I broke a clutch just like in the video because you didn't use a degreasing system, adjust the pressure plate. HOW YOU MOUNTED IS WRONG, I DID AS YOU WERE AND I BROKE NEW CLUTCH IT ONLY WORKED FOR 20,000 KM, NOW I NEED A NEW ONE
Absolutely top work sir. Well impressive, you voice over is calm, methodical and contextual. Keep being you when you're chatting away, it's re-assuring to a viewer what you're explaining and why. Maybe a little division into chapters would help those of us not as brave as yourself so we can divide and conquer into weather dependent chunks with the parts / tools / and time you needed / faced during your efforts. There's plenty of us enjoying your thought process ;-)
Massive .. I thought I was the only one to do radicicolous jobs on the drive ...but you've gone one step further and filmed each step of the way ,,brilliant I doff my cap to you ...well done .. you never failed to let others see your failings and overcome them .. catch you later ..😉
James you tease. What a star. All that work on your drive and giving us a lot of information as well, unlike other TH-camrs who cut and skip to end and show nothing. Keep going. Don't stop. Stay safe.
What a cliffhanger!!! Superb video and channel. Took me an hour to refit my gearbox too, that was after watching another guy on TH-cam do it in 60 seconds.
Best think about his channel is that it for everyone , not your high end cars people having 600hp cars , it normal day to day cars repairs and content - keep up the good work james it getting better each time
Just a tip to make the gearbox fit easier. Place a couple lengths of threaded rod into the engine gear box bolt holes and use these to slide the gearbox into position then once you’ve got a couple bolts in then replace the threaded rod with the remaining bolts. Saves a lot of aggro.
James, I could've done with that scissor lift when I changed the clutch on a 2007 VW Beetle. I ended up borrowing an engine crane form my local garage. Mating the gearbox to the engine was like docking with the ISS. Fortunately, I didn't have a subframe to contend with unlike the MK4 Golf on which the Beetle is based.
You absolute horror i was looking forward to you firing it up and testing the clutch. I know it will be fine but i have to wait now. Fantastic video all the best my friend.
Aaaaaaah the suspence is killing me lol 🤪👍 Since watching your videos I have suddenly become addicted to buying tools and working on my own car, Oil change for my motor next week 😊
James , you do all these big jobs on your drive with jackstands and bricks , imagine what you could do in your own fully equipped garage , big congrats on a job well done
Great video! Kudos to getting it done on the drive. I especially like your gearbox lift tool. Another clutch change channel is "Kevin-Albert Williams". I've nicknamed him "The Clutch Ninja" did to his work gear.
I bet you were sore after all your efforts For anybody who has done subframe and gearbox removal on a driveway will appreciate how difficult it is. Top job mate. Loved the bricks I use timber blocks. Improvisation is the key lol .Great channel love the variety . 👍
Well done that man, you will I'm sure inspire others to have a go fixing there cars , not me i hasten to add I'm a 66 year old with a knackered back, once again well done, look forward to the conclusion, 😁👍
Great video james. Getting a gearbox in on your own on your back is one of the worst jobs iv done so far, took me 2 hours in a freezing cold cramped lock up lol when it eventually slotted in I was a happy man. Looking forward to next one dude :)
The reason why your slave cylinder failed is due to the center of the DMF has sunk in over the middel, and there for the travel for the slave cylinder was to long and there for is leaking. Great job .. Have a nice easter from Denmark
I need your help, I am attempting this job next week on my driveway as well, could you please tell me what torque to use at 29:44 as I am not sure what bolts this driveshaft bearing bracket falls under. Thank you!
I came across your channel recently and loving it, I'm working my way through your videos slowly, not a mechanic but finding them very interesting to watch. My wife's Mk4 59 plate Mondeo is overheating, any Mondeo experts on here 🤔 keep up the great videos 😁
Another great video not an easy job on a driveway at all James, hope it all pays off for you just been offered one myself with bad flywheel am sat watching these thinking do I or not 😂 great content keep it up
That was a great job and awesome video. Friendly advice: Try not to spray dual mass flywheel with brake cleaner, because brake cleaner can get inside dmf and melt away grease that is inside the dmf. Instead, just spray some break cleaner on a rag and clean dmf with that. Looking forward for the next video.
Ive wrestled with gearboxes dangled on the end of engine hoists and it can be murder trying to do it and twist it round. I like the idea of using the motorcycle lift using a rachet....thats the way to go.
Great to see you work on the mk4 mondeo James be great to see a power steering flush on this 👍 , have watched all your videos and subscribed too. Keep up the great content 👏
Great job! Little tip...Mark each nut/bolt with a bit of tipex when you’ve torqued them up so can easily spot any you may have missed.
James, you’re becoming a very effective how-to instructor. Very well done.

Unbelievable work. Credit to you for doing all that work on your driveway.

Great video tutorial, you're making it look easy, step by step !
Ain't that a good feeling when you get that first bolt in well done to you
Part 2* loving these big job videos makes me wanna get out there and work on my project
'Getriebe' means gearbox in German language, so getriebeseite is: gearbox side. ( thanks from a Dutch viewer for another great video!)
I learned something new today. thanks
I was about to comment the same thing, it's written on the clutch disk itself just in a different language.
@@RetroBoy94 yes it is right, getriebeseite=gearbox side. greatings from germany. ;-)
ALL WITHOUT A PROPER WORKSHOP, fair play to you, well done, keep up the good work
You deserve an awful lot of credit for taking on a very big and complex job. Well done.
Top tip...use the old seal the opposite way to help drive the new seal in.
Absolutely outstanding. Real life working at home on the driveway in all weathers.
Monster of a job to carry out on your drive - and solo whilst filming - mega kudos!!!
Great stuff James your calm teaching style is very easy to follow along with 🤞
What a positive channel and comments section you should be proud.
Good to see you back James 👊🏻

The best DIY mechanic channel 👍
Brilliant job fair play. Hat off to you doing all that on your own and on the drive way. 👏 👏 👏 👏.
Someone’s been watching Allan do clutch’s on the taxis , this subframe alignment pins 👌🏻
Splendid job James, even through the video I could tell it took a heck of a lot of time to get that car back together. Appreciate the content !
Whoop whoop! Been like a kid at Christmas waiting for this 😂 well done dude, cant wait for the next one. 👍🏻
Top notch video, and very thought through. Must be so satisfiying doing it all yourself., very inforfative aswell.
Inspiration to myself for wanting to work on my own car, save a lot of money, but gain a lot of knowledge, good on you, keep it going 👌
I'd work on my car if I had the space. Shame really.
Very well explained and put together. It's very satisfying doing it yourself.
Great job, so much work involved glad I got the garage to do mine

Yet another informative no nonsense video. Great work mate, keep it coming! 👍

Great Video James 👍👍 Great to see that much detail...
Great video! Kudos to getting it done on the drive. I especially like your gearbox lift tool.
Another clutch change channel is "Kevin-Albert Williams". I've nicknamed him "The Clutch Ninja" did to his work gear.
Great video. When refilling the power steering use green green fluid.
I'm doing the gearbox on a polo and I've bought that motorcycle jack/stand as it looks perfect for enough clearance to pull the gearbox out.
Just one tip. If you put a bit of grease on the gearbox shaft it's easier to assembly 👍
Great video James love all the detail looking forward to the next one
Great job m8 . I got a mark 4 just before you started posting on this one . Might b doing the clutch over the summer and this will realy help.

Get yourself some garage floor mats from that motoring store that begins with an H. A lot more comfortable, and warmer, than lying on cold concrete.
Nice work love the break down and honesty about the shit bits look forward to starting her up and new discs 😂
