    For anyone doing this job and being aware of what James says at 25:54, alittle tip is to cut a piece of cardboard the same with and height as the radiator face and then use string to attach it to the radiator, this gives you a soft protection face to avoid you accidentally bend any fins etc.👍🏽

    Job is the same for most VAG cars, front end comes off with the rad in. Swap it over with new and bolt it back in as an assembly.

  • @JamesAllen300
    @JamesAllen300 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    James, It's called the core support!! Most cars are done this way now because of how they are put together in the factory. If I have to pull an engine, I always try to take the front of the car off, swing the rads etc out of the way and drag the engine, gearbox, subframe and all the suspension out as one unit. It saves a lot of time and ball ache later on believe me.
    Also check that the bottom corner of the condenser rad hasn't got a leak as that wet patch could be coming from there and not the old rad. The soapy water test is a good way to see if it has a leak.

    The radiator is not after market because Euro car parts sell brand new stuff and I would advise you to remover the wheel liner completely out. because it will give you much better access to the bolts you was 1/2 way there because when i do some thing it only takes a few of minuets to completely remove the completely remove the hole inner wheel liner.

    I second MaddoxGaming as most VAG cars have what is called the Service Position for the front end assembly. There are ball ended threaded rods available that screw into one of the crash bar bolt holes that allow the whole bumper unit to slight forward on them pretty much complete to allow the necessary access to the fan unit, radiator, intercooler (turbo engines) and AC condenser. James undid quite a bit more than he needed to but the end result was the same, just taking him a bit longer I would say. It did give those who didn't know a full overview of how everything fit s together however.

    Nice job...
    I should have thought of the possibility of the oil drip on the driveshaft seal being a bit of left over oil from filling the gearbox. I probably would have if I'd done the job. At least it's all clear now and looking very good. Pulling a gearbox apart is not something to tackle lightly so you should be really happy with your achievement with the Skoda box...
    I hope you remembered to switch the heater to full hot and put the blower fan on while you were filling the coolant and running the car up to temperature to check...

      German engineering is over rated crap. I had an E46 M3..possibly one of the worst designed cars in history. They have the weakest bodyshells on earth, literally tearing themselves to pieces. Stupid torx fasteners everywhere that seize and shear, stupid ergonomics etc etc. I alsoi have an R53 mini cooper as a weekend toy (another BMW)...same story...the germans over engineer things that should be simple...cup holders, brake dust sheilds etc, and under engineer critical parts..rear axle carrier panel in the M3 for instance. The days of German quality engineering ended after the fall of the third reich.
