I feel so angry that the police are for adults and even if they don’t get justice , they can leave the arena of abuse. CPS are the child’s police. I have a nearly 4 year old daughter and a 3 week old son and yes there is a lot of screaming crying changing diapers - not the funnest stuff- but for me and for a lot of other mothers I’m friends with, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done and the memories I have with my children - even the three week old though we haven’t had a lot of time together yet- are the happiest and most fulfilling moments I’ve ever experienced.

The mother should have been charged too for not obeying the no contact order. And the detective should have lost her job completely. Giving light sentences or none at all is just gonna continue to allow children to be in insafe homes. People have to be held responsible.This child could have and should have been saved!!

Foster parent for 14 years, never meant to adopt. After about 2 years of fostering we were placed with a medically fragile infant. We were the second placement for him.
He came to us at 6 months with healing fractured scull and 12 broken ribs.
He was with us for 18 months while the bio mother was given classes, counseling, housing and everything you can think of. I was told all along that reunification was the plan. I facilitated visits in my home and basically acted as if mid twenties bio mom were one of my foster kids.
When Mom was given unsupervised visits and the child had a seizure and she called me and not 911, it finally dawned on her that she was not prepared for this child that she had so injured. She begged me to adopt him and to keep him safe.

The "mother" is just as guilty of Brayden's death as if she dealt the killing blow herself. She knew Luke was abusive to Brayden's and did nothing to protect him. Life in prison no parole for child abusers!

My gf had custody of a kid that sexually assault her 5 year old daughter. She brought her kid to the hospital, police, dhs and she didn't want the boy anymore but couldn't get rid of him or she'll get in trouble. 😢

Agreed. There was an awful case here in the UK a few years ago where a mum met a new man and moved him into her home within a week of meeting him. Two or three weeks later he beat her 3 year old son to death in a fit of rage when she was out of the house. These men are like lions who take over a new pride, and pick off the cubs that aren't his. They have no emotional bond whatsoever with the children whose lives they have entered, then these innocent children pay the price for their mothers selfish behaviour.

Appreciate you two highlighting not just parental failures; but massive failures in the very system that's literally in place to protect children. A lot of our news outlets in Ohio seemingly go out of their ways to not mention anything related to the police or CPS failing to do their jobs. It's pretty disheartening they're so tight lipped about revealing the full stories. Thank you for everything you do. Stay warm!

Every single adult who knew there was a protective order in place is complicit in this child's death. Also, the statistical likelihood of child abuse increases significantly when a boyfriend is moved into the home.

I followed this case from the beginning. The father of Luke is well known in True crime cases for stalking and attacking victims of crime masquerading as "an advocate". He turned the whole tragedy in to a circus and made it all about him. He mocked the victim and stalked and harassed the family. He still lies to this day about his despicable behaviour.

I feel bad for Kelsey. People want to blame her and make her out to be the bad person. She didn't kill her son the man she loved and trusted did. I have been with a man that abused my son, but I was lucky and got away from this man. But, until you are in that position you cannot understand what kind of hold that person has on you. Kelsey lost her son, and I can't imagine the pain and guilt she feels. Bringing up the fact that she is facing drug charges was not necessary. I cannot and do not want to imagine the pain she has endured, and cannot grasp the fact that people want to judge her for the way she has handled her grief. Many parents that lose a child turn to drugs as a way to cope. So, for all of you that want to judge her and have never been in her shoes, well, you should step back and think about what she has gone through and try and imagine if you lost your child, what would you do? Oh, that's right, you cannot imagine what she has been through because you have never walked a day in her shoes. Kelsey, if by chance you read this, my heart goes out to you. @@katrinavazquez8126I hear what you're saying but this man had previously injured her child badly enough that CPS and police got involved and she was ordered to have no contact with him. At that point she knew he was violent to her son and had the potential to do the same again and still chose the relationship with him over the safety and wellbeing of her child. I have been in a situation where my partner abused me and while I didn't know it at the time abused my kids, not to this extent but they always had small bruises that I couldn't account for, which never happened again after we left, at the time I figured they were just from normal kid stuff like playing and falling. Then one day he crossed the line (with extreme emotional/verbal abuse, I'd still not realized there was physical abuse) and I chose to take my 3 kids and leave to keep them safe. I very much understand the hold an abuser can have on someone, especially considering my abuser was my first boyfriend when I was 17, then became my husband of 10 years and father of my 3 children. I do feel for her, she didn't cause his death and likely feels guilt for not protecting him; I also know the greif of loosing a child is the worst feeling imaginable (I lost a son before my daughters were born so i speak from experience). She did however, choose to stay in a situation that had already proven to be dangerous to her child, she failed to protect him from someone who had previously hurt him. I hope in time she and any other adult who knew about or suspect the abuse can forgive themselves and heal and find peace; and that she is able to become a better mother for her other child. This was s preventable tragedy.

I am so thankful that you are giving a voice to these precious victims but I'm starting to think there is a real issue in this area. Working in the medical field I see so much and then to listen to additional coverage from the misery machine has made me very discouraged. I am feeling hopeless

I raised my stepson from the time he was 2 years old, and there was no time that I ever hit him, or even thought about hitting or beating him. He was not my biological child, but I thought of him as my own. I would never hurt a child, not my own, not anyone else’s. I don’t see how anyone could harm a child. Brayden’s mother is just as guilty as Luke. She knew he was abusing her son, and knew that he had no feelings for her son. How she could have a child with Luke, is just stupid! She isn’t that bright!
I never had children of my own, but I have a stepdaughter who's been in my life since she was a year old. She's 26 now. I would NEVER dream of hurting her. It takes a truly sick person to do thus. If Luke didn't want to go to jail, he shouldn't have abused him. These child abusers all have this in common in that they think nothing of abusing children until karma catches up to them. They're pathetic. If anyone treated their dog like this, the SPCA would be all over them like white on rice and they'd never be allowed to own another pet again, but people (and I use the term loosely) get to have kids and treat them like this. It's disgusting.

CPS step in, in cases where they aren't needed and ignore cases where they should be stepping in. They make me sick! These poor innocent babies that have been murdered by their own parents or adults tbat care for them. The people they should trust the most and CPS does NOTHING!!! They need to start being held accountable
That's because parents who have made mistakes but actually care are scared of having the kids taken so they cooperate. Social workers bully and grind down those parents. The actual nightmare parents? They just don't answer the door and tell social workers to sod off. Social workers are scared of them and leave well alone

In her victim impact statement, from the eyes of Brayden, she flat out said "idk why you NEVER LIKED ME" so it was apparent to her that the man she chose to stay with after he beat her kid once, that she chose to have a kid with and break a protective order for, she seen on a regular basis that her bf did not like her son, but yet SHE CHOSE TO STAY WITH HIM AND EVEN LEAVE HER SON WITH HIM, SHE IS JUST AS GUILTY AS HE IS, in my opinion, she should have been put in jail as well.
A real mother would never stay with someone who doesnt treat your existing children like their his own, and would especially NEVER stay with someone who has put hands on and beat your baby. That is not a real mother. That is a woman who puts her wants and needs before those of her own children. Probably only views her children as accessories.

How does a cop get charged and not the mother and dcf?!?! Not saying the cop didn't deserve the charges, she did, but so does the mother and DCF!!!!

"step grandfather" didn't care and made excuses for his child. He also mocked the murdered child and turned the whole tragedy into a circus. He's as disgusting as his child.

Ppl wonder why these parents fight to get kids back they don’t want should know it’s about welfare benefits, you get more food stamps with children , and a decent cash grant, if the child is deemed sick with health issues you get social security, so this all boils down to money.

IMO the mother, Kelsey, is responsible for what happened to her baby, Braden, every bit as much as Luke. I think they both should be charged with murder. A mother who would not protect her babies from boyfriends, or anyone, is despicable and should never have custody. And the “Child Protection Services” there was useless, as there was no “protection” at all. Even the detective was useless, as her only punishment for not protecting this child was to lose 5 days of vacation? No one protected Braden from the evil around him.

Detective Delaney's punishment ended up being a forfeiture of 5 days of vacation?! Unbelievable. CPS once again got off Scot-free not to mention Kelsey allowing Brayden to be alone with Luke.
