I just got a Kindle Scribe and am learning everything it can do, this was helpful! Thanks. Other videos were from when it first came out and all moaning about the functions it didn't have, whereas your video lists the updates and most of those functions seem to have been added! It's good that Amazon listen to the feedback.

I just got a Kindle Scribe so I don't have a before update view! I've had the scribe for about a month now and just yesterday learned of the "write on" books. I also didn't fully understand the different writing options till yesterday either! Sorry it was a different video that clued me in but I would like to add, I was still perfectly happy without knowing these options. Now that I have tried them I am over the moon excited. I was making note books to keep track of appointments and projects. I now have a daily planner and project journal that are interactive. This is so much easier!
I've also had a fascination with fonts and calligraphy. While the fountain pen feature might not allow complex writing styles it might lend to some cool practice.
Your video did show me an easier way to find the puzzle books and journals. I do thank you for that. I'm off to watch your other video to see if I can learn anything else! Thank you for the follow up style review it was helpful.

I had thought the same thing, but sticky notes are so much better. When you export them, you can view the highlighted text next to your sticky note. So easy and nice to save as a pdf so you can have your notes from any book easily accessible. I have a book where I can write on the pages themselves, and the export is so much messier. Sending entire pages rather than highlights and notes.

@@lisawelch9788problem is that would majorly cut down on battery life. My papaperwhite for instance even after about 7 years will standby for about 45 days. Reading during the day in sunlight with backlight off I can get about 16 hours or read time. Backlight full brightness maybe about 10-12 hrs. I really do look forward to the day when it's an all in one device though. A multimedia device, e-ink, and e-reader. It is so much better then reading kindle on a normal backlit led tablet or phone

I purchased a Scribe in the recent Amazon sale in the UK. My thoughts:
    1) Excellent screen real estate.
    2) It's heavy and with a case heavier still. And it really does need a case. Kindle screens are delicate and are easily damaged. That's why I haven't gone the clear case for the back and sleeve route.
    3) I own a 7th and an 11th generation Paperwhite. At least in a darkened room, with the backlight on, the screen in terms of brightness is comparable to the 7th generation. The Scribe is not even close to the 11th generation which gives off a lovely white light that is clear and almost pristine. Side by side the Scribe's screen looks greyer and darker. This obviously means that the contrast is not as good on the Scribe and makes reading more difficult. Perhaps mine is faulty. In any event, I'm going to ask for a replacement to check this out.
    4) Not concerned about notes. I have an iPad and computer for that and I very rarely write notes when I am reading.

The updates are great, but I'm still on the fence. If the sketching ability were also improved - for instance, being able to output sketches as something other than PDFs, and possibly even allowing for layers - this would be an instant buy for me. As it is, I'm going to hold off a bit. Maybe wait for the 2nd model.

Hi thank you very much for the information. Two improvements I would like to see in the Kindle scribe is more highlight options only one big line. It should have the options more lines different sizes and about four different symbols for highlights. And the other option is the ability to read all books on the Kindle store it already has the start of Bluetooth on Audible. And one more comes to mind. Amazon should be targeting schools with these devices. Kindle Scribe and the Kindle Max II Regards Joseph. And a proper Synchronizing for all Kindle devices on the send to Kindle browsers any issues you can go to sync your Kindle devices

I've been on the fence about the Scribe a few times, pretty much each time it gets a decent discount.
I think the one feature that's holding me back by now is the low(ish) resolution exports. If it gets proper vector strokes (like the reMarkable has) I'll be out of reasons not to get it.

Not being an artist I’ve never considered vector support which the reMarkable 2 does indeed seem to support (after a quick Google search to confirm and I found this - www.reddit.com/r/kindlescribe/comments/11ho4q9/kindle_scribe_for_artist_feature_requirement/).

    • @ToniCorvera
      @ToniCorvera 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@mark_kelly happy to provide additional perspective :)
I'm actually not an artist either, but I can see myself exporting handwritten notes reasonably often, and super-crisp results would be desirable, if not a must; just a little extra to make the price more of a steal.
After trying a bunch of note taking apps on Android I've seen some of them produce fairly blurry PDFs once you zoom in even just a bit, while the ones that remain sharp use very high resolution images (none of them used actual vectors as far as I can tell).
And from what I've read the Scribe would be closer to one of the former.

I agree. I just got mine and was excited to see the options for a planner style notebook but then disappointed to see I could only use one. At first I used a folder with three notebooks. One for week one for day and last for year. Just bought one of the write-on daily planners last night. While I was having fun with my work around and even getting compliments at work with it, the interactive one is so much easier. I can only imagine if we could do this ourselves within our custom notebook.

In the ever more common comparisons between Scribe and Remarkable, which would you recommend for someone that just wants to receive documents, review and write on them, and maybe sign them or send back to someone else as a pdf? Would love to lean Kindle as I do read books and magazines and would love the larger screen size. However, the most important thing to me would be the ease of receiving a document, marking it up, and sending it back out. Many thanks for your thoughts!

I think the Kindle would be the way to go, particularly if you’re already invested in the Amazon ecosystem with Kindle books and audible.
Both the reMarkable and the Scribe could do what you specifically ask. I believe reMarkable has better cloud services integration but you pay for this privilege via subscription. I also think the reMarkable is more expensive when you add all that may need together (pens, services etc). Finally, it may be a small thing but when I tried out the reMarkable for a few weeks I found I really missed the backlight available on the Scribe and not the reMarkable.

      4. Transfer PDF Files: Drag and drop the PDF files from your computer into the newly created folders on your Kindle.
      5. Eject Kindle Safely: Once the files are transferred, safely eject your Kindle from the computer to ensure all files are properly saved.

I have a Kindle Oasis, still in perfect order all except for the battery; it loses charge within a couple of hours. Yes, you can. It should auto-orientate to work with other hand.

Just stuck between boox and kindle. Most of my books are in kindle ecosystem so that's a plus. However, apart from share via email, I never saw anyone talking about exporting pdfs or notes directly from the scribe. Is it not possible? What if my documents are more than 200mb? Will that still go through mail? Exporting notes and markups as pdf is the only reason I'm considering boox, even though it's pricey and I don't need that many features. So if scribe can do that, I'm down with kindle again.
One more fact, can I export sticky notes like other highlights and notes too?

Thanks for your comment and questions. I believe 200MB is the limit so if your documents are going to exceed that regularly I’m not sure the Scribe would be right for you. You should be able export from the Scribe to a computer if connected via USB-C.
I found this link which should help - blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2022/12/17/kindle-scribe-30-tips-and-tricks/
And also this discussion thread - www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4355510

Why wouldn’t they let you convert your notes to text right on the notebook instead of only when you’re exporting? Seems dumb

Maybe they use their servers to do the text conversion which saves having to have a more powerful (and power hungry) processor on device?

If you buy a new Kindle Scribe does it come with all the updates on it?

    • @mark_kelly
      @mark_kelly  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for your question Jenny. When you buy a new Kindle Scribe (like any tablet or similar device), it typically comes with the firmware that was current at the time it was manufactured and then sent to warehouse. So it may or may not!
Updating doesn’t take too long and it should update automatically anyway if it needs it - generally when it’s on charge.

I would like a coloured e reader that’s bright like an iPad. But which is the best to go for? I don’t like Kindle anymore.

    • @mark_kelly

I don’t think you’re going to get the brightness you say you’re after from an eink display and maybe a more traditional tablet - like a Kindle Fire - might be for you?

Thanks for the video. Have just book a kindle scribe, lots of great things about it but just this one thng makes it unbearable to use to the extent that I'm seriously thinking of sending it back : every single time I scroll down on a pdf page, it flashes to dark mode which makes reading a torture. Might anyone have a solution for this? I'd like to keep it but this is a big No for me.

That's how ereaders work :( I guess it can be fixed with a software update though.

Thanks for your comment! I’d have to agree with the other comment on your post. E-ink struggles with images as it has to refresh the screen completely to stop ghosting. I imagine this is the same issue you’re having with your PDF files as it tries to present a ‘clean’ document to you.

I email my PDFs to my Scribe using my personal Amazon kindle scribe email address. Quickest method I’d say
