grover Washington Jr. along with bands like Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire I learned to play saxophone.
am following him almost from the beginning and he stays one of the best saxplayers around, really amasing, perfect cocktail together with the other musicians
I was there !! This live was Jazz festival named "Live under the sky" in Tokyo. this is one of my best Daivd Sanborn 's band live pafomance. I deeply remenbered that Hiram Bulock was running down from stage !! He was so cool !!
What an amazing array of talent on one stage! Who wouldn't want to be a part of that? David Sanborn is killing it, as usually, and every single one of the band members is a star - AND can sing! They just don't come like that anymore...
WOW! Just discovered David Sanborn yesterday, when looking for the artist who played sax in David Bowie's "Can You Hear Me" (from Young Americans - great track). Anyway THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this - I can't stop playing it - AMAZING!
didn't know he had these disabilities.. kinda fits.. most kids with disabilities don't get out much. if they take up an instrument they practice a lot which later pays off... Kevin Duvernay ******@****
A lot of people don't know that David was also advised by his doctor to take up a woodwind instrument to help with his breathing and he chose the Saxaphone....The rest is History as they say :)
HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. RIP DAVID, YOUR MUSIC LIFTED US ALL
Yes it did...Voyeur was my introduction to jazz

David had such a signature sound and musicality. This band is off the dam chain.
I was at a Hiram Bullock concert in Chicago years ago. It was one of the most well paced and musically enriching concerts I have seen.
I would wish, I could see David , Jr. Walker and Tower of Power pack a stage with horns. On this tune David lays down that vein in the forehead popping blast. Wow baby, I don't get enough of this and that band.

(born on July 30th, 1945)
One of the great saxophonist I know, music I grew up with, Jazz my first love!💕💕💕 Just love David Sanborn!
David suffered from poliomyelitis as a kid. The doctor told him to start playing an instrument to strengthen his lungs. The rest is history.
+snowstorm5590 It's also why he plays out of the side of his mouth and apparently why he chose alto over tenor. I've always thought that he had a very "tenor" sound for an alto player.
Thank- You DAVID TOO YOU"".
Now in his seventies he’s experiencing respiratory problems which can occur later in life for victims of childhood polio.
Sanborn spent much of his youth in an Iron Lung and because of the Polio, is stuntet in his left lower leg and requires a built up shoe to correct his gait
He has the brightest, edgiest tone I've ever heard on a saxophone.
RIP David Sanborn. Such a loss
Hiaram Bullock was one of the funkiest lead guitar players "ever" his demise shocked me to the core.
The greatest Sax Player, saw him at Hammersmith Odeon
The greatest Alto Saxophonist of his generation.
