There is a serious issue going on with a girl my son goes to school with (I think he likes this young lady). I honestly don't know how we can help her because CPS and law enforcement have left her in the care of her abusers. Do y'all have any advice on how to help this young girl. She is 17. We can not take her in but I've looked into shelters but her abusive family moved her 3 hours away to her uncle in the middle of no where and he is much worse. She called my son after her uncle hit her and she could barely breathe or talk. Her uncle also said he would k*ll her if she messed anything up while he was gone. My son's freaking out and I've told her call 911 but she's afraid they won't do anything and that her uncle will harm her. I'm not sure how to legally help this girl. I don't want her to become an episode of a true crime podcast

“How do we end up with another dead baby?” Entitlement of adults. The idea that parents *own* their children, that children are property of either parents or the state. There are no laws in place that centre the *rights of the child* - the fact that this guy was able to PLEA BARGAIN his sentence to include the possibility of parole is testament to this lack of rights of children because in cases like this the sentence needs to be fixed. Life without the possibility of parole or death, end of story- let them choose between THOSE outcomes because that’s what they did to the child.

I was just researching the story about Olivia Gant, who at 7 years old was put ON HOSPICE because her mom convinced healthcare professionals to sign the papers that signed her daughter’s death warrant. This poor sweet girl STARVED for 19 days before she finally succumbed. Her mom only got 16 years in prison for intentionally tricking doctors and doctor shopping until her daughter was put on feeding tubes, given a colostomy bag, unnecessary surgeries, on “heroic doses of opiates that would kill” the 3 grown adults that were on discussing it during an interview. And all because her mom had munchausen by proxy. And honestly, if she hadn’t tried to start going down the same road with Olivia’s sister after Olivia was so brutally taken from this world (to starve to death while people who were supposed to care for her were always near and just wouldn’t feed her), she may have never been stopped.
It makes me insane. I look at these children and I just wanna save all of them and I’m broken that no one ever does 😢

@@rhanBoone thing I can't ever get over in that case is that Olivia asked for food until almost the very end yet this didn't alert any of the hospice staff. That is not normal in terminal cases. Requests for food dwindle yet they will and can still live for a bit, but they stop requesting food. Their bodies no longer crave food because their bodies are TRULY shutting down. Olivia kept asking for food until the near-end. Her body craved it which is not normal in end stage disease.
How could ANY experienced hospice nurse not be extremely concerned over that? Enough to look a little deeper into the circumstances? It just bothers me because appetite loss in terminal illness doesn't typically present that way.

Honestly, you'd be surprised. I basically grew up in a children's hospital - alongside many other children who were also fighting for their lives, limbs or both. While you'd expect some jealousy from siblings, children don't really know better, my mother told me as I grew up that it was astounding how many times she heard a complaining parent say to their partner, "What about me? What about my time?" Which, in a way is understandable, but to say that in some of the circumstances are unreal. Luckily, most of the time it doesn't lead to murder, but sometimes there is serious resentment towards the child. Jealousy over the attention the spouse or others are giving the child, resentment over what they are missing out on because of the child's illness/struggle, a mix, etc. It's sadly more common than you'd like to believe. Most of us in that situation as a kid have dealt with at least a little bit of it.
The majority of the time it just doesn't become extremely physical - and even then, it is usually a sibling not parent.

I live close enough to have received this AMBER alert. I watched my community searching, just incase he'd made his way west. I watched the news airing searches of the river. I remember thinking what a piece of shit that so-called father was and thinking how much he reminded me of a cousin by marriage of mine. Said cousin's wife actually left him because he was jealous she was paying attention to the baby. When he asked to talk to her alone and she agreed to leave the baby with his mother, he took her into the woods and pulled a firearm on her. It's crazy to me that people like this exist. Said cousin was also a good father in the beginning. I will never understand these people. Thankfully, the wife of the couple I'm speaking of made it out and he was checked into an institution for a bit and she took the baby and kept him away from her. But the case of Maddox was so eerie because I could easily have seen the same thing happen much closer to home. I've thought of Maddox often since her case happened. Such a shame when supposed-to-be-grown-men act like jealous, bratty children. RIP to yet another child taken by monsters. 😞

Maybe, but adults know how babies are made. If you don’t want a child….then don’t make one.
But more likely, some guys live in kind of a perpetual adolescence, where they can’t make the full transition to adulthood,..where it’s not terrible, but you have to sacrifice and realize that others, including the new child, is now the focus, not them. Some want to go back to their single 20-something life, but are too immature to face the stigma of just walking away from a family or the cost of divorce. It’s an incredibly selfish acts.

Sometimes you have to wonder just how exactly a grown man can become jealous of a small child, of course the woman is going to spend time and be affectionate, WHO WOULDNT!?!?

He could literally have walked away and had nothing to do with her if that's what he wanted. This is pure wickedness.

There is no possible way that man had ZERO signs that he would have hurt that baby. That's not how human behavior works.

That victim impact statement was one of the most emotional, gut wrenching things I've ever heard. Yet so powerful in a way, that he made Ryan sit there and have to listen to all of the beautiful moments he stole from Maddox(sp?) and her family. I cried through the whole thing. Her grandpa loved her dearly.
