I've never had the subscription and I've been using all the features on it just fine for about a year, note syncing, text conversion, emailing, etc. The big thing is probably the limited storage, but if you're just taking hand written notes, you can easily thousands of pages on the free tier.

You can send and store whole books on it, annotate pdfs, rearrange pages in your notebooks and move the text around with marque tools, and even concert your notes to text and email them off. I always write notes by hand, and with physical paper and pen I couldn’t easily add more. If I was assigned 7 articles for homework, I’d either have to leave blank pages between each one or write an addendum later from class discussion. The remarkable gives great flexibility. Plus, I just have to load my assigned readings to it and I’m good for class. I don’t need a laptop and a notebook and a textbook etc etc. Just this thing, maybe a thumbdrive if Im presenting. I’ve never been in class or at a conference and had it die on me, the wifi connectivity is good, and the storage space is GOATED. I have multiple books on it and it’s no where close to full. LOVE REMARKABLE!!! Would recommend.

the concept of remarkable (the note thing) is actually pretty dope, sadly sometimes some settings or previously used features got burnt into the screen. sometimes i was able to remove it, sometimes not. the cloud system worked not that fine and in the end i got myself an ipad with the strict rule of not downloading any social media or video apps
