what has me going is the fact that when you start a job like this, it's you just gotta undo this bolt to get to this bolt to undo this bolt.......never ending list of undoing bolts just to get to one important part that need replacing, no wonder these jobs cost so much and how u manage to remember what goes where when its time to put everything back together has me in awe of how u manage to do this and you make everything look so damn easy! fair play to you mate, you have come on leaps and strides with these videos which are edited so beautifully, u really are my fav youtube garage channel. this content is great. keep it up man :)

I tackled the Insignia DMF, clutch and slave cylinder a couple of weeks ago. The box was just as heavy, maybe more - but it was not a job that I would again lightly. I had the exact same problem (I also have a MK4 Mondeo as well - the same as you, but luckily no clutch issues on that).
I only lowered the left side of the sub-frame down partially and rested the box on it, enough room to get the job done. Otherwise, I'd have to get it on my chest and onto the floor, which even for me isn't an easy job. Yep - I also did it on the driveway. Hats off to you for taking on such a brutal job in this... British weather! Also, I had to fight with the dreaded "flywheel spin" where the bolts were inaccessible without an angle-grinder. Yeah, it was a fun job,
Remember not to dry-bleed the slave cylinder as it can lead to premature failure. Prime it instead.

  • @WheelzonWheels
    @WheelzonWheels 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I believe that block on the subframe you pointed out is a counter weight for vibration damping. I think it's something to do with one side's driveshaft being longer/heavier than the other, so that weight counters that

Can I just say, I have a Ford C Max and have only just started out repairing my own car due to costly errors by experienced mechanics. Using tutorials in a "STEP BY STEP" like manner, is what allowed me to rebuild the entire front suspension which was challenging but so rewarding in many ways. It's hard to find videos like yours on clutch work, so if you please,... the more intricate, "STEP BY STEP... Bolt by Bolt with good lighting and good angles" the better. Hell, your videos are better than the notorious Haynes Manuals. Keep up the good work. Well Done!

When you fit your new pressure plate there is a procedure to be aware of it is the self adjusting type.
The three little springs will be fully compressed on the new pressure plate and need to still be fully compressed once the new plate is tightened down.
If you trigger those springs when you fit the pressure plate the clutch won't work properly.
There is a £400 fancy tool to do the job, you can make your own for about a tenner. If your Haynes manual for a Mondeo is as useless as my Volvo Haynes manual this won't be explained very well.
The other way is to fit the pressure plate and tighten the bolts very gradually and evenly keeping a close eye on the three springs to make sure they haven't moved.
Alan Howatt has a good channel, well worth watching.
To save a lot of sweating when you refit the gearbox you can cut some bits of M10 studding about 100mm long and screw them into the engine, then slide the gearbox on over them, makes life a lot easier.
I'm sure you already know, but that steering rack pinch bolt inside the car is a one use item. Keep on keepin' on!

Great video once again, straight forward and informative, sounds like a ridiculous tip, but invest in some foam interlocking tiles to place around the car while you're working, so much more comfy to lay on while you work... One of my pet hates is the aches and pains from crawling round under a car, dunno how you always do this in shorts with the patch of gravel next to you 😂👌

Great progress! I posted on other video suspecting the dmf would be failing too as most do.. they fail before the clutch!

The DMF wobbling around would have smashed the clutch into the slave cylinder that’s why it went, it was the DMF to start with that was the problem, I had the same on a diesel vectra

If the flywheel was that bad it was knocking the clutch into the slave would of been knocking its tits off 🤣 do you know how far away the clutch sits from the bearing with our foot on clutch ? 🤣 with foot on clutch the play would come out of flywheel with it being pressed , hence you won’t hear a flywheel knock when the clutch is pressed down

Good job, done on my car on driveway. Like your idea of motorbike jacket to lower gearbox. Think I will be getting one. When putting pipe into slave coy make sure the seal is still on it. When I did it was in old slave,
