    I was describing Bill Alexander to a friend the other day and I used a similar example. I was like, “I started a video once and 12 minutes in and all he had done was put on a basecoat and lectured on philosophy of life, creativity, and art critique 😂 it was a delight to watch.

    Im a teacher. When Bill is rambling on about something, what he is actually doing is having the audience create a mind movie while he adds narration. It's a teaching technique for different types of learners.

    You are right! I used to watch Bill Alexander years ago and then all of a sudden, this new guy, Bob Ross came along! What the heck! Bill was so entertaining and such a character. I’ve been a painter for years (acrylic is my primary medium) but there is always something new to be learned and integrated into your own, creative toolbox. I wish more people knew about Bill Alexander.

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill is a huge character that's why I love him and his antics ha ha ha.
      Some of Bills paintings are done in sections and patches that an acrylic painter could do a lot of his paint-a-longs :)

    Thank you to make Bill Alexander more known. I love this guy and his videos made me actual start to paint,
    because of his unlimited passion and his unique character. I agree with you, that many of Bills paintigs (he did in the show!),
    were not as good as Bobs. But when you see what Bill can paint with that technique at home with more time, you wouldn´t believe.
    He is a real genius to make such detailed paintigs, especially his still life paintings. Cheers!

    Love both of them. Bill is kind of abstract but I love his fiery passion and go for it approach. He was my original inspiration. Bob is gentle and soft spoken but his style and approach have a more completed look but still completes paintings in less than 30 minutes. I followed him when Bill ended. So much to learn from them both and it's great we have their free videos to teach us. Happy Painting 🎨

    I agree Wild, Bill Alexander was easier to paint along with, my granddaddy learned how to paint using the Bill Alexander style in the late 70s then when Bob Ross came along in the 80s my granddaddy said Bob was a little too fast and Bill was a better teacher based on his simpler approach. Granddaddy taught me how to paint when I was 5 using Bill Alexander books,paint kits and vcr tapes that I always watched. I wish my granddaddy’s paintings were still around, he did a lot of beautiful scenes from around our farm in Savannah but they all got destroyed in a hurricane back in 1999

    2 different things about Bill and Bob : First, the tone of the videos. Bob Ross looks and speak like a post hippie would talk, he's calm and quiet, speaking about peace and friendship. He could bear a flower at his shirt... if there was not a squirrel in his pocket! On the other side, Bill is.... barely a caricature of a german : He speaks of violence and strenght, of fear and action, of power and... happiness... Ok, this one is weird compared to the others.... In fact, Bob speaks of the joy of painting (no lie, in fact) where Bill speaks of overcoming fears. Both looks are great, even if they seems opposite. The second thing strange is that Bob's painting are a little more difficult to do, and require lot more colors (7-8 for Bob, not more than 4 for Bill) and curiously, Bill's paintings looks much more.... adult, we could say? Maybe because of the very little colors used, it seems less cartoon, maybe. Maybe they look more realistic?... I don't know... But every friend of mine tends to prefer my Bill's painting (wich is a little frustrating, since Bob's are harder to do!). The advice is very good : Go and watch Bill AND Bob, not just one of them. (And the accent of Bill is sometime really hilarious! Since I'm French, I can see when he fails to say the correct word or expression, and it is really touching, I feel...) Be next to God, the Master of Light!!

      Depends is the honest answer. Because there are so many variables. Best answer I can give is test it the next time you paint with a light color and see if it spreads and blends the way you like... it if does your good to go. If it doesn't re-wet it with a little medium.
      Hope that helps.

    I love Bob Ross and he was a very great painter! In my opinion,I feel like Bill’s landscapes look more realistic oppose to Bob’s landscapes.Bob’s landscapes almost looks animated if that makes any sense🤷🏾I prefer Bill,because of that and he goes into detail a lot more than Bob did.I’ve been watching Bob since I was a young kid and I’m 42 now.I just found Bill about about a month ago and I’m so glad I did! I stopped watching Bob all together after discovering Bill.One example for me is,Bill’s mountains look very realistic oppose to Bob’s looking too perfect and too “Neat”.Bill just throws his mountains on and they are never that detailed as far by as the peaks of the mountains.I love that look of mountainsI definitely don’t agree with watching Bill first and then “Graduate” to watching Bob.I think you can learn everything you need to know about the wet on wet technique from Bill.

    Bill Alexander is very much the master, Ross, the pupil. Alexander's repertoire far exceeds Ross's: still life, abstract impressionism, as well as the traditional land- and seascapes. While it's true that Ross is more accessible and perhaps less taxing to learn from, I disagree that he's "better" than, or an "upgrade" from, Bill Alexander. Quite the opposite. Ross is certainly better known, but that's a fairly common distinction between a master and a practitioner with the former usually relegated to the studio or classroom to teach his or her method to the best-and-brightest students. So Alexander's "ramblings" are priceless. We're actually in the privileged position of witnessing a master at work while Ross is your typical protege following an (Alexander's) andragogy. Yes, we're charmed by Ross's folksy; he's far less demanding than Alexander, and so we all laugh at his epithets of happy little trees and clouds, but, make no mistake, *all of his shtick is Alexander's. Anyway, thanks for doing what you do! I love your videos!

Ross was a good painter but he stuck to his normal sky, mountain, trees and barn. Where alexander had completed alot more out of his comfort zone including a burning candle etc. alexander doesn’t get the recognition he deserves of a lifetime of painting compared to ross who learned what he needed to (from Alexander )then moved on to tv.
