I cannot understand how Diane Abbot has got as far as she has in politics. For twenty odd years she has been lacking nuance and verging on hysteria. Her justification for drone attacks because they are an act of war was puerile.

She's not actually wrong on the issue here but Diane Abbott's reaction to this whole issue shows she's completely incapable of dealing with these issues. There are some situations where there is no easy answer and getting emotional about the one that was taken is just advertising your ignorance about how bad the alternative might've been.

Also, it's important to note that Abbott's beliefs on the issue would do a complete 180 if it was her faction doing them; I guarantee you she'd find a way to insert a moral grey area then, as Murray did in this video.

This conversation really is exasperating and is symptomatic of how political debate and dialogue in this country has degraded in it's sophistication. Douglas makes a detailed discussion about degrees of torture, which is correct, but Diane Abbot skips over the detail entirely and wastes the next few minutes of the discussion on an emotional and factually incorrect shouty diatribe in which she appeared to have missed all the nuances of what Douglas was saying. So then Douglas in effect has to repeat himself, largely for her benefit, rather than focussing on the important details of the discussion. Why can't she just listen and think about what's being said before going into emotional knee jerk mode. She's utterly useless, and to think she's now a member of the shadow cabinet. God help us (and I'm an atheist). Tiresome to say the least.

I usually think DM has some good arguments but in this segment I was left unimpressed. I hate to agree with Diane Abbott, but he *was* trying to minimize prisoner torture. Thus, the repeated citing of "slapping" in the film, and the silence on "rectal feeding" - which *Diane* mentioned. I'm actually American...and when this torture report came out I was never less proud of it. The ticking bomb argument is a false argument...and the rest is just sadism.

MrHappyBollox Agreed. I would never pick shocks to the balls over sleep deprivation and prolonged drinks but lets be real haha; its always going to be torture and it will undoubtedly be traumatising to the vast majority. Extremely motivated individuals with a lot to lose don't just crack under minimally traumatising abuse.

MrHappyBollox Technology will advance here undoubtedly making techniques more effective and quicker but regardless, its always torture. I think its also important to note that some would argue torture stands on the toes of dignity and respect that arguably murder doesnt. This doesnt sway my views in any significant way but is personally food for thought.

Abbot deserves all criticisms and insults as she is not only an imbecile, but highly ineffective and dangerous as a politician - the fact she is black will not save her from the repercussions of those failings.... and you erroneously insinuating any dislike of her is solely down to her skin colour is pathetic, petty, extremely disingenuous and displays beyond any doubt that you are trying to start a race row.
