    A Scottish follower here and I'll never forget the case of Baby Peter. He was so let down and his story stuck with me all these years. However, just like the multiple US cases you cover, this case changed nothing and countless kids have died torturous deaths since. I wish something could really change in our child welfare systems.

      I remember this case too, driving to Uni hearing yhr news and could not wrap my head around how this happened. Can not believe it’s 15 years.
      Everyone involved should 100% been sent to Prison. But like so many times before and after, the news reports it, nothing is done and nothing changes and so many kids are left to “fend” for themselves and somehow “survive” their…I don’t even want to say parents…but pieces of s*** that created them. I live and am unfortunately from the UK. The social services over here are a joke (not a funny one). There have been far too many babies and children who have been hurt/killed by those who are supposed to love and protect them the most. It's horrendous, even after Baby Peters death, there have still been many other babies and children who have suffered because social services don't do what they're supposed to do. They are very quick at interfering in families who don't need them by negligence or violence towards children, but those that do need the help always get pushed away or no action gets taken. It's disgusting and disturbing tbh. I've had friends who are great parents, but because a vicious neighbour decided to make a false claim, she very nearly had her kids taken away, but thankfully I was there to set them straight. 😡😡😡😡

    I don't care how abused someone was as a child. In fact this should be more of a reason for them NOT to abuse their own children. They know what they are doing is wrong, and if they had an ounce of humanity they would ask social services to take their children into care until they sort themselves out!

      This was my father's excuse for abusing me. He said that his father and brothers abused him and it made him a strong man, so he did the same to me. I will never forgive him for how he treated me.

    • @lolheytherejimmy
      @lolheytherejimmy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      in reality, children who were abused like this learn that this is normal and so they usually end up following the same abusive path in adulthood. it is sad, but if this is all they experience, and adults continue to tell and show them that this is normal by letting them go home to this abuse over and over and over again, it becomes hardwired in their brain. it is a terrible cycle that is, the majority of the time, only stopped with early intervention. restructuring the inner workings of an adult brain is possible, but is a lot more work and can take decades of in depth therapy. it requires empathetic and patient mental healthcare workers. CPS needs to include more in depth programs for parents to overcome past traumas to stop these cycles.

    • @samanthageach3146
      @samanthageach3146 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      I have ALWAYS said this. I was abused in multiple ways as a child and teenager. I couldn't fathom inflicting that kind of torment onto another soul. I think people who use their abuse and traumas as an excuse for bad behavior are the worst kind of predator or abuser because they know firsthand how it feels. You are straight up a terrible person if you want to put that pain and trauma onto another person. There is no acceptable reason to hurt someone who is innocent.

      @anastasiana5157 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Sadly this isnt the case for everyone. I am so happy you were able to see how bad that behavior was and you were able to vreak the cycle. For others that kind of self awareness comes later or even worse, never at all. Human behavior is a complex thing, add in psychological disorders and you have the perfect recipe for disaster. One day as Steven was getting high and watching Jeremy Kyle, he picked up Peter, placed him over his knee, and pushed down so hard on his back that he broke his spine. This was all witnessed by Jason's "girlfriend". She said that Peter was screaming and crying so loud that she had to go out back and cover her ears. CPS in general, whether it's in the USA or whether it's in the UK is a failure altogether. For the most part. I dealt with CPS for 4 years because of my granddaughter. She was in my care and at every single turn they tried to give her back to the neglective parent who was a drug addict and completely incapable of taking care of a child. At every turn they were trying to get my granddaughter back with their mother, even though the whole entire time she never stopped doing drugs. It only changed when she became homeless and she can completely stopped contacting CPS or her daughter. Then they had no choice but to give me guardianship. They even did a safety plan with her best friend who is a drug addict as the person that was supposed to monitor everything between the child and the mother. Are you kidding me? CPS is a failure. These are people that have a job to get a check. They don't give a crap about these kids. Not really.

    Our judicial system(UK) is an absolute bloody joke! They all should have got life imprisonment, they are all evil monsters. It breaks my heart to know that little boy suffered so much and his mother just stood by and didn’t even care. She is so full of sh*t saying she didn’t know, how can you not know? Living in the same house seeing your child everyday and hearing his cries and screams. I hope they all rot in hell and face the same as what they put little Peter through.

Something HAS to change. More children should not have to die in order to make a change! Rest in peace, Peter. Your life should have mattered more than this.

    I was a Child Protection social worker during this time, we were absolutely devastated by poor baby Peter's death. We were also angry that he was failed so badly by virtually every person and agency. If we saw a child smeared with chocolate we would absolutely make sure the child's face was cleaned. Under Child protection rules, children are to be seen, at home (or school if older) at least fortnightly. It honestly seems unimaginable that these children weren't removed long before Peter's death, the Council I work for would definitely have started court proceedings. And I worked for an inner City Council, with large pockets of deprivation and crime, it's true that social worker's cases numbers are ridiculously high, and that's part of the reason I left, but even so, this poor little boy was failed. Utterly failed.

      This is not necessarily the answer. If we start charging people social services will begin removing children for sprained fingers. Because why would anyone risk jail time when they can just as easily remove the child on the small chance that it "might" have been caused by something other than an accident. As it is good families are being ripped apart regularly by the state for what is oftentimes ridiculous reasons. I don't know how CPS manages so often to leave children in deplorable conditions while other people lose their kids for a pile of dirty laundry or leaving an abusive relationship.

    Never mind how ridiculously short their sentences were, when you’ve done such horrific things you should NOT be able to change your name and start a brand new life. You should have to stick with the name that you were given when you did those terrible things so people can know to stay away from you. Just because you have served your time does not mean that you’re not going to reoffend. I really only think this way about people who hurt minors and stalkers/rapists/serial killers/repeat offenders in general. I think people can turn their lives around, but they should not be allowed to pretend that they are a new person

    You don't even have to like kids to realize how sick this is. I cannot stand kids unless they're my nieces and nephews as bullying and my being autistic have made it hard for me to understand my peers as I grew up and kids as an adult now.
    BUT THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!
    Every single kid deserves a safe and loving enviroment. EVERY SINGLE ONE
    What happened to Peter is shameful. The people who had so many chances to save him should have been charged with manslaughter or at least as accomplices. There were so many warningsigns and everyone fucking failed this little boy.
    I hope wherever he is in the afterlife, he's enjoying the best of food and sweets, every toy he could possibly want and feeling all the love he should have gotten.
    As a child that social services messed up with, my heart breaks for every child who is in the same or worse situation I was in as a kid, wondering when someone is gonna help them.
    Rest In Peace, Peter.

    There was a social service agency, Bradford, that worked with a toddler.named Star Hobson and ended up losing their independent status and was taken over because they failed so badly. Shortly before her death a little boy named Arthur Labinjo-Hughes was murdered and was in the same area.
    The story of Peter was just horrific. How the supervisors could intimidate the case worker to not do her job and wanted it swept under the rug before this toddler died is criminal.
    And the fact that these people who tortured and murdered Peter barely had to face punishment. Terrible

And then when the house is in a horrid state, why does CPS simply move Tracy and the kids to a brand-new home (rather than let her learn to potentially get her own act together)? Your channel is uniquely thorough in exploring the legacy of CA that parents inflict on children in the cases you cover. Solid compassionate journalism. The healthcare community has improved screening procedures for women at risk of post-partum mental health issues; your insights on risks of parents who've been abused to repeat that pattern suggest a public health need to screen pregnant women and their SO's for history of CA prior to or immediately after birth, to proactively flag the case, require parents to have counseling on their own risk of becoming criminals in their treatment of their own child, and flag for monitoring by CA specialists from social services and public health nursing agencies. The detailed research you do and type of advocacy you provide and voice you give to children whose lives have been taken should precipitate a movement in healthcare systems to identify parents with a profile suggesting risk for inflicting same patterns of harm onto their own children.
    Great Respect for the work you guys do and the mission of your work.

    The recommendation of parenting classes is often for naught, it's not that they don't KNOW what they are doing is wrong, it's just that they can't be bothered to do better. Now and then some might benefit so the classes are not totally useless, but the parents have to truthfully want to do better or the classes accomplish nothing. Even if they had really crappy childhoods themselves, they nearly always DO know right from wrong and choose wrong or choose drugs ,alcohol or sexual partners over their kids welfare. For instance, anyone in their right mind KNOWS that a kid has to eat, and fairly regularly, and reasonably nutritious food, not just a few fries, some soda and a chicken nugget or two now and then and yet they starve them for days on end.

      Parenting classes are a joke. At least in my experience. I had a drug issue in the past and unfortunately had cps involved and my daughter placed with a family member until I was able to jump through the necessary hoops to get her back… here in Montana there is actually ALOT of things you have to do but the parenting class was a joke. It was just a work book you would answer questions out of and then read your answers out loud.. it was strange. A lot of things cps had me do I learned a lot and was able to take something away from it but the “parenting class” was strange.

    This mother and her boyfriend are worse than animals. The agency that failed Peter should be closed if it hasn't already. And how stupid of the doctors to believe everything is fine when abuse was evident. Tracy should also be mandated to be sterilized so she can never have another child. She should also not be allowed to own another animal; I'm sure they suffered too. What needed to happen in Peter's case was for doctors to call the police and not look the other way. I weep for Peter. Oh, how this precious child suffered! I'm sorry for your pain and suffering. I'm sorry you were let down by so many people, but mostly by your own mother. But now you are in Heaven, where there is no more suffering, where your Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus, embrace you in their loving arms. Sleep in heavenly peace.

    I didn't realise the case when I clicked it, but as soon as I heard the kids name, I knew. I was fixated on this case when I heard of it and I remember following it in the newspapers. I think it was one of the first cases I really followed, and I was shocked at the illustrations in the paper trying to show what injuries he had and how anything like that could be done to a real human being, let alone one so tiny and innocent. Can't believe it was so long ago...I still think of him so often..

    I watch a lot of these true crime videos. The ones that involve innocent children, always severely get to me. This one in particular, had me crying from the beginning to the end. That poor sweet baby boy! 😢 His abusers did not receive the proper punishment, for their horrific actions!! But, they will, the day they meet their maker! Rest In Peace Little Man 💙🙏 No one can hurt you any longer!!! ♥️🙏♥️

    The most scary part is that 2 people wanted to help and they were silence. Makes you wonder how many children have died at the hands of neglect of not only the family but the system that is supposed to protect the future 😢 and more baffling this happens so often all around the world in very "modern" countries.

    It completely breaks my heart and I sometimes cry seeing Yergy cry at some of these stories, your strength does not go unnoticed and appreciated, as a member of your channel (thank you so much for the postcard and membership letter, it was so lovely and thoughtful) I am completely thankful and appreciate all that you both do ❤❤❤

    I feel so sorry for the social workers in this case who weren’t listened to by their superiors. As the daughter of a retired social worker, I know that will have destroyed their lives 💔 they really really tried but they were brushed off and bullied. Disgusting. There is something wrong with the UK care system and especially the justice system. Rest sweet baby Peter 🕯️

    The amount of social service stories I’ve heard where they took away kids when it wasn’t necessary or they don’t take the kids at all when it IS necessary. What’s the point of even having this career field? It’s so backwards!!

    I was in prison with this vile sorry excuse for a human back in 08. And I just thought I would let anyone who may be interested know that although she didn’t really get the punishment she deserved as she should have been given a full life sentence. I can promise you that we all made sure that her life in there was hell.
    I remember the night that she got to the prison. (Which was HMP Low Newton in Durham) the way it’s set up there, when you first get brought in you go to what is called the induction wing. It’s a separate section of the prison that is next to the main prison. You stay on there for a week before being moved to the main prison. And when she was put on induction wing the whole jail basically erupted. The main wings of the prison are C & D wing and when we heard she was in the induction wing all the girls were shouting out the windows to induction wing things like. See you soon B**** we can’t wait to meet you. Basically just letting her we all knew she was here and that she probably isn’t gonna enjoy her time in here.
    After her week on induction she obviously wasn’t put with us on C&D wing as the governor and PO’s knew she couldn’t make it the night if she was. So they put her on what was known as the pedo wing or the snitches wing which was A wing.
    But even though she wasn’t on C&D wing we were still able to get to her many a times.
    Some of the PO’s even, how can I put this. Accidentally made a few mistakes when taking her from one part of the jail to another and so ended up passing a load of us so we were able to jump her. And throw boiling sugar water on her.
    I won’t go in to much more as otherwise this comment could be an essay long with the amount of things I could say but I just basically wanted to let people know that we all made sure that because the justice system and CS and all the social workers let down baby Peter (though at the time we only knew him as baby P back then) that she got what was coming to her. Her food was constantly messed with as we all worked in different areas or the prisons so made sure to work together to make her life hell as much as we could while we were there. So yeah some of us messed with her food others who worked in the cleaning section would mess her room up pour things on her bed and clothing etc
    And she got jumped a few times.
    I just can’t believe she is now out and free after what she did She kept trying to say it wasn’t her fault but that just angered us all even more.
    She honestly is just a vile disgusting monster who should still be locked up today.
    R.I.P Baby Peter you will never be forgotten. 😢💖

      @@Kap3lka 🙂 thank you.
      We just wanted to make sure baby Peter got the justice he deserved seen as he was let down by so many. An IT didn’t get the punishment IT deserved. So we just felt like we had to make sure the monster got what IT deserved.
      A lot of the girls were mothers themselves as were the prison guards/officers (I wasn’t at the time but I now have a little 6yr old boy) so they were even more angry being mothers themselves. But obviously you don’t have to be a parent to hate a monster that could do this to any child let alone their frigging own.

      @@suesmith3744 Thanks, we all cared more about Baby Peter, than she did and we had never even met his sweet face. But we just wanted to try and give him a little bit of justice Sen as he has been let down by literally everyone in his life and after.
      And to do what everyone that knows about this case wished they could do themselves if they had the chance. As cause we did we made sure to take every single opportunity.
      I can still see ITS pathetic face pleading with us to stop and that she was sorry bla, bla, bla. That just annoyed us more.
      We literally said, ‘Did you stop when peters CRIED & BEGGED you, his sorry excuse of a mother to stop? Yeah didn’t think soo B****, & just so you know, some of us have nothing to lose!!!
      I wanna say can you believe IT actually had the Gaul to cry an beg us to stop, but that’s just how much of a coward these evil monsters are. Big enough to hurt an innocent child yet not big enough to take a beating themselves.
      Sorry this case just still gets me ‘passionate’ to this day.

    Social servoces in the UK is terrible, all we hear about are social workers with large caseloads and services that dont seem to link up with each other when a child/ children are in danger whether at the hands of those who were supposed to care for them or even those who ended up in the children homes. Haringey social services is one of those with the worst reputations, you mentioned Victoria Climbie that case was beyond brutal infact the case is used along with othet similar cases when nursing students are being taught about safeguarding children laws in the U.K. universities. The social work course is bursary funded yet they complain of having not enough of them hence the huge caseloads. Baby 'P' as he was known as seemed to like Victoria Climbie and other children like them managed to fall through the cracks and despite changes in law ie letting every service share medical recotds etc it still happens. Tracy his mother was in all of the newspapers during and after the case lauded as Britain's worst mother. With the new identity after release from prison just like James Bulgar's 10 year old killers she was identified and still manages to make headlines for the horrid company she seems to atract. It is such a pity these children are let down in this way and have to painfully pay with their lives.
