  • In this video I show the process for replacing the font suspension upper control arms (with ball joints) lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends on a 1998 4WD Ford Explorer. This process is similar to 2wd versions as well as a broad year model range of Ford Explorer vehicles.

    It was a good video regardless of the lack of close ups. You made things happen Tim. Everything seemed to move right along. This will certainly help those who have this vehicle.

    Ford was nice enough to make that tool universal so it will work on other vehicles, but of course it works on Fords best.

      I cant explain Ford thinking. Here in Michigan I had to be extra gentle because those lines usually had a layer of rust keeping them from leaking. haha!

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet. Even this one was starting to rust. I think that’s why the outer end failed in this case because it was heavily corroded.

    • @smittdog2005

      behind the shock is two bolt heads that hold fuel line knock the nut off with a hammer and screw driver then you can move lines you dont need that bracket anyway

  • @betzy51
    @betzy51 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you replace the lower ball joint do you have to replace the bushings of the control arm?
    Are these bushings the same or different?

    • @BlindMansRevenge2002
      @BlindMansRevenge2002 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Betzaida Acevedo The answer to your question is no. With this year Ford explore you have two choices. The first being that you can replace the ball joints only or you can swap out the entire lower control arm assembly. If you choose to swap out the entire lower control arm assembly and you get the part from Ford it will already have the ball joints and bushings pre-installed.

  • @garylangley4502
    @garylangley4502 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Considering the condition of the ball joints and outer tie rod ends, unless the inner tie rod ends are fairly new, I would have replaced them also as long as I had everything apart.

    Some people you have to splain everything two2 em like jack up the car before removing
    lug nuts or things might get mangulated including the person mangulating the vehicle.
    Don't play in the street kids, ya might get that run down feeling.

      tom walma no you cannot. Or you will effect the negative camber when it comes to adjust it. It was designed the way it was bolted in the correct direction by factory

    • @tomwalma4762
      @tomwalma4762 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josh Benney , I would argue that bolts going through bushings and their corresponding nuts could be reversed.

      These OE bolts in particular don’t seem to fit any other position unless you replace with an adjustable bolt and cam. The alignment came out dead on after the toe was adjusted.
