    • @dearaujothayna
      @dearaujothayna 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@ongjanetteof course! I was already looking for something smaller and cheaper. The only difference between them is basically the water resistance and the size, and those things didn't matter to me at the time, so it was not worth paying more for the paperwhite only to have those 2 features.
      I have the basic one for over 5 months now and I love it! I read for hours every single day and I only charge it every 15 days or less, also the kindle is so small that fits every single purse that I have so I can carry with me everywhere I go. I also use it for work uploading documents that I'll need to read and check while working.

    Been searching for a side by side comparison of the screen lighting of the different Kindles! Thanks for this. I use an Oasis (and love it) but preparing for its eventual phase out. I hope I am wrong, but there hasn’t been any real news about it being upgraded. I’m partial to its asymmetrical shape and buttons… but if I have to choose another replacement, I’ll was hoping for a non-flush screen one like the Basic but the difference in the number of LEDs between the Oasis and the Basic will probably be too noticeable to me. But there’s something about a non-flush screen - I remember my first one, the Kindle Keyboard! Wonderful device :) completely sold me on ereading.

    I have 2mm crack on my 2016 Paperwhite screen due to dropping an eye glasses case about a foot above the Kindle. It doesn't have the flush glass screen over the eINK display. When this happened the Kindle was in a neoprene case. For the basic Kindle I'd suggest a hard cover. For your Oasis cover I'd check the Dollar Tree for a thin cutting film you could cut to size to fit in what looks like an outer pocket. If the Oasis display is facing the plastic sheet but not in contact with it in the outer pocket you might have more protection if something like keys or a cell phone was dropped on the display.

    I am as a language learner really interested in an immersion reading. So, what do think about the onyx boox e-readers?
    Could you make a review on some of them? Please.
    Would it be possible to use the immersion reading on them?

      I don't have any Onyx ereaders, so I can speak to them specifically, although I do know the connection to the Amazon environment makes the Kindles pretty great.
      Immersion Reading is a feature exclusive to the Amazon Kindle App on phones and tablets, and is not available on dedicated eReaders.

      I think it's still superior to the Paperwhite because of it's ergonomic design, it's larger screen, and it's page turn buttons. For those reasons, I still think it's superior. If those things aren't important to you, then the Paperwhite is a fantastic choice. I keep waiting for an update, and keep being surprised when there isn't one. If the Oasis goes the way of the Voyage (ie discontinued), I hope they replace it with something better. The only non-modern feeling element to the Oasis is the micro USB charging port.

    I’m thinking about buying a kindle so I have an easy way to read books when I am in bed with a newborn. I’m trying to decide between the Paperwhite and Oasis. Which is best for one-handed use? I’m thinking having the page turn buttons would be easier than having to move my hand from left to right to turn pages, but how frequently will I actually be turning backwards? Any commenters have an opinion on which device is best for nursing mothers? Also, how is the screen responsiveness? All of them look pretty laggy in all the videos I watched. Any first hand accounts to share?

    • @ongjanette
      @ongjanette 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I think the creator mentioned in the comments that the Oasis is unavailable right now and hadn't been updated for a while. If I were you I'd want the most lightweight wch is the basic. Or Paperwhite if you don't mind a holding something bit heavier but with a much brighter screen. If you've been used to the 120hz scrolling or promotion, Kindles would seem laggy, but I don't mind especially as it doesn't tire my eyes as much and I can control font size. You don't need to swipe with the basic Kindle, just tap a bit to the right going forward, or a bit to the left going backwards. I have an old 2011 basic model though, but I doubt they would regress the functions with the newer ones. So I mean you can read with 1 hand on even the basic or Paperwhite even without buttons.

    With due respect, it's not a waste of money to have the extra storage on the paperwhite. In my case, I have a 16GB paperwhite, and it's almost full. The problem with that is, I don't have a computer to backup the books on my kindle. Many of my books are sideloaded. So, if I were to delete them, I wouldn't be able to retrieve them. Yes, I have many free books which I got from Amazon, but like I said, there are many sideload books I can't retrieve. I also have very limited data, so re-dowloading books would also be a major issue.

    lm tempting to get the scribe. I got the paperwhite edition, but found that its too small, and Im not really enjoying the reading experience. Not sure if I should just stick with my ipad Pro... I can always switch off the brightness on my ipad so that it doesnt hurt my eyes... what I really like to see with the Kindle device is some colours. Even just blue, red and yellow color would help tremendously.

    • @onemanbookclub2585
      @onemanbookclub2585  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If size is the thing, the Scribe would certainly help there. Hold an 8.5 in x 11 in pad of paper in your hand--that's about how big it is. But the trade off is the weight. To me, it's a bit too heavy to feel comfortable as my primary reading device. IMO its note taking features are what makes it a winner. You might see if you can find an outlet near you that has a Kindle Oasis you can demo. Oddly enough, the more square (and slightly larger) screen make a significant difference in the reading experience vs the Paperwhite. It may just be enough bigger for you. Good luck!

    Hi. Thank you _so_ much for this!
    I believe that the "Basic" models you are showing are the 10th Gen.
    There is, I believe an 11th Gen option now, which, sadly is not available in white (no fingerprints!)
    I was always an avid reader, but bought a Kindle 4th Gen about 10 years ago, which, like yours, revolutionised my reading. That lasted till a couple of years ago, when I "upgraded" to the Basic White, 10th Gen, which I keep in a MOKO snap shut case, which I much prefer to the OEM Amazon case, as it's much lighter, but has the same functionality. However, I also have a nice, bespoke "sleeve," for when I want to go naked! 😱😱
    Not sure that I really need to upgrade again for a while, as I much prefer the white option.
    I wouldn't mind if they brought back the page turning buttons though! 😉😉📚

    • @onemanbookclub2585

      You are correct on all counts. You can download your ebooks to your Kindle. But the size of a typical text only ebook is 1MB, and there is 6GB of storage space on an 8GB kindle...which means you can download 6000 ebooks onto your 8GB kindle! Likely less than. That in practice, but still...thousands.
      Other things rk consider: if you're a heavy consumer of Audio books on your kindle, they are much larger. You could store around 35 Audio books on an 8GB kindle. If your read illustration heavy books like comics or Manga, you might need more space.

I had to have it, the newest paperwhite is just not friendly to hold in either hand, and I frequently swipe too many pages and lose my place. I think older software allowed you adjust sensitivity to adjust for this. My favorite way to use the new paperwhite is with a case that stands on a table. Personally, the connection to the Amazon ecosystem via Kindle devices make them the most desirable for me. Ease of use, Whispersync across devices (including audio), Immersion Reading...all things I would miss if I used a device other than Kindle. Good luck!

      @@onemanbookclub2585 I bought a Kindle! somebody was selling a brand new never opened Kindle Paperwhite Signature... if I bought it at full price I would be looking at $300-$350 AUD I think. but they were selling it for $100 which was a great price for me, it was $50 cheaper than the kid's Kindle I was leaning towards getting. I have had it for 3 days now and I have hardly put it down, I have finished 5 books already.
      I will have to watch some videos about Whispersync and Immersion reading

    Great video man. Bummer about the oasis. That’s the one I really want! I hope they bring it back

    At spot 27:40, for example: Is it just me, or are you noticing the Kindle base model and Kindle Oasis as having a whiter, less yellowy, background? Any insights? I've seen mentions of "cool" light and "warm light" for some model e-readers, but I never paid much attention until now. Maybe there's an adjustment setting, anyways?

      You are seeing the auto adjusting warm light adjusting at different speeds. The base model doesn't adjust at all, so reading in the dark can be a bit more harsh because the light stays cool.

      @@onemanbookclub2585 Interesting. Thanks. I've always liked my Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight's white lighting; maybe it didn't auto-adjust to the warmer yellowy look you're teaching me about. I’m reading now that some of the Kindle models let you manually adjust the warm vs cool lighting…fabulous.

    I really wanted the Oasis and my local store has one they are holding for me, I currently have the 16gb 11th gen Paperwhite and they’re willing to trade that in and I pay $100 more to get an 8gb Oasis no ads, do you recommend I do that even though the Oasis has been discontinued?
    I just fear it’s longevity as I don’t want to upgrade for the next ten years if I can.
    Pls let me know asap as I need to pick it up asap if I am trading in.
