  • Long-term review of the the Kindle Scribe, Amazon's first ever e-ink tablet with a 10.2 inch display that you can write on. We'll take you through the major software updates the device has received since launch that most reviews won't have covered. Plus, we'll take you through whether its worth getting as a note taking device, what the reading experience is like on a larger tablet.
We'll also discuss why you would go for a Kindle Scribe over an iPad or Android e-ink tablet, how it's price compares to the Remarkable 2, how this Kindle performs against something like the Kindle Paperwhite and Onyx Boox, the downsides we've encountered with the device and who we recommend it for.

So glad I saw your video, got it for my daughter as a school book and notebook replacement. It may not have android, but as a note taking device it is truly awesome. Love the turn on speed, love the low lag, and the great price. Many thanks for your review. Great for any student going to school, and wanting to replace all of their notebooks.

Better get an iPad with a paperlike screen protector, you get the same writing feel but with endless more capabilities. I think the price for this is really too much for what it offers. Bein its basically just a kindle for only reading, with added note taking application, but nothing else. If you could do more with it than just creating a new note and write something down then ok. But 300$ extra just for pen an note is too much.

It is quite promising how the Kindle versions develop. Still decided to go with a new Paperwhite signature edition as replacement of my old kindle. The Scribe can certainly be nice, if you really use the features and - for many - if it finally gets a handwriting to text function. And if you can live with the weight. I guess it might annoy me. But for others like me who will not make much use of the functions it is too pricey. I just want to read, I hope that when the new Paperwhite turns old in a few years there will be an updated version of the Oasis.

I woudl recommend just getting a perlite screen protector. Then you have the paper non gloss look, plus the paper feel exactly like this. All the benefits of both worlds in one. For the price of over 400$ this kindle is overprices for what it actually offers.

Got a question! If you rotate horizontally to write notes, when you rotate back to vertical to read them. Does the screen/notes go all wacky or no change?, What I mean, do they get fixed and can't rotate
When writting notes, I prefer more horizontal space, but when I want to read my notes in another ocasion, I prefer to hold the kindle in a vertical position

This is my friend's second Kindle. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.

Can this, or any other e-writer, handles lists so that I can easy remove done items, change the order priority of items in a list etc. It would also be nice to have notes on a list item that are hidden until the list item is selected. I currently use a supernote and like it in general but I spend my life making lists and lists are just handles like any other text which really isn't very useful to me. I've had a paperwhite for years and love it when it comes to reading - the waterproofing is particularly useful for when reading in the bath!

My favorite part of this video is seeing someone with similar hand writing as me to use the product. My hand writing SUCKS and it was horrible on an ipad mini I use to own. I've had this device for 2 weeks now. It is missing some basic settings like how long to wait before going to standby, or how to enlarge system fonts. The blacks are not really black but grey and when you read a PDF is it painfully visible. The default contrast is not as good as it was on my previous kindle which is a very old model. I wanted it to read PDF files and I find the process tedious. The two finger enlargement actually is hard to control. The text goes to very big very fast. About the notes. Did you notice the author keeping his hand above the surface while writing? That is because if you have more than one page, it tends to go backwards to the previous page if you rest your palm on it. The writing experience is great really the feeling of it and the speed of the marker. But overall for me this device is too expensive for what it can offer. Look at the details when you decide.

I've had so many Kindles, I don't own any of them now. All had feeling of "something lacking" and tries too hard to "sell you something" through connecting to Amazon Cloud everytime you tried to do something. On the other hand, I enjoy reading using Kobo though it's not as quick and responsive as the Kindle. Everyone is different so this might work for most people while I enjoy reading mostly but need the large screen to read PDFs with backlighting. Comfort lighting is a big plus that makes you feel like you're actually reading a paper book. Just my two cents.

@@ch3ckm8 I bought one and I have mixed feelings about it. It seems for 5 months now there are no meaningful updates. We are still missing so much:
      1. Can't see your annotations on other devices (including kindle ones)
      2. Can't duplicate/move/delete pages in PDFs or between notebooks
      3. Can't change templates between pages (really frustrating!)
      4. No quick access drawer for favourite or recent notebooks
      5. No tagging support and very limited searching / filtering options
      6. Can't move PDF notebooks under Notebooks, they show up under Library/Books only, why Amazon!
      7. Can't rotate selection with the lasso tool or draw straight lines
      8. Can't keep current page on the screen indefinitely, it goes to its own screensaver
      9. No conveniences like tap with 2/3 fingers to undo/redo
      10. Can't create links between pages/notebooks
Etc, etc - the hardware is great but the software feels half baked still. It has really improved earlier on but seems Amazon is now neglecting this device :(

  • @whitreader

As a reading device it lacks the ability to remove books from the home page to the library where the collections are. Organizing your books is important so the home page isn't being cluttered with new books you have purchased or books you have read but don't need them on the home page any longer. The Kindle App on the iPhone, iPad, and Fire have the capability to remove the books back to the library and into collections. Amazon software writers please help the reader have the control for a more pleasant reading experience.
