    Making sure people also know that after you open the driver door in this mode, if you “press & hold” the driver unlock switch on the driver door handle, it will unlock ALL doors.

      Thanks that's good to know; But now I don't like the idea of the other passengers being able to open the door part of it as someone could be hiding and just waiting for you to get close and they would be able to get into your car before you do if they had bad intentions.

    Great tutorial, thanks. I didn't know about the behavior described at 1:55, where another passenger can unlock his or her door if they do so before the driver's door is opened. That would seem to defeat the purpose of this Driver Door Unlock Mode as a security feature! For those who have the feature enabled but want to unlock all doors, I've found that telling Siri "Unlock my car" twice in a row accomplishes this, much like the double click of the lock button on a traditional key fob-- although it takes a few seconds for each command. So perhaps this would be useful if done in advance when approaching your car with other passengers, in a safe area where you feel comfortable unlocking when you're still a few steps away.

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is my guess on Tesla's logic behind opening passenger doors first, then the drivers door if you want to unlock all at once. If some bad guy is hiding on the other side of the car, they are not going to know that opening their door before you get their is how to do it. They will want to wait until you open your door to make sure they are able to get in and rob you. Well with that mindset, we know that the passenger side will still be locked. By the time he realizes this, he's either running, or you have plenty of time to lock your door or even zoom away from the situation.

    great video! but what a bad design, imho ... getting out after a drive then trying to get into the rear door involves going back into the car to unlock the rear door. I miss the little physical unlock buttons from other cars. sure this works but it's just not that efficient. At least put a button on the inside of the driver door. Why can't I push my door open button on the inside of the driver door a 2nd time? Wouldn't this work? This is probably my least favorite thing on my Tesla.

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought about this more, and I think the design works. Ex. The bad guy is assuming your doors are locked, so he/she is going to wait until you open your door or hears the doors unlock (which we know is silent in our Tesla's), before opening their door. Once you open your door, bad guy is locked out. The only way this doesn't work is if the bad guy has a Tesla (why would you rob someone then?) or knows how this feature works. And seeing how many people are still getting caught vandalizing or door dinging Tesla's, that's a low percentage.
      I like your train of thought though. Definitely valid and a possibility.

      That said, the whole sneak into the car isn't very common. It's mostly break into the unoccupied car, or carjack the person at the driver door.

      Haha, welcome to an EV. The car is actually always on (for the most part). So it's not actually "turning on" like you're describing. It's really just activating for you. Only thing you can turn off is climate, which you should do before you leave the car. Your profile saves your last settings. So if you leave the car with heat on, it'll turn off when the car locks, and then turn on when the car unlocks. It's made this way for convenience.

      I've been doing this a while :D. Have video out there for both your questions. The UI is probably a bit different since they are older, but the info should still be good or at least guide you in the right direction.

    The fact that there needs to be a tutorial on how to unlock and lock this car is the most frustrating and ridiculous thing ever overcomplicated tech that keeps changing is going to be the issue with cars going forward This is just the start

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is just an optional feature. If you don't want to use it, the car opens like any other car.

    Does it electronically unlock it from the inside or does it unlock it using the latch method where it may damage the weather strip?

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  ปีที่แล้ว

      It unlocks the car normally. No damage to the weather stripping.

    The app only unlocking the driver door makes no sense to me. If I'm using the app to unlock the car it's always to let someone else into the car, and they aren't the driver. The app should definitely default to unlocking all doors still. Also, my problem is the opposite. Even without this feature enabled it does not unlock the passenger door when I approach the car sometimes, leaving me having to hit the screen button to let people in.

      I think that may be a bug. Others have mentioned that same thing on this video recently. Hope Tesla fixes it ASAP.

    To only have the drivers door open is not an option if it resets after being turned off or the other doors are able to be opened then the car relocks itself, I'll sacrifice any potental security threat, just tell me how to keep the feature turned off permanently. Why? Because you are no longer able to approach the rear of the car (with say a grocery cart load) and be able to get the hatch open unless you tap "open" on the screen in the car or fumble around to open it with the app on your phone. Imagine dealing with such a situation in bad weather. Please Tesla, simply give me an actual on or off option of only having just the drivers door open or not

    Ever since I enabled the Driver Door Unlock Mode feature, my walk away lock feature doesn't activate even if the Walk-Away Door lock feature is enabled on the main screen. I normally keep my spare Key card in my glove box but it's never been an issue. Any ideas?

    • @nukem384
      @nukem384  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm...that's weird. Just to eliminate that issue, I would try and take the key card.
      Make sure your app is location set to always. If that doesn't work, try re-installing the mobile app and see if that helps. If not, I would contact Tesla. That sounds like a bug if none of these things fix it.

    More ridiculous unnecessary tech that makes zero sense. Key fob staying in your pocket and just pull the handle is common sense.
